"Beautiful house and grounds and the farm is aot of fun for kids"
Absolutely love Temple Newsam. Not only is there play parks, GoApe, animals, restaurants and toilets, that are kept clean, there’s acres up on acres of walking trails teaming with wildlife and beautiful scenery. You can stick to designated paths or go off the trail into the deep woodland or into open field. Everywhere you go you’re surrounded by wildlife and beautiful trees/flowers. There’s some great berry bushes and lots of them if you want to go picking when the right season comes around. The lakes are beautiful and there’s plenty of space for picnics, ball games and bike riding. Wether it’s a paid day out, visiting the farm and the house, or you’d like something inexpensive to do alone or with the family Tempsy is the one. The whole of Temple Newsam is immaculate and litter free with plenty of bins around to contribute to keeping nature thriving and the area beautifully maintained. There’s plenty of free parking so you done have to actually go to the manned parking area at all. For those who like golf there’s also golf courses available and also a running track for those who like to keep up on their fitness. The running track is great as you can take your whole family round, with a pushchair, and at a steady pace, or you can jog your way around with everyone polite and friendly who is using the track at the same time. Temple Newsam is full of fun thing to do all year round, wether going it alone or having a family/friends day out in groups.
Went for Slam Dunk festival had great time. Really interesting looking house that if we'd been staying in area longer would of liked to visit. Festival site and grounds of house had quite a slope in places but was pretty uniform in wether flat or slope so no sudden bumps or dips in ground. Saw several people using wheelchairs and they seemed to be able to get where they needed to go easy enough - some slopes were quite an incline so for manual wheelchairs you'd probably want someone with you Incase you need a push. Slam dunk was great although there assessable platform filled up mid day so we ended up sitting on grass, and queues for disabled loos were long. Which of it's space you need not so much of issue but if urge and warning time was factor you'd be in trouble. Security etc were all lovely and festival goers were some of the most aware of people's needs of anywhere I've gone. 5s stars for punters and bands in term of care they showed for each other. Queuing for anything was issue and glad we had snacks in car because queues for merch and food were long and apart from bar no fast queue for those with disability. Same with entrance and exit, but again the people in audience were really catering of each other so felt safe even though leaving at same time as lots of people.
Sadly this is a rarely disappointing review of a place visited. This is a hugely disappointing attraction to visit left me really short changed as there is a huge potential to this place. The reason is the poor customer service from the staff at the place who seem more interested in passing responsibility to other departments within the City Council for the advertising of the place rather than offering an apology. Sadly won't be visiting this place again due to the poor experience. Everything seemed a battle with this place in terms of turning up on time for the House Tour getting locked out and then staff realising I was there and then got on the tour late missing aspects of it. The house tour once on it was excellent and was well delivered and thoroughly with some interesting facts and there are some beautiful items and paintings to see. The house on the outside is stunning to look with some wonderful architecture on show. The gardens are very pretty and there are some Lakeside walks to enjoy with some views on show. The parkland is stunning and beautiful with lovely walks to enjoy and nice views of the surrounding area. There is a home farm housing some rare breeds. Overall a disappointing day out despite the huge potential the place has.
Temple Newsam Gardens is a great place to visit for a day out. The gardens are beautiful, the atmosphere is peaceful, and there are plenty of things to see and do. Whether you're interested in history, nature, or just want to relax and enjoy the outdoors, Temple Newsam Gardens is the perfect place for you. Here are some additional details about Temple Newsam Gardens: Admission is free to the gardens The gardens are open from 10am to 4:30pm, Tuesday to Sunday. There is a cafe on site, as well as a number of picnic areas. Temple Newsam Gardens is located just a short drive from Leeds city center. I would highly recommend Temple Newsam Gardens to anyone looking for a beautiful and relaxing day out.

