There were no staff in sight when we needed help with an item. We grabbed a few items, wheeled the cart to the one cashier that was open, but there was what we thought was a customer, standing in front of him, taking quite a while to fill in some sort of pamphlet. All the while, the cashier was just standing behind the counter, seemingly doing everything possible to avoid eye contact with us. We would have at least appreciated a quick acknowledgment and maybe, "I'm sorry, I'll be with you in just a moment." The man in front of the cashier continued to fill in the pamphlet, and I admit, I started getting a little impatient so I moved our cart closer to that till. Still, the cashier gave us NO eye contact, but at least called for another staff member to come help us. Unfortunately, the other staff member was busy helping another customer in an aisle somewhere so no one showed up. STILL, no acknowledgment from the cashier. Then, I heard him ask the man in front of him if he wanted full or part time work! Are you kidding me?!? The entire time paying customers were standing there, waiting to give Petland our money, the employee couldn't have asked the applicant to move to a different area so he could ring our items through??? The staff person just stood there, doing NOTHING, while the guy was filling in the application. We were about to abandon the cart right at the till and exit the store empty-handed, but at that point another staff person came up to the till. I explained to her what happened and she was apologetic (even though it wasn't her fault) and professional. I felt badly for her. It's only because of her effort that I gave two stars. We are new to the neighbourhood and I was excited to find a pet store close to us. I'm not sure if I'll want to go there a second time after this. I'm sure a smaller, non-box store in the neighbourhood will want our money instead.

I am a loyal customer. With three dogs two tree frogs one lizard and two large fish tanks. I have spent ALOT of money here and today I spent over 700 on supplies. And I get a call from the manager saying they made a mistake and forgot to scan 4 plants and they wanted me to come back and pay for them spending my time and gas money to do so. My 4 year old daughter and I spent alot of time there today spent ALOT pateintly waiting for people ahead of us to be uneducated on buying a betta and set up and they needed lots of time,my daughter was trying to take a nap on the floor by the end. If they are perry enough to to call and bother a customer over a mistake they made at the till, then just Wow, at least the manager backed down after I said look if you are going to get hung up on 4 plants after I just spent over 700bucks then you are going to loose a customer. I was tired, worn out, trying to set up the supplies I had bought and take care of the fish I had just bought in their homes and they had the audacity to bug me about 4 plants . Doesn't matter how big or little the sale is, if you forget to scan stuff, you guys should eat it and leave your customers alone. Wow just wow. Right passed off . Its the closest pet store and I love the staff but I didnt know the management was so terrible. I hope they sort that out and get their customer service policy inline and don't inconvenience or bug customers at home iver their mistakes anymore. And if you are a customer and this happens to you dont be a push over, dont waste your time and gas and energy to correct their mistake. Also of the store is so petty that they take mistakes like that put of their minimum wage employees pockets then I certainly will never support petland again and ill be asking friends who work at various petlands and find out their policy on that.

TLDR: staff are great, but the store just doesn’t teach them the proper information about the animals. There’s a ton of mistreatment that goes unnoticed in the store. I occasionally go here after school, however, after a few visits, I found it to be quite a sad place to be. The products they sell for animals like fish, birds, and other small animals are often pretty inadequate. The cages for the birds are usually way too small for a parrot, they have tons of fish bowls (known for stressing fish out) and small fish tanks that are only suitable for a single beta fish, if even. The birds there also have rope perches that they frequently chew on, which is really bad for birds. Animals are frequently pretty stressed I found, and are pretty scared of people. The freedom for people to pet them and hold them is appealing to kids and parents, but the kids often don’t know how to handle the animals, and can scare them. The cuddle bowl idea is a good idea in theory, but forcing an animal to cuddle with you when it wants space is also stressful to it. They can’t run away and the boundaries they may try to set (by running away, nipping, hiding, or trying to appear scary/aggressive) aren’t respected. Nobody is told to respect the boundaries of animals in the store, because most people don’t know. This is a pretty big reason why there should be rooms to visit the animals, but also enclosed spaces for the animals to feel safe (like a proper cage/crate). I believe most of the animals, if not all, are rescues, and already may have trauma, and the stress from the environment would only worsen it. The store isn’t very good with pet care knowledge, however, this isn’t to any fault of the staff. The people here are lovely, the store just isn’t teaching workers and customers everything they should know about animals there.

