Note: this is a very old review I wrote for another website. I am reposting it now, but I don't know if they've changed any policies, etc. But this still bothers me when I think about it: Me and my girlfriend saw Inside Llewyn Davis at Nitehawk Cinemas. I found the menu to be overpriced, the constant interruptions by the waitstaff during the movie to be horribly distracting, and the endless milling about by them to just be completely antithetical to an ideal cinema experience. Normally at a movie theater, maybe once or twice somebody will walk in front of you during the movie. At Nitehawk, this happens every 2 minutes. Waitstaff are constantly going around to all the seats. Serving drinks, food, taking away plates, giving the check, asking many, many, many times for the paid check during the climactic final 15 minutes of the movie you are seeing. I missed the end of the movie because the waitress would not go away and kept bothering me about the check. Let me watch the end of the movie! I don't want to miss the movie because I am figuring out the check, pulling money out of my wallet, figuring out the tip, signing a receipt, etc, etc. This is not how you watch a movie. Especially one that you are REALLY enjoying, like I was. Is the theater nice? Sure. The seats were really comfortable. The sound and picture were fine. The pre-movie stuff on the screen was fun. The popcorn wasn't bad. But this is not a movie theater for people who love movies and want to be immersed in a story. Endless distractions and interruptions ruined the whole experience. I just don't understand why others are saying "this is how the movies should be." Absolutely not.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Nitehawk Cinema, a unique movie theater in Brooklyn where you can dine while watching your favorite films. The experience was truly one-of-a-kind and exceeded my expectations in every way. The theater itself is modern and stylish, with comfortable seats and great sound quality. The fact that you can order food and drinks right from your seat was a game-changer for me - it's so much more convenient than having to get up and leave the theater mid-movie. The menu was impressive, with a wide variety of options ranging from classic movie snacks to more substantial dishes like burgers and tacos. I was impressed with the quality of the food - everything was fresh and delicious, and the service was quick and efficient. One thing that really stood out to me about Nitehawk Cinema was the attention to detail when it comes to the movie-watching experience. The theater has a strict no-talking policy, which ensures that everyone can enjoy the movie without distraction. The staff also do a great job of making sure that the food and drink service is as unobtrusive as possible, so you can focus on the movie without being interrupted. Overall, I would highly recommend Nitehawk Cinema to anyone looking for a unique and memorable movie-watching experience in Brooklyn. The combination of great food, comfortable seating, and a top-notch movie selection make it a must-visit destination for film buffs and casual movie-goers alike. Whether you're looking for a fun date night or a solo movie-watching adventure, Nitehawk Cinema is the perfect spot.

Our favorite cinema in Williamsburg. It’s a cool space that always has great, custom trailers of old music videos/ retro trailers/ idiosyncratic videos before the film begins. I would recommend buying your tickets in advance. Seating is more limited due to social distancing. As of July 2021, there are tables in-between each group left empty for this reason. There is a full-service menu available, including cocktails. Don’t bring outside food and be prepared to order before the film. Doors open 30 minutes in advance so you can do so much easier then. I wasn’t welcomed at the front. Instead, I was expected to show my ticket to my server once I was in the seat. Food-wise? I love the variety of vegan options I had an Impossible Burger sans cheese that came with a pickle and fries! My boyfriend loved the farro bowl. This is definitely a great date spot where you can have quality food and a quirky film experience.

I've always cherished this theater; it's been a sanctuary of splendid experiences until an incident yesterday marred my perception. The unique ordering system involves writing selections on a provided slip of paper for the server to process. As someone who has proudly maintained sobriety, I took care to transcribe the exact name of a non-alcoholic beverage from the menu. Despite this precaution, I was inadvertently served an alcoholic drink. Unaware, I consumed it entirely, only to recognize the onset of intoxication. The sensation of tipsiness, particularly on a mundane Wednesday, unravelled me, stirring the ghosts of a past I thought I had overcome. The incident inflicted a deep psychological blow, making me feel as though I'd regressed to a darker chapter of my life. So disappointed. They said someone from their team was going to contact me about the incident the next day but no one reached out so far.