Beautiful house and grounds and the farm is aot of fun for kids. It's mostly tarmaced and aside from a few hills it's easily accessible. The gardens are nice but tougher to access. Only downsides are the cafe which is expensive and chaotic and you will be left to queue for a long time. I'm glad I had a bottle opener on my keyring as the server didn't have hers to open the coke we bought. The house tour was informative and does a good job of getting you interested and photography is allowed (no flashes thou) however, all the chairs on display weren't to be sat on and the 45 min tour left my nan a little tired, especially with the climb up several stairs and down again Overall, great place to visit as it's free to get in and the grounds are fantastic, just being your own food and drink
I grew up just down the road from here and it was a regular childhood haunt. I absolutely loved this place, and some 40 years later I still love it. Its a great day out, with something for everyone. The house is stunning with so much history and heritage, the farm is great for kids and adults alike. And you can't beat a lakeside picnic in good weather. There are often events for families and little ones, during the school holidays. All great fun, and reasonably priced or free. Today I visited and did the Halloween cellar tour. The guide was brilliant (all the staff are great actually). He was friendly, knowledgeable and engaging. Again, great fun. Highly recommend

Great family day out. Lots to do..lovely grounds and garden walks . An animal farm ,play area, cafe , toilets and the main house . We went round the house... you get discount for using your breeze and Leeds card. It was great fun exploring the house.. we had the audio tape which was really interesting (no extra charge) we also had a treasure map to find items in different parts of the house. Really friendly and helpful staff in the house and shop. Great for any budget.. free to walk round the grounds..walk your dog.. take your kids and bikes . Free play ground areas with swings and other play items. A fee to enter the house or animal farm . Food and drinks available in the cafe. Toilet facilities and a souvenir shop. We had a super day.
A great place for children & big kids!! A wonderful nature trail, a beautiful lake, and a garden lover’s paradise. A stunning walled garden with a breathtaking glass house. The geraniums & rare breeds of flowers growing inside simply take your breath away. A small clean farm and playground to keep the children busy. A lovely tea room with delicious home made food. The house must be seen from inside. My grandson loved to explore the grand staircase and the dressing up play rooms. My favourite floor was the first floor grand master bedroom with its rich decor and drapings. Something for everyone to enjoy. A must visit. An absolute great value for money.

As an animal lover, I had to check out one of the largest rare breed centres in Europe. Home Farm is much bigger than I anticipated and is filled with a variety of different animals. You will definitely run into some breeds you've never seen before. In addition to getting to know the rare breeds, there are various opportunities to expand your knowledge of different aspects of historical farm life. This was an interactive, educational, and overall really fun experience. I would definitely recommend setting aside 3-5 hours of your day to fully immerse yourself in the Home Farm setting. Grab some tea and delicious vegan chilli at the Tea Room before departing, you won't regret it!
We visited the Temple Newsam Farm over a week ago which was certainly good value considering the £4.30 admission cost and was also free for those aged under 4. They have the typical Farm animals, a moderate piece of history, a play area [swings/slides] for young children and the opportunity to sit on a tractor. The farm area was quite significant so I would recommend for families with young children, it was also nice walking around the immediate grounds of the Temple Newsam House. Whilst we did not enter the House on this occasion, I’m sure a view of the Tudor period would be of interest.

Had a great time the house is absolutely stunning. The children had a torch. All the way round there were things for them to find including fairytale. There we're games and dressing up that even this grown up enjoyed. The staff we're excellent and full of knowledge. Loved the whole experience. The grounds are stunning gardens ect. The farm is wonderful for the young and old a like. Lots to interact with while being educated on how things used to be done. The animals are great and lots let you stroke them. The playground is good too all in all thankyou for a lovely day we will be back.

Incredible manor house which whilst looking slightly ugly on the outside is utterly stunning inside. One of the biggest former stately homes I have visited, Leeds City Council must be commended for the meticulously high standard they have maintained and dressed the interior. It is packed full of paintings and furniture and the guides are friendly, informative and helpful. The walled gardens are also worth visiting, with a very impressive long glass house full of tropical plants and pelargoniums. Well worth the entrance fee to the house and parking charge

My favourite local dog walking spot. Beautiful landscaping, big enough to find space from others if you want that. Something for everyone. Flat accessible routes around the grounds, more adventurous, hilly routes through woodland, bridle paths, lots of different pathways through the grounds. Beautiful lake, visitor farm, Go ape, historical house and cafe. The walled gardens are looking amazing at the minute. Only thing that spoils it are visitors leaving litter behind on busy days. There are several free car parks available, and one charging car park next to the House.
As a guest to a wedding being held at Temple Newsam House, we were privileged to see parts of the house not normally available to the public. The staff were really helpful. The reception was also held in the marquee located in the walled gardens. Another place worth a visit although the marquee is only open for weddings and private functions, the walled gardens are open anytime with all the flowers in bloom it it gorgeous. There is a charge to go into the house but not the gardens. The whole estate is beautiful, clean and well kept.