Mainly used to come here for fish related merchandise, but don't think I will return here anymore. Their selection of plants and fish is great, and they seem to be kept in better condition than my local PetSmart (hence the 3 stars instead of 2), but the price gouging is getting a little out of control. A limited amount of fish and plants are reasonably priced, but in general expect to pay at least twice as much here for the exact same fish/plants than PetSmart, or even the notoriously pricey Pisces Pet Emporium. A few dollars more than other stores wouldn't be an issue, but twice as much is a bit ridiculous. Even with the 'members price' you can still expect to pay significantly more. Just some examples: Glofish Betta fish--> $53 vs PetSmart selling them for $33.99 Cherry Barbs--> ~$8 vs PetSmart selling them for $3.99 (and Pisces too) 1-2 grow cups--> $21 vs Pisces (and literally every other online and retail store) selling them for $12.99 ...and the list goes on. Even with BOGO fish and plant Fridays you'd still just be paying the same price as if you were to pay full price somewhere else. Yet, the last few times I've been here the sale isn't on as they cite 'low stock due to COVID', even though their tanks are completely full. Used to love coming here, but I definitely don't liked to be ripped off. If you are looking to buy fish and/or aquatic plants I suggest you shop around as you most definitely will save a pretty penny. I will not be returning to shop here unless as a last resort.

I am horrified. If I could give them no stars I would. I went into this Petland location planning on purchasing a bag of treats for my pup when I entered and saw a woman who was working there "playing" with a ferret. In reality she was tormenting the poor ferret and was grabbing him and tossing him and when he tried to bite her to escape her torture she laughed and said he was "just excited". It continued until he escaped and she chased and caught him and began violently shaking the poor creature. He was in so much visible distress he risked leaping from her grasp and falling to the floor in an effort to escape. She cornered him and he cowered shaking because he was so petrified. She ended up chasing him into a back area as he tried to hide from her. Needless to say I complained and left without buying anything but I was nearly physically sick in the pet store because I had never witnessed such horrific and inhumane treatment before. This store should be closed down and she should be arrested for animal cruelty. I will never step foot in that establishment again and I urge anyone reading this to do the same.

Much like the reviewer below, I had the same poor experience with their customer service... I purchased an anti-anxiety shirt for my dog here. When I was contemplating the purchase in-store with an employee I asked him "what would happen if I put it on my dog and it didn't make a difference, would you guys still take it back if it had been worn?" He said yes as long as it was within 30 days, and even recounted a story about another women who brought back a completely muddy item and was still given her money back. Long story short, my dog didn't take to the shirt and ripped it. (Obviously this is opposite of the desired effect - I'd like to add that the product has a 100% satisfaction guarantee). Receipt in hand, 9 days after the purchase I took it back and was denied my money back on the basis of it being ripped and that was against their policy, despite recounting to them about what the employee had informed me of. I would not have purchased this item had I known differently. I'm really disappointed. This is not good business and I will not be shopping here again.

My girlfriend and I spent 500$ buying a ferret and all of the necessities required and at that time we were provided good customer service. However, two days later we tried to return peanut butter flavoured treats that our ferret refused to eat (they specifically recommended these to us). They denied us an exchange for a different flavour of treat, we weren't even seeking a refund. The manager was rude when I later called for assistance on this issue, she even claimed they couldn't even use it for their own ferrets because of "allergies". That bothered us because we weren't even told that our ferret could be allergic to the treats they sold us, perhaps that's why our little guy wouldn't eat the treats... In the end all I'm trying to say is that once they got our money they did not care about us as customers and did not put in any effort in maintaining a good relationship with us. We are taking our buisness to Pisces pet emporium (which by the way has a higher rating anyways).

I adopted my bunny from the crowfoot location a year ago, she was given up for being “aggressive” and “unsociable” by the previous owners but I was set on her, she was 2 and it made me sad seeing the new babies be bought up around her... I took a chance and they assured me that I can bring her back any time because I guess they thought she was super mean? Let me tell you, this rabbit is a BABY! She loves giving kisses, being hugged, and always welcomes new people in the house... and she has never nipped me in her life. I have NO IDEA what the owners and staff were talking about because she is so angelic and such a sweetie. The staff were really helpful though and helped me find all of the stuff I needed to get started, but I wish they were kinder to give pets a second chance! I always come here to have her nails done and most of the staff recognizes me because I spoil her often haha so I’m over all really happy ❤️ Thank you, Crowfoot!