This place is not like a regular theater...this place is more of a Bar and Restaurant with a movie screen upstairs than a regular movie theater with popcorn and snacks.... I went to see "Once Upon A Time in Hollywood".... Movie wasnt that good but this place is still good for a fun couples night... I ordered the chicken sandwich with fries and a diet coke....... 2 chicken sandwiches with fries, 2 diet cokes, and about 6 drinks came out to about $ 88 with tip...... 6 drinks because the movie wasnt good so we went downstairs to the bar and started drinking......a bar in a movie theater what a great idea!!! The cost of movie tickets was about $30 for two tickets.... Good service, unique environment, and good food.....show up 30 mins before showtime or you won't get a seat....This place is a bit pricey but definitely worth the experience...expect to spend at least $100 if you go here...

Going for a show at Nitehawk is more than just a movie; it’s a whole experience. My husband and I just saw The Shining here for Sunday Brunch - AMAZING! The ambiance serves up retro-hipster vibes with everything from the 80s era ads played before the movies to the vintage Sears doors on the women’s bathroom. The food is excellent (yes, they have a brunch menu), with table service and a silent ordering system that doesn’t distract from the movie. The specialty cocktails I tried, which were themed to the movies I previously attended, were delicious and strong! Highly recommend. They also have a variety of other events and children’s viewings that are very worth checking out. I only wish I could get here more often! I absolutely LOVE the Nitehawk Theaters (the review references Williamsburg, but Prospect Park is also lovely).

To get to the theater I had to go up one flight of stairs, down two. I have chronic pain so this was difficult. I read just now that there's a wheelchair accessible entrance and elevator but none that I was able to see. The handrails were sticky, the theater smells of alcohol before anyone even orders a drink. The chairs were cramped and uncomfortable, it was hard to get into my chair as a fat person, the tables were in an awkward position forcing me to be pressed against the person next to me. The waiters are constantly walking in front of the screen, I've been in other theaters that serve food and at those theaters they crouch so nobody misses anything. The person next to me talked throughout the whole movie, so that may be a demographic issue. The popcorn was mediocre, the soda flat, overall would not recommend.

So Ive been going to this movie theater since it was still The Pavilion and i think they did an okay job with the renovation and Ive never had any complaints till a few days ago, I know they have a bar in side the movie but I think its very important for the bartenders or management to make sure there is not any intoxicated person or persons allowed into the movie theater rooms. I went to see Morbius a few nights ago and an individual enter pretty intoxicated and just kept interrupting the movie with comments and loud noises I was sitting couple seats away from the individual also. Management went to speak to the person a couple times but did not once check the seat ticket nor ask the person to leave. They did not honor their policy which was very disappointing… Not sure this is an experience Id go over again.

  • fernando babilonia

Went here to catch phantom threads. Tickets for the 430 show we're under 13 each which was nice. You get plenty of leg room since the space is needed for the wait staff. I was a tad worried about that aspect and how it would interfere with the movie experience. These were soon put to rest and I never felt guilty about ordering refills on my beer. We ordered a chicken sandwich, the pork tacos and an appetizer of brussel sprouts and kimchi. The star from the trio were the brussel sprouts by far. The other two were no stragglers but that goes to show you how much we enjoyed the brussel sprout spicy kimchi combo. First time here will be back! If you keep your stubs it's a blanket $5 dollar draft beer at their bar low res on the ground floor.

had to delete my 5 star review from 5 years ago just so I can have the satisfaction of saying again what a gem this place is. The previews are house made and curated and a work of art. Your seat is reserved, but you will be glad you went early just to watch them, because again, they are works of art. Most people think of their bar, Lo-Res, as a place to convene before or after the movie, but I regularly go here without seeing a movie just because it’s that good. They have amazing cocktails in general, but also invent their own to pair with the theme of the movies they are showing (they do this w food too), which is just awesome. Been living in the neighborhood 7 years and this is still in my top 5 establishments