Great place to visit, but without your family. I wanted to visit with my partner and our 7 month old baby but their was no access for our pram, and nowhere to leave our pram. My partner ended up staying outside and playing on the lawn with our son, this is fine, but it would have been nice if the website had said theirs no access for families with prams. I really enjoyed looking around the house though, it’s full of some amazing history.

Temple Newsam is an amazing day out, if history is your thing then this great house is a must, full of original paintings from 1500s, loads of inlaid wooden cabinets hand carved by Thomas chippendale, loads of historic items and facts of people who have stayed at & owned Temple Newsam from as early as 1400s upto the last owner in early 1900s Then you have the gardens, walled gardens, lakes & farm A must visit & highly recommend

Disabled access from the car park to the house was difficult, but once we made it inside the staff were outstanding, helpful and knowledgeable. Halloween activities and decorations made it difficult to see the house and exhibits, but of course those with younger kids who it was aimed at were having a great time, so fair enough! Overall there wasn't enough indoors to really make a day of it in the torrential autumn rain, but we'll definitely try again in the summer when the gardens/grounds are part of the plan.
Went during Halloween and it was SO MUCH fun. Temple Newsam house was so much bigger than expected. Easily spend 2 hours in there looking at each room. The walk from the nearest bus stop to Temple Newsam is also so scenic. In the evening, you see people walking their dogs and hiking. Green areas are very vast and the dense vegetation looks particularly pretty in autumn! Definitely worth a visit (or many) :)

Always loved Temple Newsam, one of the best places to visit in Leeds. Just a pity on this occasion we were caught in heavy rainfall that kind of spoiled our walk a bit. No matter, we still enjoyed tea in the cafe and a chat with some other visitors and managed to keep to the pathway and not get blown away by the strong winds. Perhaps we should visit again when the weather is a little more forgiving! Great place, highly recommended!

Beautiful venue. Some parking is free and some is charged. There is the main house, a farm, lots of green space, Go Ape and a cafe. Today we went to the farm. 4.50 per adult and you can buy tickets online or on site. Under 4s free. Really nice interaction with farm animals and examples of historic farm equipment. Very pleasant day topped off with an excellent park. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. See my photos.

This estate is a lovely place to walk around, with a farm, wooded areas, and a pond. During certain times of the year, you can also enjoy the sight of beautiful flowers in the greenhouses. Those looking for something a bit more adventurous can book a GoApe experience in advance. There is plenty to do here, making it a great day-long activity for all ages. Additionally, there is a gift shop and cafe with homemade cakes, hot and cold drinks, and hot food for visitors to enjoy.
This is a great example of Jacobean architecture and is situated in a massive area of parkland a lot of which was landscaped by Capability Brown. The estate is currently owned by Leeds City Council having been left it in 1922. The house itself is very large. Free parking does exist but you will have to walk as the parking nearer the house is pay parking. I was fortunate to visit on a quiet day so I had a lot of rooms to myself including the impressive Long Gallery
Update 13/08 - visited the house and definitely worth the £9 entry fee. is all I can say!! I've never been before, but the grounds are enormous. There's ample space for everyone, whether walking or relaxing with the family and a picnic!! Prices in the cafe are steep, but I don't mind if it's being poured back into the grounds and house. I'll definitely be returning!

My second visit here. This time with family members. A thoroughly enjoyable day. House itself has many original furniture pieces, or pieces made and sourced locally. Good details in each room of the highlights to see. Helpful and friendly staff. There seems to be some building work on the farm to make it more accessible to kids, so we didn't visit this time. But previously it was good. The grounds and walled garden are also good to walk around.
always good. huge park good for walks, farm and playing in their go ape (for big kids) and their play ground for smaller kids. well maintained grounds, beautiful historical buildings one of which weddings are held. lovely plan/flower garden all round lovely day at the park for everyone Free to visit. there is a fee to enter the farm. there is also a cafe

