I gave this theater a 3 because of their reclining seats, the lobby looked amazing as well as the waiting area and plus the movie was really good..other than that, the people that work there, sucked. Everyone was rude except the security guard. I felt like i was in a loophole trapped with bad energy. I purchased my ticket and was asked if I wanted to donate a dollar. The cashier had already added the dollar before even asking so when I said “no” she sucked her teeth and rolled her eyes. Then she told me which seats were available so I repeated what she asked looking at the seats at the same time , basically trying to confirm which seat I was going to pick. She responded with an attitude “yes, the ones in blue” i select my seat then leave since my movie didn’t start till another hr. So I come back and go upstairs and greeted the employees who were up there with my ticket in my hand. The female associate just directed with her finger, to the white associate with glasses standing next to her. He then immediately says “I have to check your bag.” I said “hello, how you doing?” AGAIN since i felt like it was common courtesy to greet someone BACK after they’ve greeted you but i guess that’s when the female associate read my energy and told me where the food was located at. It’s super sad because I used to come to this location all of the time but it just seems like no one is living up to the principal of being friendly to your customers anymore.

I hadn't been here in several years until recently. The upgrades to the inside are phenomenal. I like the seating areas in the lobby as well as the big screen all over the place. Two things i did not like was that i was told i had to buy my ticket upstairs at the concession stand and not at the main entrance. This is the first time i have ever seen that. Also i went to see Emancipation the new Will Smith movie yesterday. There was an extremely annoying red exit sign glaring on the bottom right of the screen. I never seen that before at a theater and i don't want to see that during an entire movie. This needs to be taken care of. They need to turn it off or move it a little. As a huge moviegoer this is a HUGE distraction, just as bad as someone being on their phone with a bright screen, having their flashlight on, talking or texting. I left not even 10 minutes in and asked for a refund. I hope its not like that in other auditoriums because that is a big dealbreaker for me. I probably won't return here because of that. Its a clean and beautiful theater, just don't like that distraction and the fact that you can't buy a ticket when you first come in. Also the seats are comfortable, but the fact that they don't auto recline further back is annoying

Regal is a comfortable theater that deserves 5 stars. I would return. I love Union Square! This is a review about Oppenheimer movie that deserves 3.5 stars. When a movie is so hyped, it naturally warrants scrutiny. There are two main critiques: 1. The first half was choppy, more like an action movie; it lacked the story line of a great.. well.. story portrayed on screen. 2. Missed opportunity to share ideas. Science greats such as Brian Greene know how to share brilliant ideas without the formulae or complexity. Hollywood missed this great chance to spread complex ideas in human language. In my view, they could have consulted with Brian Greene and found opportunities where a brilliant scientist is explaining to a politician or other non-physicist some of the ideas. The movie was 3 hours, that was 1 hour longer than necessary. It lacked the written blurb on screen at the end about Oppenheimer's (and the others) legacy 50 years after the fact. I'm happy I saw the movie and recommended it. I don't think it deserves the hype. But Advertising budgets are massive. They must pay for stellar casting (aside for Ben Affleck, who was meh).

I belong to the generation before the multiplex era. Back in India, I used to look forward to watching films in massive theaters, especially from elevated 'balcony' seats. I was looking for a BIG screen to watch Oppenheimer and after repeated failed attempts, I finally got the tickets for a Sunday 10 AM show. I watched the 'IMAX 70 mm' version and absolutely enjoyed the big screen and the elevated viewing experience (Auditorium 17). A movie nerd can explain the difference between imax, digital print, aspect ratio etc but I'm glad that I waited and saw this 'film' on a IMAX screen. The ticket prices are also comparable to the usual AMC( non IMAX) prices, and the theater was very clean and easily accessible. We live in a world where movie experiences are now becoming a rarity. But I will remember Regal Union Square and highly recommend watching Oppenheimer here! Note# The film starts exactly on time and there are no 'Coming Soon' feature before the actual movie. So don't be late! Thank you.

  • Scott Ellsworth

I had OPPENHEIMER tickets for 4 weeks. No one told me there’s no previews before the movie time starts for a 70MM film. How the hell! And by the way I was there 10 min before the movie started, but had to wait 15min for a hot dog to be ready? Because during the summer for the hottest movie ever we’re not getting hot dogs ready???!!! And then the seats, in Auditorium 17, are extremely uncomfortable. You have to brace your feet on the floor to put pressure on the back of the seat for it to recline less than an airplane seat in coach. And if it’s not reclining, you’re basically being pushed forward. For a movie I waited a year to see, this movie theatre pretty much ruined my experience. The taste left in my mouth will remain. I probably will never visit another Regal cinema theatre again.

