New neighborhood park with a history and agricultural theme. Opened in 2015, but parts of the park are still under construction, with no word as to when it will be finished. The park has several nice, clean, picnic sites to choose from. Some are for groups only and require a reservation, some are first come first serve. There is a children's play area called "Uncle Monty's Discovery Farm" (named for one of the family members who used to live on the farm), and it is next to an expansive green lawn area, complete with stone amphitheater. I haven't found a very accurate way to measure just how many miles of trail i have walked in my time there, but i would guess its a little more than 3 miles, all together. There will be more once the back portion of the park opens! Looking forward to it! On the weekends, their visitor center/ history museum is open to the public and the park rangers and docents give at least 1 tour every Saturday and Sunday, rain or shine. There is a $6 flat fee for parking for the day, otherwise walking in and the tours are free! The park rangers have said that the goal is to have most of, if not all, of the park open by 2020. Looking forward to it!

I recently visited Martial Cottle Park, and it was an absolute alright of a time! The park offers hiking trails that are perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and families, finally stretching their hamstrings after a winter of dormancy. You can see several stone farm animals that are to scale up close and personal. The park is well-maintained, and the restroom facilities were conveniently placed at the end of the parking lot. Plus, at just $6 for an all-day entrance, it is an affordable way to spend the day out in the sun. While there is an option to pay per hour, I would suggest sticking with the all-day entrance fee. One of the best things about Martial Cottle Park is that it's open until 7 pm, so you can really make a day of it. It is an excellent spot for throwing outdoor parties or picnics, and the educational visitor center is a great way to learn about the history of the park and the local area. Your dog needs to be on a leash in this park. Bring your comfortable shoes and sunscreen, as there's so much to see and explore.

One of the Santa Clara County Parks, this one is a former privately owned, now public land owned farm in the middle of the built up suburbia around it. I walked the perimeter trail around it and it was a pleasant enough neighborhood walk, looking out over the field being cultivated. The interior of the park has central grass, BBQ, bathroom facility areas and small educational center about the history of the agriculture in the valley. Decent signage, clean, good for families. Event space can be rented out for larger gatherings and picnics. The UC Master Gardeners make use of a small plot for demonstration and Q&A gardens. Our City Forest also uses space for cultivating trees for their program to plant around the city and educate on urban landscaping. Not as much of a get away feel as many of the parks in the county system since it is right in a neighborhood, but it does provide a nice walking trail with close access for use.

Like all the Santa Clara County parks, they charge for vehicle admission, but if you walk or bike in, it is free. There is some street parking outside the park, but take care in crossing Snell even at the light. Traffic can be heavy and the light by the park entrance is fairly new, so some people are not used to it yet. This park was previously a farm and it still has that feel to it, with grapes growing on the fences and farmland on both sides. There are a lot of paved paths through the park and a jogging/biking trail around the perimeter and past the fields. There are plenty of little areas with benches or picnic tables, some of which are available for reservations for events as well as a small play area with a slide and some things to climb There's a Halloween/Harvest festival here in the autumn and other small events throughout the year.

Wonderful place for both adults and kids. Park is very large and expansive and has several parts. Start with the visitor center - lots of history and very helpful rangers. From there you can bike, hike, roller skate along park’s long paths or head to the playground. It’s quite unique with wooden animal statues that kids can ride and play with. There are a lot of succulents planted everywhere with helpful tags explaining their purpose and how to care for them. We saw people launching rocket models in the large grass area, people biking around, having picnics (many very well maintained picnic tables all over the place). The only problem is finding shade - this place is quite flat and though they have planted trees they are still pretty small. Restrooms - plenty and clean. Parking - $6 entrance or outside on street. Stroller friendly - yes.