Second best per store in Calgary! (only second to Pices) The staff are the kindest people you will meet, they are always so welcoming, trusting, helpful, and knowledgeable. They will stay with you as long as you need and help answer any question you have, and they'll also give you advice and tips for pet ownership! This is the pet store where they allow you to pet and hold any of the animals, such as rabbits, hamsters, mice, gerbils, rats, chihuahuas, budgies, parrots, lovebirds, hedgehogs, guinea pigs, and so much more. They also have a cat room where you can play with friendly cats. There is also a fish room, with all the types of fish you can want, as well as turtles, snakes, tarantulas, etc. I love this pet store, and I go there very often, sometimes just for fun and to enjoy being around and handling the animals! The prices may be higher compared to some other stores, though.

A decent store to get some of the simpler items for caged animals, though anything a bit more unique - for example, I needed a rheostat to control a heatpad for a terrarium - I have to drive across town to Pisces for. When I come in for frozen reptile food, or aspen chips, etc, they always have it in stock and always provide good, friendly service. I have also purchased snails and shrimp for my fish tank, which generally are fine. The points do eventually add up and I sometimes save some money at the till. However, I have found that their fish are about 50 to 60% chance they'll survive more than a week or two; I know it's not my tank's chemistry because any fish I buy from Pisces always live good, long lives (as their various species go.) As such, I don't buy fish here anymore. I can't speak to their pricing or quality for dog supplies as I always get these at Pet Planet.

  • T Mah

I feel the name is a bit misleading. It's a decent corner store to get some simple and quick supplies. If your looking for something more of a specialty item my personal feelings are to source it from a specialty store that cateres to your pet or hobby. I will also add that for the price structure of the goods supplied I really do have higher expectations for excuses of pandemic, supply shortages, inflation, recession or what ever anyone wants to call it, I think as a consumer we can obtain better price points than to default to the general pet store. OCT, 2022. I would rate 2.5 stars but the system does not allow half stars and to round down to 2 stars is not My fairer than it is to force me to round up to 3.

Went to get some crickets, i was looking at the 3 week containers and every single cricket in about 7 different containers was dead. Someone asked if i needed help and i told her about all the dead ones so she looked inside one and said oh your right and put it back on the shelf and did nothing about it. They had no bulk crickets in stock so i found a 4 week container 50 count but there was only about 30 or so left alive, i wasnt about to pay for 50 when most of them were dead. They ended up calling a manager and he kept trying to get the container condensed but i told him multiple times that everything was dead. So finally after making him believe me i got 15% off.

What a joke! I'm shopping in the aisle and a employee walks towards me against the arrow and stands right beside me with a customer and his two children who are not wearing masks. I asked the employee why he was serving the customer without a mask and he said nothing. Then I spoke to the manager who said they "give staff the option of helping customers who aren't wearing masks if they feel comfortable doing so". How about the comfort level of other shoppers? There's a sign on the door that says masks are mandatory! It's the law in Alberta! I was shopping for a new pet and would have spent a couple hundred bucks instead they lost my business indefinitely!

  • Elise Wrubleski

The store itself is well kept and sells decent product, but the way animals are treated is awful. There are 20-30 budgies crammed into a cage hardly fit for five, are manhandled, and experience harrassment and lack of space issues. There are other such things in this store, but I am not an expert on anything else. Items here are decently priced, but can be a bit on the expensive side of occasionally. The customer service is solid, I have had no issues with it, and I have lived around and visited this specific location for many years. I hope all mistreated animals are able to go to good homes.

  • Darlene Scott

This is a well stocked store. Staff are friendly, but sometimes it can be hard to find someone to help you. My personal issue is almost anytime I need frozen rodents for our pet snake, it's hard to find someone to help get them from the back, or the only person who can help is busy with a customer and at times I have to wait 10 or more minutes. Why can't there be a self serve freezer like their competitor has where I can walk in and out with frozen rodents in hand in under 5 minutes? Petland is really close to my home, but I find myself going further away for better service.

  • Rachel Ward

Absolutely awful! I wish I could give a negative rating. Every time I've been there I have found an injured or sick animal and no one cared. They don't care about proper care and are extremely rude if you make suggestions (that are absolutely necessary to the animals health). They sell underage animals and lie about it. All of the wheels they sell are unsafe. Everything is overpriced. The staff isnt knowledgeable and very rude. Please don't support a store that allows animal abuse to continue and doesn't think proper care matters!!