  • Jordan Cooper

I want to say I am glad Regal Union Square is still in business. I plan to go there a lot. But I had a very bad experience with Oppenheimer and feel ripped off. I paid extra for two 70mm tickets. The projection was aggressively shaky and unwatchable. I missed the beginning of the film because I went out to complain. An usher told me it was being fixed. What he didn't tell me what that it was fixed by switching to a lower quality digital projection, which became apparent to me as the movie continued. We traveled to the city to watch a 70mm print of this film, not a digital projection, which we could have done a few blocks from where we live. We wanted a refund but there were no employees anywhere when the film ended.

I recently visited this theater, and I was quite impressed with the sound experience. It was above average and added to the overall enjoyment of the movie. However, I did notice that there were a few seats that were in poor condition, which affected the comfort of the viewing experience for some patrons. Additionally, it was disappointing to see that the theater was not cleaned properly after shows. This lack of cleanliness could be improved to enhance the overall experience for the audience. Despite these issues, the impressive sound quality does stand out as a positive aspect of this theater

  • Hilton Webb

Always a good experience. Easy access, big screens and no bad sight lines. Crew cleans after every show. Clean bathrooms and respectful patrons and friendly staff. There's a Lavatsa Coffee in the lobby and a full bar on the main movie floor. The food although expensive has improved. The hot pretzels with cheese are banging. I my humble opinion the best all-around comprehensive movie house in the city. Love this theater, especially today because I got to flirt with a native Italian woman over Lavazza double espressos. Still my favorite movie theater in NYC.

  • Lucille Chalaoux

Really bad customer service I booked tickets for a movie last Sunday, and the only remaining seats were in the 1st row (auditorium 12). Usually first rows are not the best seats but at least you're able to watch the movie. Here it's was impossible to watch the movie because you are literally seated below the screen. I contacted Regal about that and they sent me an automatic answer without even reading my request, they do not respond ever since, really bad customer service...

Normally, I hate theaters because they look dirty. But this theater looked clean. As weird as it sounds, when I went into the restroom, this was maybe the first time I ever thought that a urinal smelled good... (lemon smell.) Seriouly....... The staff was polite, and engaging. I had a great vist with no negative comments... ps: my gf said the females bathroom was impressively clean, and the changing table was clean, and good quality. TWO thumbs up, to the cleanning staff.

  • Devin Hall

Came out from NJ to see The Highest of Stakes Hex documentary and honestly the theater was quite nice. Definitely one of the better theaters I've been to compared to the many I've been in NJ. I might be willing the travel back out to some more of the more important shows like that one. The food was fresh and I liked the menu. Absolutely emaculate in terms of cleanliness. Staff was friendly with even a cozy little waiting room. I do recommend checking this theater out.

  • S. Reid

I went here to see Wakanda Forever. The ticket price was $20 for an evening show, which is standard for Manhattan, but double what I pay in Brooklyn. The theater was decently clean, but the bathroom was dirty and would benefit from being cleaned more often. I’m not sure if I would return based on the state of the bathroom. The AMC theater around the corner is usually spotlessly clean and my theater of choice, but I thought I would try a new theater.

  • Kunal Datta

One of my favorite theatres to go to. I love the union square area so while waiting for my movie I got to walk around in the park and then checking in was amazing because the staff were extremely friendly. It was a bit of a wait to order food and drinks but the lemonade and diet pepsi were great choices for movie drinks. I love the RPX screenings and watching the new Spiderman movie was amazing here. I'll continue to come back here often!

  • Emma Nelson

Will not be coming to this theater again!! You pay the same price as an AMC for a wayyy worse experience. The theater was HOT, like no AC was on for the first 20 minutes of the movie. The “reclining” seats go back maybe 3 inches and don’t stay back, you have to hold your feet on the ground and press back for them to stay reclined. Incredibly uncomfortable, not worth $22 at all. Especially when you’re sitting watching a movie for 3 hours.