A collaboration between the county of Santa Clara and the State of California, this public park is situated on 287 acres. The property was donated by Mr Walter Cottle and family. The idea here is to represent the farming past of this part of San Jose. There is a working farm, a Master Gardener's plot and Our City Forest. additionally there is a very nice visitor center, great children's playground and many barbecue areas. Parking is $6 a vehicle or you can bike and ride there for free. Extensive pass around the perimeter of the park and through the recreational areas make for a great place to bike ride. Family friendly and flat although afternoons can be very windy. It is a farm that has become a new park so there is not a ton of shade trees but there are some shaded areas to picnic. #SanJose #BlossomHill #Park #FamilyFun

Today my wife and went to Martial Cottle Park. It was our first time to the park. We went to do our walking/jogging on the routes. Our son and daughter in law told us this is the best place to walk. They recommended this Martial Cottle Park to us. We completed our walk/jogging today and we are both happy about it too. We also had questions about the park and we asked one of the workers. Jeremy C. answered all our questions and he was very pleasant. Jeremy’s knowledge of the history of Martial Cottle Park was very impressive and factual. Thank you Jeremy for taking the time to answer our questions and sharing your knowledge of Martial Cottle Park with us. Great place to go to for training, leisure and agricultural learning. Fun place to go to with lots of activities for everyone.

It's a fantastic area with a 2 lane bike & walking trail on the periphery of the park. Unfortunately, any cycling experience will usually be marred by 3 groups of people. First, some parents and their kids who treat the walking/bike trail as a playground. These parents have no consideration, offer very little supervision and allow their kids to run rampant, posing a hazard and a nuisance to themselves and others. Second, certain pet owners who maintain very little control of their pets as they walk the trail and finally pedestrians who occupy both lanes and prevent any other traffic to pass by. Best times to avoid these groups are usually late morning and early afternoon.

FYI.My wife and I parked our car along chynoweth right by the entrance to the park. We were there to take a walk my wife put her purse in the back of the car in the trunk and we locked the car and took a walk. When we returned the driver side window was smashed and the trunk door open and my wife's purse and wallet stolen... we secured the purse in the trunk but someone must have been watching and when we left for a walk they broke into the car. not a reflection on the park as it's a beautiful place to walk but be careful when you park outside of the park.

  • Raquel Green

Love this park and it is well maintained. The Rangers are friendly and nice to see people working in the garden. There are always people there walking, biking or jogging. I think people walk there dogs should keep them close when walking by others. There dog might be friendly but people need to think of those who are afraid of dogs. I don't like hearing don't worry he doesn't bite and he is a good dog Some people are afraid of dogs regardless of what you say. I do have to say though,it doesn't happen that often. Most people are good pet owners here.

I have lived by this park for 5 years but never came in but im glad i checked it out. Its really great to explore an untouched portion of Silcon Valley because is there is so little of it left. It transports you back a few decades to see what this beutiful land looked like pre-sprawl. Sabrina the visitors center clerk was super nice and informed me that the orginal house owned by the Cottle family is in progress of being restored and will be open to the public in a few years. Excellent place to walk around and get some exercise and explore.

Established in 1864, bringing exciting programs forward to educate, inform, to provide our communities with a unique agricultural, recreational, and educational experience. "Come forth into the light of things, let nature be your teacher. " ~William Wordsworth The "light" he speaks of shines bright here. Which after meeting the fantastic staff members, it was easy to see why. Katie Thompson! We hope to see more of your incredible efforts in our continued exploration of Martial Cottle. You've made "pioneers" out of us (FOMCP donor joke).

This is a beautiful park. They have a visitor center with lot's of cool things to see and learn for both kids and adults. The bathrooms are always super clean. The park staff is informative and very helpful. They have 4 first come first serve sites with bbq pits and tables for picnics and parties. They also have larger sites you can reserve. They have a farm themed playground. They have paved trail around the perimeter that's good for walks, runs, bikes, skateboards etc. This is a hidden gem in San Jose.

  • Omar Jadid

Amazing place to go for a walk and enjoy many of the sites of San Jose by avoiding a lot of the hustle and bustle even though you're quite pretty much in the middle of it you don't feel that you are and there's plenty of nice people enjoying this place with you there are lovely plants and farming areas as well as animals like sheep that are being raised in this area. It's nice to see what has been done with this place and it looks great! I recommend anyone who can come by to check it out!

  • Ankur Jaiswal

By far the best park in the Bay Area. One of the newest. Everything is in top notch shape. Very large grounds. Never feels crowded. Kids Play area is unique and modeled like a farm. Several picnic areas available and rest rooms are clean. The park hosts so many events each year. Just went to the VivaCalle SJ and Oct 6th is the Harvest Festival. These are some of the best free public events in the south bay. Parking is always $6 a day or $2/hr if visiting for shorter duration.