Historical building with an interesting past. Henry the XII slept here. The manor is kept in very good shape and has a lot to look at inside and out. It is well furnished and you can get the feeling of the period. The staff was very informative and enjoyed sharing their knowledge. There are play stations and dress up for children. A wonderful place to spend some time and to take children. Definitely worth the price of admission.
This is a beautiful place to spend a day, it has something for everyone with the main house that you can tour, acres of land to walk around, the beautiful woodland and a working farm to take the kids around. It also has a great playground and hosts a "go Ape" course too. The gardens and grounds are stunning and if you walk on thd quieter tracks you're likely to see some great wildlife too. I highly recommend Temple Newsham.
Temple Newsam is a magnificent historic estate near Leeds, UK. With its stunning mansion, beautiful gardens, and impressive art collection, it offers a captivating experience for history, nature, and art enthusiasts. Wonderful day at temple newsam despite the miserable weather. Kids aged 6 & 10, mum and nana. House is great, plenty to see and great activities for the kids on the way round and a craft room. Farm and playground lovely and well kept. Definitely worth a visit. We visited using Historic House membership and will definitely return. Beautiful area and well maintained. Cafe expensive but parking free.
Beautiful indoors and outdoors. We've visited the house previously, but went back on a Monday (house closed) to explore the grounds. Absolutely beautiful to walk around, a gorgeous garden in good bloom even in mid September and a nice friendly cafe with lots of vegan options. We enjoyed our morning.

Fabulous place even if you don't tour the house...the grounds and walled garden and greenhouse (huge) are well worth the visit alone. The extensive grounds and lake are perfect for a family to spend a peaceful afternoon strolling around taking in some stunning vistas. In the distance we noticed a folly nestled in the trees..Next time we visit we will definitely check that out...cant wait.
Great place to visit. The staffs were very kind and helpful. House ticket is £8, it's definitely worth it. You can view a lot of great art collections and see lavish decorations. At the end of the tour, there is a big ballroom where you can wear maid and noble clothes, it was really fun to wear them.

Had a great day at Temple Newsome, the outside courtyard for the tearoom was very busy, but quick service to your table once ordered. Lovely to see families and friends enjoying getting together in the sun. Fabulous walks along many paths and beautiful lakes. The walled garden is gorgeous too.
Fantastic day out! The house had lots of history and staff are very friendly and informative. Had coffee and cake in the tea room and this was reasonably priced (for this sort of attraction) and very tasty. The little farm is quite cute, and again explains the history of the place well.
Temple Newsam is a really beautiful place. The farm is great and always has been and the playground inside of the farm is really good and well kept. The whole grounds are always well kept and there are plenty of walks that can be had around the grounds. A beautiful area of Leeds …

Lovely place to visit. It's very scenic. We went to the farm, which wasn't badly priced. However, a lot of it was being renovated or closed. So there wasn't actually that much to look at. The farm does have a really good adventure
Wonderful open views and great varied walks, so close to Leeds and the M1 but a real oasis of calm. In the time we were there we saw a heron in flight over the lake. Look forward to our next visit when we will visit the House.
Temple Newsam house dates from the Tudor period. The house is decorated in period style, There are ornamental gardens, adjacent to the house. The park and woodland is expansive, and includes a lake and hot house gardens.

Lovely place for all the family, including the dogs - great walks, beautiful scenery and a cafe. The farm and house offer lots to see and do too. We come here often.
Love this park. Big place to walk. Free parking and there are many parking places. Toilet is in two places you can find. On spring time it’s amazingly blooming.
Glorious parkland setting around a magnificent house. Nice tearoom and small gift shop. Huge walled garden and nice landscape and lakes after Capability Brown.
Lovely afternoon out great for families...wheelchair friendly

Beautiful area, we came for the Parkrun so had free access to the grounds and parking until 10am, great friendly bunch of people More
A nice place to walk on the edge of Leeds. The cafes are OK and there is a farm with animals for kids which is reasonably priced.
Lovely walk around the grounds (free) and the farm(small charge) with plenty to entertain the kids. Food a bit pricey in the cafe
Im a coach driver... I took a school day trip here this week. Its an absolutely beautiful spot set in huge grounds.
Interesting house that's well cared for by Leeds Council. There's also a good cafe in the courtyard.