  • Allan Rodbourne

The store has always been fine & I've been there lots of times over the years. Decided to get my old dog groomed there. Drove across the city and took time off work to get there. Due to hailstorms (2) and flooded streets along with unexpected construction I was 15 minutes late. Was flatly told by the groomer she couldn't do it as I was late & she was busy. Wow! What great customer service .... not. What business doesn't build wiggle room into appointment times? Don't worry about me being late next time - I won't be back....

  • Susan Dennis

Tried to get a replacement Kong Easy Treat can - not used and dysfunctional but over 1/2 hour waiting for the Manager to find when it was purchased!! I have no idea when I bought but shop here all the time (2 dogs). Was going to purchase over 200.00 worth of other product but left after they couldn’t find the specific purchase !! Left and lost purchase and Customer for life. Hope it was worth such a bad Customers experience !! Very disappointing the two sale people didn’t see the bigger customer service picture !

  • Positive Hopeful

A vile and inhumane torture store masquerading as a friendly pet store. Took my cat here to have her nails trimmed and hair brushed and the wretched employee shaved off my kitten's entire coat and left her severely traumatized. I was offered neither an apology nor a refund. Another time, during my kitten's nail trimming, the nasty pet groomer cut my cat's nails too deep. My Dad caught her applying pain medication to my cat's nails. This is perhaps the worst pet store in Calgary and its pet groomer is a monster.

  • Jim Sheasby

Today we went to PetLand to buy dog and cat food. The brand we purchase was sold out in the large bag that cost $71. Instead there was a smaller bag for $41 that was quite a bit more expensive per pound. We asked if they could discount this smaller bag to match the cost per kg of the larger bag. We were told no. So we took our business elsewhere. The story lost $120 worth of business per month from a loyal customer over a $10 discount on a bag of pet food. Seems like a store not interested in customer service.

  • Mia Ostere

The fish & reptile associate was very nice and informative, but was rather aggressive when retrieving the desired fish. The cashier that we had was quite rude and unenthused to be there. There was a snotty remark made under her breath that I didn't hear, but my boyfriend did when we were jokingly talking to the fish as it was very stressed out. The only reason why we were at this location was because they had the desired fish that we wanted after looking at various other Petland stores.

  • Justin Verburg

Honestly I was kind of "meh" about Petland for the last couple months - but an employee there named Tyla really helped me out with my current kitty - and also helped me adopt a super sweet cat named Edward. All of the good qualities she noticed about Edward were true and he is the best cat I could have hoped for. It was obvious she is genuinely passionate about animals and takes good care of them. She also gave solid advice about how to introduce my 2 kitties. Fun experience! :)

  • Vika B

Petland is a bit more expensive that other big box pet stores, however this location is very helpful with out aquarium. We wanted to set up a small aquarium for my daughter a couple of years ago and the nice people in the fish department taught us pretty much everything we needed to know and have continued to be accommodating every time we go in, whether that is with questions or to make purchases. Great location and much better with fish than the other nearby big box pet store.

  • James R. Sasser

Wonderful experience at this store! I was looking for some fish for my friends birthday since they always wanted there own fish tank. And I don’t know to much about fish but this lovely man came over named Quentin and told me everything and anything I needed to know! He helped me pick up the correct size and even told me what fish can co habitat! He even almost convinced me to get a snake!!! All and all he was an amazing worker and I will come again just because of his help!!

  • Diana J

We have visited this location about 4 weeks ago and we are still very impressed with the staff who works there. We had Jack help us out to adopt a hamster and I cannot say enough good things about this person. Jack was very empathic, understanding, and easy going. We were provided with vast amount information and unlike other petland locations, we did not feel overly pressured to purchase things we did not need. Thank you for all your help, our little hamster is doing great!

  • David Scott

The store was better when my sister worked there years ago when they actually sold cats and dogs. Staff weren’t as helpful as compared to the Pet Planet in the area. Yes Pet Planet is the place I would go to get what my pet needs. Don’t worry if they don’t have what you need in the one store they for sure will have it in their other larger store in Royal Oak. That’s right Pet Planet Crowfoot and Pet Planet Royal Oak where the staff are knowledgeable, helpful and kind.

  • Lynda Erker

I have a bearded dragon so I get him horned worms from petsmart usually but since they were out I thought I'd try petland crowfoot since that's the only other pet super near me, not only were the worms $1.00 more per making the overall cost $2.67 each, but I also had to track an employee down even though there was 3 of them standing around talking while I waited, eventually I got the worms and woke up the next morning to all of them dead... will not go back!