A great indoor movie activity - the vibes are so fun and off beat. Had the nitehawk queso as an appetizer at the bar ahead of the movie, then went upstairs to the cinema. There was a bar up there if you wanted to grab a drink prior as well. Ordering inside the theater was straightforward by writing on a notecard - each movie had its own themed drink or meal which is hilarious (we went to see Dumb Money about the GameStop stock phenomenon, so the drink was Diamond Hands and meal was Get those Tendies as a play on the memes). Seats were comfortable and though the air conditioning was blasting during a period at first, I was largely comfortable the whole movie. The fried chicken sandwich was spectacular.

I had really high hopes and standards for the Nitehawk Cinema, when I googled it, it said they were the number one movie theater in Brooklyn. Unfortunately I Didn’t have a good first experience at this movie theater at all. Yesterday me and my best friend went to go see the new movie “nope”. We had to sit next to a smelly guy and when I asked to change my Seat they told me no. We never received our food or drinks until towards the end of the film , The waiter walked past several times and not acknowledged us. I wasn’t trying to turn it into a race thing but ( we were the only black people in the theater. Then when we received our bill it we were overcharged. Horrible for experience at nighthawk

  • Josef Beyer

We saw the New Nicolas Cage Movie here and had the best Cinema evening since a long time. You can order food at the place and they have a very good system for that service. The food was really good. They offer vegan burgers and a lot of different food that we really liked. They did a short Compilation of different Nicolas Cage Sketches and Movies before the Film started and that showed how much this Cinema cares for good entertainment and their love to good Movies.

  • Yan Zheng

Omg, I love this cute place so much!!! If I lived around this area, I would go there often!! You can order food and drinks with a piece of paper which is quite cool. Before the movie starts, there are some video clips that the theater makes to reference the film that they’re going to play. And you can order food even tho it’s a bit annoying that the waiter will walk during the movie, but no big deal. Highly recommend this place!!! Such a good dating idea.

  • Nickitas Georgas

I have been to the Nighthawk at Prospect Park a few times but apparently this one is the original. Such a great place! I love how it differs from other cinemas, with the way the theaters are placed and how they are set up, and the bar, the decor, their dinner served family style while you watch (always nice service), and the warm strangeness of it all. Close to a European open air theater atmosphere, except not open air, and American. Whaaat? I love it!

  • Derick

the movie selection is awesome, but... the chairs suck if have someone next to u that cant stop shaking their leg ur gonna feel that. the popcorn in my opinion sucked and it 8 bucks for a super small portion. wish there was more space between rows, because u cant spread ur legs infront of u with the constant emplyee getting orders and giving orders. if u thought amc had over priced snack/food selection, yeah think twice.

  • Andrea D

If you are plus size skip this theatre especially if your theatre is not on first floor. I was glued to my other date, the guy who didn’t know he was my date until he and I practically sat in each other’s lap, because we were so close, but his boyfriend didn’t seem to mind. Horrible seats, service was great, food was okay and overpriced considering the flavor of the food. They had a better menu August of 2022.

  • Rob Robinson

We love to visit Nitehawk! There's a great selection of brand new and retro movies showing. They do 35mm presentations too! The servers are always friendly and they make signature cocktails to complement each of the movies that are showing. The food is pretty good too (great Tots!). Be sure to check out the Lo Res bar downstairs too with some old school VHS movies on show.

  • Yoni Zoldan YoloWithYoyo

Very intimate experience. The charcuterie/cheese board was unreasonably overpriced for the amount of food that came with it. Other than that, it was a great experience. Small screening rooms, order food from the table on a piece of paper with a pencil, beers are great. Enjoyed the smaller room vs big one as it was simply a cool experience to watch a great film on.