  • Lisa Nguyen

The one thing I don't like is that there is very little shade on the pathways where you walk. In turn, it gets pretty windy.
Playground
Isn't a traditional playground with slides or swings. But still cool for kids to play at.
Restrooms
Clean.
Dog-friendliness
Some poop stations. One water station at the other end near branham.
Picnic area
Lots of picnic areas for parties. Some shaded and some not

We attended a "dogs on the barn" walk for dogs and their owners. We took a beautiful still with a park ranger and other dog owners around the property, stopping every now and then to learn about the land and how dogs have been helpful there. Upon completion you get a certificate that your pup is a "Bark Ranger", a metal tag for your collar and a bandana or poop bag holder. Really great experience for our 3 month old puppy!!

  • Agnes Kerchner

Just discovered this park. Absolutely love it. The visitors center is amazing with lots of local history. Volunteers are very friendly. If you have a 4 legged friend they can become a Bark Ranger. The bathrooms are clean and new. The playground is amazing. So many cool places for kids to climb and play. We love this place. And it’s very calm and relaxing. So many birds singing. Love it.

  • D J

Nice place but it's not a state park so if you have paid for an annual state park pass it won't work here even though it is listed as a state park and has the seal on it's sign! And then a security officer blocked my car & was peering in! My kid wasn't ready to go to the playground & wanted to play with his toys! What the heck?! I paid for all day parking! I have never felt so uncomfortable at a park!

  • Alicia Alvarenga

One of my favorite places to walk with the kids. It’s enclosed so they can safely ride their bikes, roller blade, & skate board Without worrying about cars. It’s a good 4 mile walk for me, sometimes we do it twice. I take my dog as well, they have doggy bag dispensers throughout the path, and a super clean bathroom. I just love coming here it’s literally one of my favorites places to walk.

  • Kristin Thomas

This is a great park with tons of room. You can walk, run, ride bikes, fly kites, picnic, and so much more. The views of the hills and mountains is stunning with amazing sunsets. There is a playground for the kids with unique items like the well you can pump water out of. There are squirrels, bunnies, and lots of other critters running around.

  • Horst Mausezahl

One of my favorite places to walk with these children. It is enclosed in order that they can safely ride their bicycles, rollerblade, & skateboard without fretting about automobiles. It is a great 4-mile walk to me, occasionally we do it double. I just enjoy coming here it is literally one of my favorites places to walk.

  • amy games

This is a beautiful park. It has huge, green grassy fields that are very well kept, and two playgrounds for young children. A large walking trail is along the perimeter of the farm, but you can also walk through the center. The park often holds community events to get people together. It’s very child and pet friendly.

  • Rami Safar

Really cool park with a fully functional farm. The museum displays historical artifacts from the early days of European settlement through the end of the agricultural Era in the Silicon Valley. There are playgrounds for kids, a paved walking trail and BBQ facilities. Docent led walks are available on weekends.

  • Aletia Cheney

Love this place. 1 lap is 2.5 miles on the outer perimeter path. Two trips and I've completed my daily minimum goal for exercise. The only downer is during the hot hours don't take your dog because the asphalt WILL burn their feet and their is no shade to be found when walking the perimeter path. …

  • Don Le

Great park. So glad the space was donated years ago and turned into agriculture education. Has several non profits running operations out of the park such as 4H and Our City Forest. Wonderful paved trail running around the whole park for runners, walkers, strollers as well as a small playground.

  • Judy Matthew

Roomy and spacious park with picnic area, 2.5 mile trail, playground and restrooms with nice Visitors Center. Be sure to read the outside time-line chart of this area. Park focus is on agricultural education and area includes Santa Clara County Master Gardeners Demonstration Garden and 4H farm.

  • Vanessa Jochman

Beautiful park with a perimeter paved trail that is great for running, walking, biking. Small Discovery park with farm animal figurines and a wooden climbing structure for little kids. There is a parking fee if you use the main entrance, but there's also plenty of parking surrounding the park.

  • Michael Shur

Great walking park with lovely community garden and event facilities. Local rangers are polite and helpful when you hold an event there. Plenty of egrets, herons, hawks as well as wildflowers and pepper trees. Walkable from Carson neighborhood, with clear walking path around the entire park.