  • Carina Kwok

Staff are friendly and helpful finding things. It can be hit or miss finding someone with specific breed knowledge but some suggestions that I've received for my dog (a tiny breed but strong chewer) have been good ones. The dog enjoyed the toys and didn't chew through them too fast. Great selection. I appreciated the flexible return policy as I searched for a dog food that my pup would enjoy, and later a harness that fit properly. Good variety of items.

  • Charis Lynn

I saw a child of around 8-10 years old shaking cats and generally abusing the animals. Instead of getting mad at the child, the employees attempted to help him by informing him how to properly hold the creatures. After refusing, he was politely escorted out of the store. My biggest problem with pet stores is that often the customers are put above the animal's wellbeing. It is great to see a pet store actively protecting the animals they house.

  • Sydney Lehman

This pet land is absolutely outrageous and disgusting, so many of the fish are sick. The staff knows nothing and when you buy an animal they rush through the adoption process, they tell you nothing you need and what the fish needs to have a healthy life. They do not properly take care of their animals and some of the staff was very nice but the others extremly rude. Not coming back to this petland again they do not care for their animals!!

  • Erick Rubio

Literally refused to sell me a beta fish that they keep in a small cup because I refused to be up sold on a 5 gallon fish tank for 89.99 the ridiculous part Is that I was trying to get a small table tank that had a picture of a beta fish inside the tank but he insisted was too small and that I either got a larger tank or I wouldn’t be sold the fish. Worst business ethics I’ll make sure to share my experience with friends and family.

  • Cory Hutchins

We took our Small daughter here to look at the fish and other animals. It is a well laid out store with a ton of options for any pet you might have. It is a little on the expensive side but most stores don't have live animals that you can interact with so I could see that being a cause of the slightly higher prices. Has knowledgeable staff and definitely a one stop shop for anything you could need for your pet, whatever it may be.

  • Matthew Wright

I bought bird seed from this location a month ago, they asked me what type of bird I had, and I selected a parrot. I thought this would mean I would be able to get a parrot, and yet, I have seen no birds grown from the seeds they sold me. I have tried everything, including multiple pots and soil types, but no. I got a peanut once, but still no birds. Very dissatisfied. Lovely staff though, but they did sell me a faulty product.

  • Adam E

My partner and I stopped in to take a quick peek at the fish tanks but was quickly distracted by all the colorful and friendly critters. The very very friendly staff were socializing the birds and chatted to us about the various types and their quirks and personalities. We spent half an hour enraptured by all the furry companions and the kind staff. Love to visit but dangerous because we just wanted to take all the cuties home.

  • Shauna Thompson

Customer care is good in the store, and I've always found all types of critter enclosures to be clean, well cared for, and nice to look at. They have a nice selection of pet items, and prices are fair (though not great). I do have an issue with their frozen mice though... Any time I've gone in to buy "fuzzies" for our snakes I get a wide/random range of sizes, some of which are way to big for my snake, thus a waste of money.

  • Artemii Epifanov

Not related to the business, but to their ethics. I had 2 birds fell off the nest next to my house. I didn't know what to do and my first idea was to call PetLand. They said they would take them in and hand over to Calgary animal services. When I came to the store I was told that this is not something they are going to do and I should be dealing with Calgary Animal services myself. So much for ethics and love for animals...

  • Rene Rousseau

Not a big fan of the place. I dislike watching kids and adults mishandling the animals, especially the small animals like the gerbils and hamsters. No staff watching the interactions that the animals have with the customers or correcting bad handling. They also sell a lot of bad and too small habitats without informing customers of proper housing for certain animals. The fish and reptiles area is probably the best part.

  • Mike Dufour

This the best Pet Store I have ever been in. They will help you shop throughout and load your order into cart and car. Wonderful people who are very knowledgeable and just want to help. Not sell you things you don't need. We usually get served by the same wonderful young lady who actually told us; that we were her favourite customers. We are seniors and do appreciate this kind of service so very much.

  • Tim Downing (BOT Roger)

They are a typical large pet store. They have lots of selection, with an especially good selection of fish, reptiles, birds, and ferrets. We've bought small animals here before and they are often more stressed because the cages are open and the pets can be played with by the public. Their "Pet counsellors" are about the same as any large pet store, so do your own research before going to buy a pet.

