So I'm a Bard Microcollege student, and the MDC is partners with our school to provide space for us to access the necessary information for a new course, "The Making of the Carceral State". The space is awesome, and the staff is super friendly and helpful! So far it's an awesome experience and I have high hopes for the future here!
If you haven't been here, you need to go. There are many offerings at the Harlem art house and theater. I have seen African films and classics. Tonight they screened Paris Blues, and the inspiration for the film was there! It is a small but comfortable venue with many offerings of various kinds.
was a former student here, hated the place to my core. the staff acted like 5 year olds they really didn't have everything they promised me and my fellow students, and drove us to leave because of all the staff drama and look for other film education elsewhere.
Small but cozy independent theater. They carry a lot of lower budget but culturally important films, festivals and events. A valuable part of the Harlem creative community. They also have media programs for kids and creatives new to the craft.
✡️ I had the pleasure of meeting Albert Maysles, what a kind man. RIP. He was just moving to Harlem, he must’ve been at least in his 70’s then! He and I spoke about his upbringing, accompanying either his Father or Grandfather (can’t
They are a tremendous asset a resource for the community. I'll be there tonight (the 1st Monday of the month) enjoying the Doc Watchers series of films "Changing Your Relationship to the World One Documentary at a Time"
I LOVED it! It's a small venue with a little movie theater. Pictures of melanated singers, actors and activists on the wall. They show movies and short films of up and coming film makers and actors.
The rows of seats are quite flat and the screen is low. Made for a horrible viewing experience as even the man of moderate height 3 rows in front of us blocked a woeful amount of the screen.
Such a gem to have the spirit of Albert Maysles and his vision of a documentary house here in Harlem. Keep up the great work and support thier continued success!!
I premiered my film "Up in the Attic" here. The staff were extremely caring and professional. They went the extra mile and my audience had a great time!
They have a great youth program. Youth get to make films too. The Staff helps out and support youth efforts. I like their ability to engage youth.
My father and I respond to his voice and I say yes for me my siblings and others to go to school like our parents
If you want a close, intimate cinema experience, this place is it! A place that cares about film and filmmakers
An excellent place for Black history, school or meeting place. The theater is small yet very nice.
Good selection movies, tiny intimate movie theater, with a downstairs space for Q&A and drinks.
Great film documentary center. Teaches youth show to express themselves through film.
Just recently found this place. Looking forward to returning for an Event.
GREAT movie selection. They started on time. The bathroom was clean.
Nice small and accessible theater with interesting selection.
Really like the boutique setting of limited run movies