  • Sara

We went for Oscars night at the Williamsburg location which was fun, the food/drinks were good, and service was quick. Only negative is that they advertised the night as a celebration that included a "photo booth and giveaways", but they had neither. There weren't even paper ballots for the Oscars. Fun place to watch, but not an event as advertised.

  • Saleem Abdulah

Just a great place to bring great people! This movie house really has the best popcorns and drinks that you can get while watching movies. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and everything here is very comfortable and relaxing. I really had a great time here, and I'm sure that this movie house will be surely recommended. GOOD JOB!

  • Tresa R

This was so fun! I came here last weekend for the first time with some friends for a Sunday matinee. We split some appetizers and drinks that were pretty fair in price, they even provided a themed menu for the movie. The lobby and theater have a very charming atmosphere, I’ll definitely be back in the near future.

  • Elle C.H.

I really want to like it, I always love the movies but the food is so bad that it really detracts from the whole experience. The farro salad was barely edible. My friend said her chicken sandwich was dry and the bun stale, it took ages to get anything additional we asked for. Maybe just order drinks and fries.

  • Alex Davids

It's a different movie experience than you will get pretty much anywhere else but I was expecting a bit more. The prices are crazy high and the service is sort of distracting during the movie. I guess that is unavoidable. For the novelty factor I would recommend, especially since many people love this place.

  • Taiye Adolf

Such a unique cinema experience. I love how small the theaters are. Sometimes movie theaters are freezing cold, but the temperature was perfect, comfy. The table service was so charming, it was actually so much fun to order food and be served while enjoying the movie. Will definitely be back again, Thanks.

  • Ham burglar

The Nitehawk reminds me of a smaller scale Alamo Drafthouse, and that's a good thing. I love the Nitehawk brunch movie selections and its something I usually attend to watch some favorites w a nice cocktail Sunday morning. I recommend tjis theater jigjly , even if you jist want a great nar to go drink at

  • Don Nixon

Nitehawk is one of the greatest places in all of Williamsburg. You are doing it wrong if you don’t order the fried chicken sandwich. My partner and I will sometimes just order the chicken sandwich to go with no movie. I recommend ordering an extra side of pimento sauce for your fries with the sandwich.

  • Andrea Aquines

I love coming here. The food is great, the staff is great the drinks are to die for. I have had their truffle popcorn, veggie burger, impossible burger and queso and they were all amazing. Their frozen margarita is spicy and flavorful. I highly recommend this place to watch a movie and grab some food.

  • Orla James Haley

I love this theater! Full service dining in a movie theater setting complete with alcoholic beverages (if you so choose) and ice cream? What more could you ask for? Want to keep drinking and share thoughts after the film? There's a bar for that just downstairs. Be sure to check out both locations!

  • Andrew Geller

I’ve been to the Nitehawk about a dozen times and really appreciate it. Awesome place for dinner and a movie. Super comfy seats. Great service. Surprisingly good food. Excellent drinks. Just quirky enough to be interesting but professional enough to make a challenging concept work incredibly well.

  • Anthony Molina

Honestly my favorite theater in New York City. There are always fun screenings and a themed food menu. This is the spot that changed NYC liquor laws to allow movie theaters to serve liquor. A trailblazer... Always a fun time here! Most recently went to a movie with live score-amazing!

  • Jovon V.

Great theater nice and cozy. Watch out Alamo! It’s in a really good area where you can eat afterwards, shop or just walk around. Hopefully this place catches on so you can purchase tickets ️ on Fandango. My new place to see movies . …

  • Adecio Moreira Jr.

I really loved the VHS decoration. The theaters are not very large but are enough for the purpose. I watched the Sean Baker movie and it was an amazing experience. I like the vegan options on the menu. The fries were really crunchy and dry. Amazing staff!

  • Joy Buelens

This is by far the coolest movies theater I have ever been to. Instead of commercials before the movie starts you get to see a compilation in line with the movie you're about to see. Places are limited and not numbered so make sure you're on time.