  • Ash R

I only go when I have too. I have 2 cats, a dog and a hamster. I needed some wet tail drops for my hamster and I couldn’t find them. For how large of a pet store it is you would think there would be someone to ask. Nope! Nobody in sight. So I ended up buying some digestive treats. 20 dollars.... ridiculous prices. I go to pet planet for all my cat and dog needs. They are way friendlier and cheaper.

  • Sarah Shaw

We had such a lovely experience at this location. The manager, Adeel helped us find a tank heater for our little beta. He even went so far as to offer to drive to another location and bring it back north for us. Adeel’s Excellent service left us both feeling very excited about our new fish. It is evidently clear that Adeel takes a lot of pride in his work. I would highly recommend this location.

  • Kayla Ann

I always love coming here. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable and we've adopted 2 animals from here, including a rescue cat this past weekend. The animals are always happy, healthy and clean. I love that we always get offered assistance, even if we just ran in for pet food, so refreshing compared to other establishments where you can't find an employee to save your life. Great location!

  • Flairs Warss

The staff in the fishes section were the worst I have ever seen we told them were members of the store but refused to disclose the member price and when we went to checkouts they had to be paged to update the price what a waste of time rather trust the customer or have a system to confirm the membership. The store itself is small with the pets section only getting the most attention.

  • Laura T

Large selection of dog and cat supplies, helpful staff, usually well stocked. Prices are not low, but if you join the membership, prices are more reasonable. I do not recommend purchasing live animals as pets from chain stores, and not every product on the shelves is a good one, but I've always received honest answers to my questions and good suggestions from staff when asked.

  • Helena Falk

Staff are really friendly and store is nice, but everytime I've tried to purchase an item on sale, it shows up at the regular price. It's always a big process to get the price corrected, staff have to confirm the sale, call a supervisor and manually adjust it. Yesterday it took 3 staff to get the price to scan accurately. Frustrating to go through the same issue every time.

  • Ember

The staff are very helpful! Especially with new small animal owners. I remember when I got my first hamster there they were really helpful! they even suggested not getting a tiny critter trail cage and opting for a rabbit cage,Which I think is pretty impressive for a petstore. They obviously know what they’re doing especially for smaller animals I recommend shopping here

  • James M

The store has gone down hill. Never have I walked in to a store that I have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars in. and felt so unwelcome Head manager rolled her eyes up at several of my 70 year old mother's questions. felt belittled by her. Will never spend 1 more $ there. GO SPEND YOUR MONEY WHERE YOU WILL BE RESPECTED NOT AT THIS TRASH BIN ESTABLISHMENT

  • Natalie Robinson

I just came from this particular pet land. I must say today was not a good day. The rabbit cages were very dirty, the ferrets had empty water dishes and the litter box is definitely not cleaned out enough. The budgies are all biting each other and seemingly scrapping. I hope this was just a one off day but the care of the animals seems lacking today.

  • Kayla Davidson

This was my first time visiting Calgary and a Petland and it won't be the last! The highlight was taking a peek in the fish room and talking with the lovely Kim about some of her favorite breeds. It's always nice to speak with someone who is so passionate and enthusiastic about what they do. Thanks Kim and Petland! I wish there was one in my area!

  • Vyta-Dorlyna Maurice Brown

The people working there are really nice. I've gone there probably 8 times and during those 8 times I still get treated nicely and get help when needed. This one girl was really nice enough to tell me tips on how to set up my turtle tank. I regret not getting her name, but she really was of big help and made sure I got enough tips before I left.

  • Sarah Carefoot

I needed cat food. I wanted to find something that wasn't too expensive but still a decent quality. One of the staff came over to me and was incredibly helpful. She had lots of information and helped me find a food that seemed to fit my criteria. It was a great experience. It's nice when there are staff available to help with a purchase.

I had to chase someone down to get assistance and the Gent was less than helpful and seems quite annoyed that I would bother him even though he didn't appear to be busy doing anything. The ladies at the front cash we're very sweet and helpful though. It was one of the smaller Petland that I've been to and the stock was very minimal.

  • Alex Khourieh

Okay experience. Some workers there will tell you where to find something but won't actually help you look even if you ask. Very weird way of selling. But their paychecks don't depend on a sale. Adding some sort of commission system or bonus system like Pisces: Pet Emporium will help with the stores sales and customer service.

  • Genevieve Johner

One of my favourite Petlands to visit! The staff are very friendly and attentive. The only thing that concerned me was the state of the "playroom" for the cat. The floor and toys seemed very dirty, but I chalked it up to it was likely close to the end of the play session, where it would be cleaned afterwards.