  • Blake Wolf

First time back since COVID and this theater is 100x nicer and more modern/futuristic than before. I went to a “busy” showing and it still felt plenty distanced by my conservative post-vaccine standards. At every point in my experience, customers and staff were adhering to safety protocols. Everything was on point and every staff member was remarkably friendly and helpful, through to the ticket-taker and concession attendant.

  • Paulo Campos

Good renovations were done here during lockdown. This doesn’t feel like an AMC multiplex. Instead of a wall of ticket sellers, there’s a cafe and ice cream spot. The lobby and open spaces create a more relaxed vibe than AMC theaters. It was unimaginable this could be a welcoming space before the renovation. This is not a mom & pop business (it’s owned by big companies) but is an alternative to AMC taking over theaters in nyc.

  • Mateo Mariscal

Awful customer service. Attendant closed the bar before the movie so she could clean the counter, and said the bar would be open in 30 minutes. She told everyone trying to get concession that she didnt care, and we should come back in the middle of the movie and it would probably be open. Not only is she hurting the revenue of the dying cinema industry but also leaving the last remaining cinema goers with a poor experience.

WORST SEATS EVER!!!! before we walked in my friend told me that seats here were pretty bad....never in my wildest imagination could I ever come up w how bad these seats really were. The MOST ATROCIOUS AND HORRIBLE THEATER SEATS I've EVER sat it'll. SO UNCOMFORTABLE. It was so bad that it actually distracted all of us (a whole group) from the movie. I don't think it's worth it. Go to regal Essex crossing for the comfy seats

  • Kathy Wu

The seats were just... unreal. They're at an 80° angle, so you're in a hunchback. You can push back to tilt your seat back, but if you weigh less than 100 lbs, it'll be impossible to keep it in that position. I had to put my whole mind, body, and soul into trying to keep my seat pushed back. Made the movie a stressful experience, and I had a headache by the end of it. I feel like I need to do 3 hours of back yoga.

  • Angie Bazemore

I paid 60 dollars for a child adult and senior ticket and was told it was because the movie was popular although the theater was less than half full. I am on a cane and asked for elevator staff said they do not have one. Movie was on the 4 the floor. On exiting found the elevator and was told a key was needed. I pressed the button and went straight to the lobby. The seats look comfortable not comfortable.

  • Yuriy Zakk

Even though it was really cool to step into with all the lights, I hated it because of 1 movie they messed up for me. I went in to enjoy a movie and ended up disliking it because Regal played the movie WITH AUDIO ISSUES! What’s more annoying than people being on their phones? Having the theater play a movie with missing audio. Your entire purpose is to give amazing movie experience. You didn’t.

  • cailingodeas

The Theatre was freezing. ac blasting and very unpleasant. Chairs were not cleaned off from the previous audience and the bathroom lacked soap and toilet stalls were not cleaned. I paid $33 for a DX ticket which had 2D effects but the volume was not that loud and i could hear the conversation of audience members chatting behind me and 6 seats away. This theatre has declined considerably.

  • Jaymi Lynne

always been a fan of this theater and today was no different - the staff was absolutely darling - from Solon at the cashier desk, to Elizabeth the ticket taker, to Linda in concessions, even Aaron in the kitchen making the pretzel bites. had an unplanned random visit to escape the heat and had a wonderful afternoon, mostly due to the staff. thanks regal union square staff - stay awesome!

  • Jon M

I can only speak to auditorium 17, row F but the new seats (although soft and cushioned) are installed at too far forward of an angle. They feel like you’re leaning forward the entire time. If the seats were pitched back about 5 degrees, they’d be great. I was uncomfortable myself and a pregnant person I came with had to leave the movie because they couldn’t get comfortable.

  • Arpit Garg

Wowza! While booking a movie ticket saw an option for 4DX screen. Curiosity made me book it. Was a unique experience. They extend the screen on the side walls for some scenes of the movie. It’s a technology in progress but still something that you need to try once. The theatre itself is good and suitably located. Do try the 4DX here.

  • Gabriella

Went to see Barbie here and had a decent experience. The building has many theatres but is kept quite clean. However, the seats are pretty uncomfortable, and it is hard to view the entire screen if seated in one of the first few rows. The service at the concession stands was good. Overall, would recommend, but sit towards the back.