  • jason trompeter

Expect to walk some stairs and navigate through crowds. Also the wait staff can be annoying as they serve the theater goers. That aside it's a hip place with cool flicks. Just know it's not a standard theater and expect the issues I mentioned.

  • Mandy Elizabeth

Rude, stuffy place. Cery small theaters and the patrons viewing the movies treat it like a library, you can't laugh, you can't gasp, you can't breathe! The manager is very rude, condescending...hunny your the supervisor of a movie theater

  • Dorthy Thielsen

Best date night spot. The food is perfect. I have never been disappointed by any food or beverage there. Exceptional veggie burger. Everything is very reasonably priced. The previews are always delightful so I recommend coming 30 minutes

  • Dani Park

Delicious, ever changing menu. Recently had crispy gochujang brussel sprouts and I NEED to recreate them at home. I always love their movie selections, especially their midnight movies, and I will most likely exclusively see movies here.

  • Jeanne Donegan

Incredibly small/narrow seats. I really wanted to love this place, but was so turned off by how uncomfortable and tight the seating was (at least in theater 3). As someone who wears a size XL, my hips barely fit. I was horrified thinking

  • Erin Costello

Great indie movie theater with a bar and food/drink service during movies. Extremely comfortable seats. Discovered this place during the Brooklyn Horror Festival and saw some really great unique films and documentaries. Highly recommend!

  • Trinity Noriega

pretty neat theater, good options of drinks and food, cool previews of box office movies as well as indie projects. the only negative i had was because of me sitting next to a stranger. the attendee said that they would do separate tabs

  • Alexandra Mendez-Diez

Great selection of movies at a great price. For a movie theater the food is excellent, for a Brooklyn restaurant it's passable. Be sure to get tickets in advance, it just about always sells out. For me, one of life's great pleasures is

  • Jason Kim

Great vibe but the food is hit or miss. The Cheetos dusted chicken fingers were wet on the outside and an overcooked, dry, flavorless chewy mess on the inside. Got the fried chicken sandwich another time and was equally flavorless.

  • Michael Rufino

Quite possibly one of my favorite movie theaters of all time. Whomever does the programming has great taste in movies. The special events are superb, and the food and drinks are even better. A must visit if you are in Williamsburg.

  • Ran Ran Shepp

I have been here 3 times and each time was very pleasant. And it seems I hace only come to watch Horror movies all three times. Service was great. I love the Dusty Dorito Chicken Tenders. I love the old school feel of the theater.

  • Ashlee

This was my first time at this theatre. The server Isabel was absolutely great. She was attentive and provided excellent service. Although my friend and I didn't like the movie, the experience was great because of her!

  • Yeva Shport

Went here to see Scream VI. Theater was nice and clean, and I thought it was cool that they showed videos related the movie before it started. Recommend the tacos and brussel sprouts. Drinks were also really good …

  • Remy Jimenez

Idk what I just got here loli just have to laugh the food is a joke so disappointed in the for the money they charge and the food they give i will never order food again here the drinks are good though ( I have pics )

  • Tina Rho

Food and drinks are great here (you must try the tots)! Love that their menu changes and that they do themed food and drinks for special viewings. My friend and I tried the butter beer for the harry Potter showings.

  • Paul Juser

I have seen many great movies and eaten much great food here. They show the off-beat, indie films you would expect alongside big-budget films in a more relaxed atmosphere than the crowded cinema down the street.

  • Hiliary Leneweaver

Great place to watch a movie! Drinks are excellent, love trying their different specials. Food is always good, popcorn is great. We loved brunch here. Small and cozy theaters, first come first serve for seating.

  • Tom Imperati

What an amazing time! Saturday morning cartoons and tons of cereal! Cereal envisioned drinks if you are up for it. So much fun, group participation, and amazing hosts for the event. I can't wait to do it again.

  • Jake Kamensky

Hmm love this theater, but why are they not showing Sounds of Freedom?! Really wanted to see that movie. If they have Barbie and Oppenheimer, surely they’d have an indie film like SOF. But I’m shocked.