  • Salvador Gonzalez

Great for walking or running. The foot/bike path is mainly flat. The path around the entire park is about 2.5 miles. There is a small playground in the middle of the park, but no slides. There are a few areas that you can use for a BBQ. They also have a farmers market on certain weekends.

  • Joe G

A farm Park in South San Jose is an incredible treasure for everyone. Over 2.5mi paved walking path with nice views. The bathrooms are clean. The visitor center is informative. There is a nice kids playground and plenty of seating on benches or the grass. No sports playing allowed.

  • Dino Legge

Okay so the park is new but the place has potential I would almost bet that the city or county will turn it into Apartments somewhere down the road maybe 25 years from now and I doubt Marshall Cottle would approve of the way it's being developed or should I say not being developed

  • Rita Torres

Paved path for walking 2.4 miles around the park past Master Gardner's garden, 4H animals, and the training area for Our City Forest. No shade on the walk but wonderful views of the Santa Cruz mountains and the Mt. Hamilton range, resident egrets and blue heron are thrilling!

  • Jacqueline Bogard

Recently attended the Park's Fall Festival and the Master Gardener's Fall Fair with free gardening classes, demonstrations, kid's activities table. The also sold cool weather veggies and ornamental plants at a good price. Can't wait for their Spring Garden Fair next April!

  • Larry S

Great big park with lots to explore. Has an santa clara valley agricultural theme to it, lots of green lawn, picnic spots. Plus University of California master gardener outpost where u can pickup veggies/plants for the South Bay climate (during plant sale days that is)

  • James Zucchi

Great modern facility. Clean bathrooms, innovative play structure area. Needs more shade trees. Parking was six dollars at harvest festival. Lots of fun hands on activities for the kids. I would come again next year, with a better picnic and cold drinks this time.

  • Jim Pacelli

What a beautiful place. A piece of heaven in the middle of the city. It must be a mile square. Just flat land with some buildings. So different than everything about it. You can get lost in nature. They might charge you $6.00 to get in... it still be worth it.

  • Thien An

I really like this park because it's huge, clean, with nice landscape. There are two kind of birds that I found here that I haven't found at many other parks are the Starlings and the Meadow Larks. Both are song bird. They charge $6.00 parking/entrance fee.

  • Bernardo Magana

Park has more and more foxtails and weed growth than years past along the outer park trails. My dog gets full of these all over and it's frustrating removing them all. However, there are beautiful sections of the trails that surprise and look scenic.

  • Darlene Brannen

Good walking park, playgrounds. Walking path in warm/hot weather is very uncomfortable. The park needs to add mature trees along the walking paths. Grateful the park was added to the area, and perhaps over time, it'll get more amenities.

  • David Albrand

Wonderdully open and very well laid out & planned. Things are well done, high end materials used. Playground is great. Pry the kids away, if you can. Perimiter walk/run/bike path even great for your 4 legged friends. Fitness & serenity!

  • Claire Cettel

They started charging for parking, but I love that it's a working farm now. Great place to walk or bike, good kids area and ok farm stand. Hopefully it will get bigger over time. There needs to be more farms like this, big or small

  • John Bronner

This is a wide open park. Perfect for running, walking and dog walking. If you got the time to mask up and enjoy the outdoors I highly recommend it. Please mask up when at this park...at least when going near other people.

  • Dori

For the most part this is a dry barren park. I was really disappointed that there weren’t more old farm buildings and stuff like that. There’s a small fun playground for kids. Not much for dogs to do. Not much shade.

  • Nathan Murata

LOTS of free parking on Chynoweth plus a paid parking lot in the center. Very popular with runners and walkers with dogs and kids. Bathrooms and tables in the middle of the park, plus a nice play area for children.

  • Mike Park

Beautiful setup. But the darn crosswalk is very disturbing to traffic as it doesn't use a timer per say it more of a i push button I stop traffic immediately thing rather than a safe light cycle.

  • Matt Olson

Really surprised to find this park an outstanding addition to our local open spaces. Well designed, pretty and super fun for the kiddies. Also low the history they've maintained. Recommended!