  • Amit Schulze

It’s a very nice local movie place, except regular film theaters are just simply better. The tickets are overpriced and the food is too, what they call “small” for water is actually quite large. That’s good, I guess. I watched the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes film today. (The prequel to the Hunger Games Trilogy)

  • Philip Bliss

Never left a google review before but had a pretty awful experience watching a movie in a theater with no AC leading to super humid and musty air. The sound was way too loud as well - making a bad experience of a good movie. Would urge anyone considering to avoid this place when there are so many better theaters

  • Khang Tran

Decent movie experience. However the seats were a bit lacking. Using AMC as a comparison, the Regal seats were a bit more stiff, the recline was also significantly more limited, and the concession options were also severely lacking while being a bit more expensive than the nearby AMCs in Manhattan.

  • Angelica Petra

Decently place to watch a movie overall pretty clean and easy to access, the concession line is super slow and it’s a bit confusing about where you should order what, since the concession menu list things they only sell from the bar. Otherwise this is usually my go to spot for movie nights

  • Patrick Rachel

Most of the area is clean, decor is ok. Bathrooms are small & clean. The service was good. Definitely one of the better theaters I've been to compared to the many I've been in NJ. I might be willing the travel back out to some more of the more important shows like that one.

  • Jessica Kramer

This theater is huge and I know this was a big movie weekend but they were out of virtually all the drinks and more importantly this is truly the least comfortable seat I’ve ever sat in. Such nice people working there and great theaters so please upgrade the torture seats.

  • Anna Krasovska

1-4 rows are insane. You can not sell this kind of tickets, you can't even give them for free. Is impossible and unhealthy (for neck and vision etc ), to be on these seats. Me and my friends moved and seat on the floor and it was better than staying in our seats.

  • Sahrin Jahan

They are cheating customers. They charged our card twice for a movie, the front desk guy and the manager too are so ignorant they don’t know what they are doing. I watched movie on September 17 at 7:30pm and they charged me twice and now saying can’t refund me.

  • Blau German

I went here to see the new Spider-Man movie with my family. I have to say that the experience of getting the food, knowing where to go, and talking to the staff was very helpful and helped to ease my thoughts before watching the movie. 10/10 would go again.

  • Gin H

I was surprised to find out that they have monthly pass for 20$, as well as collect points on each purchase. You need to reserve a ticket upfront otherwise it might be an issue to get good seats as this place is getting crowded pretty quickly

  • gaby rivas

I would usually not give bad reviews, but honestly I don't go to the movies to be treated poorly by staff (the rudeness of the concession stand lady employee was hideous today). The only reason I am giving any stars is because the physical

Only go to this location if you just want to hang out. It's a high traffic location so a lot if people come by. A bar is pretty great to attract customers but that means you'll have loud people talking over the movie. I walked out.

  • Tanya Sez

It was a 4DX movie. We had really a great time. The staff is nice, the cinema is clean, the seats are big and comfortable. The popcorn is amazing. The cinema is easy to find and is a close to a metro station. Highly recommended!

  • KSD

This Movie is insane. Wow, compared to before. I love it. I felt I was in a whole different world. Great Job. The food was delicious. And servers was excellent. Everything about Union SQUARE theater is super awesome …

It is a nice big Cinema. The pricing is very reasonable and you can get a monthly pass for like 20$, as well as collect points on each purchase. The one thing that really 3 me off is how close the first 3 rows are to the

  • CC Mizrahi

Nice inside but unfortunately if you're short the chairs are REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE. The default incline is as vertical as a plane seat and the seat is so deep that I couldn't properly reach the floor as someone who's 5'2".

  • Rene Z

Was disappointed with a recent visit mainly because of the theater I was in. It was super tiny!!! Felt like a theater this trying isn't worth paying NYC movie ticket prices and I might as well just watch a movie at home!

  • Bill JnPierre

Expensive for a movie!! _ Sell beer and cocktails _ Love the theater seating, though does not recline FOR THAT PRICE!? If you drive, cross a bridge or tunnel. Even with gas and tolls you'll save and be more comfortable.

  • Olivia Leigh

It’s a nice theater especially on the outside. It seems they made updates but the seats are not full recline which is a bummer. They also make these weird squeaky noises. Please upgrade the seats to recliners!

  • Erika Ryan

Worst theater I’ve ever been to. The chairs have a round back that curves your head and neck towards the floor. The AC wasn’t working despite the manager saying he lowered the temp. Nice swamp to die in.