  • Joseph J Vadapalas

If you are a fan of movie theaters that serve food, then Nitehawk is right for you. Range of movies from mainstream to less so, good food, moderate pricing (for NYC) and friendly/ professional staff.

  • Zeen Absolute

It's fine. The temperature was wonky, the seats were sticky, and the cocktail I had was weak. That said, the service was on point and I appreciate independent theaters, so would continue to support.

  • Ty

I remember going here back in the days when it was a different name. I like how they renovated the place. Plus it’s now a dine in theater. They get an extra star for having alcoholic frozen drinks.

  • Juliet Burgess

A super cool venue with table service at your movie seat! Loved the pre show content and all around vibe. It was pretty pricey compared to a regular big box cinema but I would say it is worth it.

  • Lotte V.E.

We fell IN LOVE with this nostalgic cinema. Ordering cocktails whilst watching a movie with your utterly charming paper system elevated the whole experience to another level. We will be back :)

  • T C

U can’t go wrong with a special themed cocktail and a juicy burger when you watch the film. Good retro vibe and professional service. You do need to book your tickets ahead for the weekends!

  • Ranitri Weerasuriya

The free seating option is super stressful and disturbs everyone at the cinema. Assign seat numbers! It’ll do everyone a favor. The option for food service looks promising. About to try it!

  • Regina Canavan

We went here today for Mother’s Day. We saw a great movie. The theater is quaint, clean, and the service was amazing! The popcorn is so good too! Next time, we are going to have dinner!

  • Chelsey Sanchez

Absolutely love this place, went to watch avatar and got the themed food and it was great and the drink as well, friendly staff and clean environment, going again to watch Talk to Me !

  • Ishraki

Overall it's a good theater. There's a bar downstairs and the seats are rather comfortable since it's a dine in place. Sort of fun to watch a movie with the servers bring you food.

  • Steph Hill Rabasa

Awesome cinema in Williamsburg - more artistic selection of films, and cocktail and food options while you view. Fun elevated experience and warm buttery freshly made popcorn!

  • Marco Marone

Nitehawk Cinema is a gem! This place is on to something with their mix of vintage and modern movie experience. The movie rooms are small and cozy, with non-stop seat service.

  • Cait Loper

Had a great experience here, enjoyed a cocktail and a salad, and enjoyed the vibe of the theater quite a lot. I will definitely come back next time I’m in Brooklyn.

  • Abigail Hurst

Seriously such a fun place. If you go, get the Nitehawk popcorn, it’s amazing! They just got new seats too, so it’s even more comfortable to sit in the theaters.

  • Scott Benson

Much like an Alamo draft house. Comfy seats. Fun events. Went for the Saturday morning cartoons and had a great time. Love that they do themed drinks and food.

  • William T Davis

Had an awesome experience at a showing of the prestige that had a little magic show before it. The seats were comfortable and the food and drinks were great!

  • Jaye Aster Broder

Nice theater with fair priced food and drink. There are a lot of steps. I didn’t seem an elevator but I might have missed. Good movies are shown here.

  • Caroline Njuguna

Whatever they were aiming to do with this theater was accomplished. Sound quality was great ! Drinks were extra strong & just loved the vibe overall.

  • Gee Cabarle

I have been coming here for years. The food isn't as good as the Alamo Drafthouse or Syndicated but it's not bad either and the experience is great.

  • Eva Sageer

Love this theater, Is small and cozy. The food is amazingly delicious and the service is on point. Would be nice if they had better seats.

  • Yana Yano

Interesting and cozy cinema. The food is overpriced, but drinks are quite cheap. Sound system is good, auditorium is big and clean.

  • Maze Fernanz Andrew (SuperGlove)

Always a treat. Went to see Spoons and Toons. Hilarious hosts. Plus the theater itself always has great food options, and drinks.

Beem coming here for years and have watched at least 50 films. Not a bad seat in the house, a great menu, and friendly service.