  • Devi Boyle

Went in for bird nail clip. For whatever reason, I was not allowed in to help as my birds are a lot calmer with people they know. Birds are very quick to have heart attacks. I now know to ask for a Manager if I'm being denied in the future. Staff should be able to accommodate these requests. Nuff said

  • Angelica Toy

The store has tons of stuff and the manager is super nice. But I called them one morning to ask them if they had any surrender budgies and they said they had 2. When I got there and asked them where they were they said they didn't have any. That pissed me off so much cause I drove 45 mins for this.

  • Lex

The staff are so helpful and kind at this location, I highly recommend going!! I went here to buy birthday gifts for my dog and I found more than enough toys and treats that he loved! You can tell that the staff are really passionate about animals and care about every customers experience here.

  • Tina Petersen

Good selection but they still do sell live animals which pulls them several rungs down my quality index. Some of the staff is very knowledgeable about animal care. All of staff can help you locate a product in store. The store was reorganized last year and this has made checkouts very fast.

  • Kristina Kachur

Friendly staff and a wide variety of things to buy for your lovely pets. I especially fell in love with ferrets. Such cuties. I just hope they are provided with all special things and enough space to act like zoomies sometimes. Recommend this store. One of the best Ive been to so far

  • Tim&Tink MacKay

Came for a birthday party (didn't even know that was a thing) and it was great. The kids got to hold and touch a number of different animals. And they even provided gift bags for them afterwards. Carlos was great with the kids. Would absolutely consider it for a birthday party

  • abby gerschwiler

I was just in this morning (Wednesday) & had the BEST interaction with Jordan! She is so awesome, knows a lot about each animal & so very kind! You can tell she loves her job! Can’t say enough good things about her. The other fellow at the cash was awesome too! Great team!

  • Greg

Absolutely abhorrent reptile treatment. Putting a chameleon into a glass enclosure with sub 30% humidity is torture. Look at the photo. I beg you to go to a breeder or a pet store like Pisces who at least somewhat++ care about their animals. Stick to fish please.

  • Jenna Avery

Went there to adopt a hedgehog. The staff was very helpful and supportive, they showed us everything we need to know and have. 2 days later they phoned to check up on us and our hedgehog and were very helpful at putting our mind at ease surrounding the behaviours

  • Nicole K.

Kim in fish & reptile has been extremely knowledgeable as well as helpful about the fish I’ve been interested in and helped me find ones best suited for my tank. I’m happy to say many of them have stuck around for the past half year so far . Thanks for the help !

  • Scott Baker

This store has been here for a long time and not much has changed there. The interior is very big box retail and staff can be hard to find sometimes. If i come here it is because its easy and close to me but I wish they would make some more updates to the store.

  • Captain RedShirt

We went to grab some shampoo for our dog and needed something gentle. Someone noticed I looked a little lost so she came to help and things got a lot easier. Great layout, helpful staff, and lots of product options. I'll definitely shop there again!

  • Abbey Lawrence

Generally has a good selection of pet food and pet care items. Usually well stocked and staff is helpful. Not sure the quality of fish and small pets, as I've never purchased one. They no longer sell bred cats or dogs, only rescues, so that's cool.

  • Madhu Khan-Thakuri

The staff here need to learn how to properly take care of animals. Many of the animals I saw did not have enough food nor was their cages clean. I don't think any of those animals have had the right nutrients that they should. That is animal abuse.

  • Sal Walker

Best store for all your pets needs!! They have an amazing selection if your looking for that first time furry addition to your family as well! I have a German Shepard and a tabi and they both love their local petland! As do their parents :) 10/10

  • andrew Hoard

5 years ago I had a staff member here cause a major issue with me and I never went back for 5 years. Today the the staff went above and beyond to fit both my cats for harnesses and held my dog while we did it. Highly recommend this place now.

  • Carrie G

Easily the worst pet store in Calgary. First off, their animals are so poorly cared for it's appalling. I can't count the number of times I've seen sick, dying, or dead animals up for sale. A good 80% of their bettas have severe cases of

  • Adil Dhanani

Adeel is a fantastic manager, Carlos too! They have helped us for a few years with all our pets. The store is always clean and organized. All the staff are really knowledgeable and if they don't know the answer they'll find out for you.

  • Mandie

The staff here are so friendly and so knowledgeable. They are really willing to spend time to make sure you're informed and your questions are answered. They were so helpful with making sure I was successful with my first aquarium.