  • Cooper Marcus (Coop)

Impressive restoration and layout incl the added bar... haven't been to this or the 42nd Street Regal since before the pandemic, and, guess they spent some money to earn 4 us spending our money! …

  • Fiona Ha

We really enjoyed the ScreenX movies despite they use the technology with only parts of the movie. The seats don't fully recline but are still plushy, large and recline enough to feel truly relaxed.

  • DonnaM Bailey

Atmosphere great. Bar on-site and the bartender knws how to mix drinks. Reasonable price. Numerous drinks to choose from. Premium bar... The theater was clean and the seats spacious and comfy...

  • Cheryl Traylor

This theater is one of the most beautiful ones I've been to in NYC. I noticed it's had a recent remodeling with great lounge seating. Rumor has it,this Regal is closing! Say it isn't so!

  • Harish T

It’s a shame that there are no recliners here in the center of NYC. To top it off, they charge way higher than other highly comfortable movie theaters. Overpriced and underserved!

  • Devin O'Connor

They sold us a wheelchair ticket without telling us it was a wheelchair ticket. We tried sitting there and they kicked us out. They wouldn’t give us a refund for it either.

  • skeg matorial

came here from new jersey just to see the killer since it was only playing here. great sound, picture, and view. seats were comfortable and spacious. bathrooms were clean.

  • Brock Napoli

Sad that they are closing this theater! I've been going here since way back. Just took my daughter for Gaurdians of the Galaxy 4DX ⚡️⚡️✨️✨️ …

  • Raul Avila

I had a good experience here watching Ready Player One. Good staff, no food shortages, clean bathroom, helpful staff and kind. Thanks all. See my pictures. @thatsraul

  • Sandra Wong

The theatre looks nice and comfortable, but the chairs do not recline, which most other theaters have. The staff was nice and friendly. I enjoyed my experience here.

  • Rebekah Channell

This place was very cool and we'll designed, plus it had a coffee shop on the ground floor which was nice! Seats in the theater were not comfortable though.

  • Ed P.

They did some renovations recently and it’s great! They have a bar, great snacks, comfy seats, big screens and good sound. Wonderful place to watch a film.

  • Jen T

The place looks great, even has a bar. The seats are horrible, so uncomfortable. Wish they would have spent the unnecessary bar money on better seats.

  • R J

Very good theatre. Friendly staff, convenient location, accessible by multiple train lines, clean, and pre pay concessions are available via the app.

  • Anthony DiFrancesco

This is one of my favorite movie theaters! Good selection of movies, nice seats, and good concessions. The staff is also really friendly as well.

  • Sybid Jones

It is a good movie theater but they really have to check EVERY single bag? Today I had a tiny purse (4"x5"x2") and they guy insisted in check it

  • scott hartley

Not as good as I was hoping for the 4dx experience but was comfortable and all around nice theatre. Just too pricey in my eyes to watch a movie

  • josh appleseed

Saw Oppenheimer oct 7th, had constant audio cuts. Couldn't hear multiple important conversations in the movie. Customer support useless.

  • Aravinthan Aravinth

Very clean and comfortable movie theater, but there are issues in movie room lights going on and off in the middle of the movie ! …

  • Kimberly Villegas

Updated, clean and comfortable seats. Have seen this location go through many changes over the years. This is the best it had ever been.

  • Steve Cruz

4DX Theater Was Cool. The Kids Really Enjoyed It! No 5 Star Because Theater Needs More Food Options! Other Than That, No Complaints!

  • Daniel Lamblin

It's renovated and there's beer on tap as a concession. My daughter says it's retro but if so it's a new retro that's welcome.

  • Maggie Ramos

It's been a while since I've been here. The seats are completely comfortable. The food is good and so close to the train.

Saw nun2 screening in the RPX theater and the seats are comfortable along with the sound made for an enjoyable experience

Have not been in this location in years. Nice redo. Great layout. Much better experience than before. Will go back.

  • Milla Doubrovkine Paskar

The seats were super comfy and when I saw the Nun 2 my theatre was completely empty! Super nice theatre

  • Steve LeVine

Nice, clean theater. Seats in good condition and recline somewhat. There’s even a full bar upstairs.

  • Nicholas Gazin

It’s a big centrally located multi-plex and it has a 4DX. Not much else to say beyond that.