  • Different Saurus

Two of the female staff working here at the Crowfoot Petland on 12 Jan 2018 around 12:30pm doesn’t know how to behave with humans, so, I am very doubtful how they would take care of the animals. I found them as extremely rude and

  • Josh U

The staff all seem to be friendly and knowledgeable. The store also has a good product selection. The only reason I give them a 3 star rating is their prices. I find them considerably more expensive than other places in Calgary.

  • Green Bean

It's nice! They always know how to help with what you're asking, and are able to get you a deal on an animal to make sure it ends up in a good home. They take good care of the animals there. The whole place has a positive vibe.

  • George Klassen

Carlos (and all the staff really) were ever so helpful in helping us today. As first time kitten owners, we had a lot of questions. You can tell the staff here genuinely love animals. Great customer service. …

  • Christian Schlueter

Warren helped us out yesterday and gave really good customer service. He answered all questions and provided useful information. And he greeted our dog and made him work for some treats. Happy puppy! Thanks Warren!

  • Roberto Raposo

I called in asking if they sale frogs, somebody said was going to check because she didn't know, she never come back, I called again, same lady answered and she played like she wasn't her. Terrible customer service.

  • Robert Dixon

Great location with very helpful staff. Excellent management! One of the managers let me in after hours to buy food for my pet when I wasn't able to get there during regular hours. Won't shop anywhere else.

  • Janice Loubert

Good selection, but do your research before you go. Lady didn't really know what she was talking about and told me my vet was wrong. I will trust my vet any day of the week over someone in a big box store.

  • Zachary Hull

Decent pet store, I usually prefer smaller pet stores but petland has a large selection of toys, food, treats and pet accessories. My beautiful border collie loves her Frisby we bought from here.

  • Danielle Walker

A young man named Matthew helped me this evening find basic supplies for a new kitten . He was amazing! super nice super helpful, even scooped feeder fish for me with a smile! Great experience!

  • Jamie Lindsay

Have never had a bad experience. All the employees have been very helpful, they are usually in stock, and have a great selection. Prices are a bit high, but they can carry higher quality stuff.

  • Amanda Edwards

Great place for food and products, they seem to treat their animals well and they seem healthy. All the fish I have got from here have lived and are still very healthy a year and a half later.

  • Kirsten DeMille

I bought a bunny here a short while ago (who unfortunately didn't make it through spay surgery). However, they told me that she was a male bunny, which she wasn't. The vet had to tell me.

  • Talis Tahan

I have made many purchases from this store, the staff is helpful and kind. Sometimes though they are nowhere to be found for Thai reason I give them four stars. A good pet store overall!

  • Margot Bernardy

The staff is always welcoming, acknowledging you. Super friendly with my kid as well which is heartwarming. The store is well organized and the animals are well taken care of. Good job!

  • Mary

My kids favourite place. Staff are helpful and friendly. I got one bad experience with them last year but I am happy now that they are improved. Come and meet your lovely cutie pets !

  • M Huncho

Never any employ available. Have to wait around 20 kids just to get food for the pet. The staff is not bad it's just that there 6 people working and all of em always busy.

  • George Pinel

The staff was friendly and shared with us what some of the strange fish were and where they came from. Picked up what we needed for our dog and left with a smile.

  • Jacob Jenkins

Stopped by today for an aquarium heater and some Malawi Cichlid babies for our new tank. Knowledgable and friendly staff made it a pleasant experience all around!

  • Don McSwiney

Even during the Covid epidemic, the friendly staff were so accommodating and got my parrot in for a quick wing clip. Always had a great experience there!

  • Jenna Wilson

Large selection of cute animals. All of the cats are rescued from different shelters and streets which makes me more likely to adopt one.

  • Cam Smith

Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Only issue is its a bit pricey.. my cats food is 30 cents more per can at Petland compaired to Pet value.

  • jomin joe (Joegraph)

Good staff. Most of them are knowledgeable about pets. I was looking for a particular betta fish for a gift they had them in stock.

  • Ashley Gallant

I am changing my review to 2 stars from one as I did get some assistance this time during my visit even though it was very rushed.

  • Jace Grandmaison

Friendly people and I really enjoyed all the sea life as well as one of the only places around with a petting area

  • Jose de Jesus Meza

I don't remember the name of the girl who was showing us the snakes and other super friendly more people like her

  • Todd Jackson

Great prices, and people. Purchased a few.guinea pigs and was very helpful. Very busy place over the holidays.
