BUYER BEWARE - We have been coming here for some time now to get food for our pets. They have a loyalty program, buy so many bags of a certain pet food, get one free. The problem is, you never get one free. We had been told our previous two visits that the next bag is free. Initially, we chalked it up to us misunderstanding what they said the last time. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. We kept the receipt the next time as we grew suspicious. We were right to. See the receipts below - it’s clear as day their system is a fraud and false advertising. We will never shop here again, just out of principle. I don’t appreciate dishonesty. UPDATE - September 15, 2023 I was hoping to update with positive news as I had a discussion with the owner after my initial review. She advised she would put aside my cat food for me to pick up. I advised her that I did not intend to pick up more cat food as I literally just bought some. She it would be there when I’m ready. I sent my mother in law to pick up the cat food today, as I am working, not only did the bag not get put aside, they don’t even have any of his brand in stock!!!! This could have been resolved at the time of our purchase in August, instead, this owner advises that she does not authorize her staff to make any decisions (which would have avoided the first review), as she makes them all. Micromanaging never gets the job done properly. If you don’t trust your staff, you should do it all yourself. We are DONE with the dishonesty and absolute disregard of this owner.

Love Ruffins! The Ruffins brand all-natural dog food is amazing and super affordable (considering its amazing quality). We've had our boxer on it for 7 years and his 1 year old son on it since the very beginning for both of them; they are both 90-100 lbs of pure muscle. The mom, our 4.5 year old shepherd-mix, as been on it since we got her 2 years ago. She has never looked healthier, both weight and coat. *****BONUS - When you purchase their brand, every 10th bag you get a bag of equal size for free!! Great incentive!!***** The staff are very friendly, helpful, and always remember us. There is always some sort of animal in the store, and support their community quite a lot which is nice to see. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is because they seem to be out of their brand of food a lot and keep changing the prices and quantities (price increase, quantity decrease). Kind of frustrating considering we've been avid supporters of the store and their food for 7 years and have switched a lot of our friends and family to the brand.

I had my first visit here last week, and it was nothing less perfect. Note: If you buy 10 bags of dog/cat food, you'll get the 11th free!! With that being said, I read a few reviews before writing mine.. One had complained about the fact that no employee had came upto them and tried to sell anything to them, and no employee had addressed them when they were looking at one of the bunnies they were interested in. Personally, this was something I liked. No one had came upto me and bugged me while browsing.. And if I had any questions, I would have went upto one of them and asked. This isn't PetSmart where the employees are told to try and sell the customer their products even if the customer had not approached them. They had a great selection and great prices on many things I was most interested in. And being as it's so close to home, it has completely won me over for all of my pet care needs! Thanks for the awesome experience guys! I unfortunately wasn't able to come in today before closing, but I'll indubitably be in tomorrow!

As a first time visitor to the store, I made my way in this morning at 1130am. Two women are working behind the counter, one woman stocking the aquatic section and one woman in the back right corner of the store mostly just looking at products even though she works there. I was able to walk the entire store without any of them addressing me in any way. The selection in the store is poor, half the shelves were empty although the lighting was good. Was interested in the lionhead rabbit and stood by the enclosure for some time. No one came. I would have had a more fulfilling experience shopping online and their prices were not great. So what exactly are they offering to get me in the door? Because they sure weren’t doing anything to get me to buy anything let alone return to their store? Very poor experience.

Everyone here is always so nice. I came in with questions about my zebra finches because one of their eggs hatched and I was curious if there was anything I could do. The young guy there told me not to disturb them at all snd try to be quick and quiet when refreshing their food and water. They also have a lot of patience there because I like to go in and hold all the bigger animals when I'm feeling down. The cats snd the bunnies. They let me interact with them all. My family doesn't usually buy our cat food here but we do get the bird food here. If we are low on catfood and don't have time to go elsewhere we just go up the street here. They always gone something good for my spoiled and picky cat.

Do not buy live fish here. I am an experienced aquarist and yet everything, and I mean everything I've bought from this shop ends up dead in less than 72 hours. Im talking, dish die on the ride home sometimes and i live 15 minutes away. I'm fuming because I just accidentally decimated my whole tank with a guppy with oodinium. My entire tank is contaminated and my school is infected. I keep giving them chances as they're the only local fish shop near me but after dozens of dead snails, shrimp and fish I'm just pissed. My tank is cycled, understocked and new (less than a month old) and now I have to tear everything down and sanitize it, plus losing my entire tank of inhabitants is so upsetting.

Igotta say this is one of the best pet store in Hamilton!Always new products for my fur baby for health and grooming and food!no past due food always fresh.Every one here are informative any I mean any question i ask.If you have any problems including training they will give you suggestions and ideas because they care and most have babies of their own.No matter how busy the store is the staff will always help you.To my fur baby this is the TOY STORE.The owner must sleep here because she is always there.Very seldom she is not.If you have a problem with anything they will repair the problem and you always are happy when you leave as well as happy when you are in the store!!!!!

This place is disgusting. They promote a free bag of dog food after a 12 bags. Last time I went in there they said I was one away, my friend was there to hear them say it. I now go in there and they tell me in 7 bags away. I’m guessing business is slow and they don’t want to give out promised free bags, I unfortunately have spent my money with them for 4 years. When I asked them why they are running this scam to get more business out of people, They said they offered the 13th bag complementary and are not obligated to give a bag if they don’t want to. hopefully no one else gets scammed by these liars, there is a pet store on Wellington and main they are lovely.

Cute little pet shop with a good variety. Does not just cater to dogs and cats, but has some great options for rabbits and other small animals. Oxbow products, which we trust for our rabbits, are available here and for standard prices. The one thing that I was surprised about was the lack of hay feeders in this section. Especially given that hay was sold at this location, it was surprising to find out that there was nothing sold to put it in. Service was great, location is just off the Main Street so convenience is great. And they have a great loyalty program which will reward frequent shoppers with a free bag of hay for example, after so many purchases.

I came in looking for a dog cot and stumbled over this really cool slip lead that’s super durable and has the perfect feel for professional use. Saw a lot of other gems scattered around too! Tbh, the leash wasn’t why I felt compelled to leave a review. I’m really here to give praise to the super friendly and knowledgeable staff member Alanna who couldn’t have been a bigger help. She’s truly a fantastic ambassador for the store as a whole. As a result, I’ve made an account with them and from now on I’ll be doing to my weekly purchases there and will highly encourage my dog training clients to do the same! I bought this guy today, he is in bad shape, and I knew that when buying him. The Bettas have fungus infections and ammonia burns. I tested the water when I got home and the ammonia level was over 8ppm. Basically all those Bettas are dying a slow and painful death. Get a fish expert in to look after the fish in the store. Not just remove the dead ones. These infections can be prevent by simply changing the water in the Betta cups every day. A 20 minutes solution to killing fish or selling sick fish to people. I bought this one knowing he is sick, just so he didn't die there. Be better at caring for animals or hire someone who knows how to.

Absolute horrible experience with the groomer. I have a puppy who has black nails and brought her in to get her nails clipped. The groomer clipped at least 3 of them to the point they were bleeding. When he came out with her I noticed blood on his hands and had to ask if she was ok which he replied he clipped 1 too short. His reasoning was that she was “wiggly”. When I inspected her further that’s when I noticed he had clipped 2 others to the point of bleeding. He tried to hand her off to me with one still bleeding which I made him get the powder to stop it. I reluctantly paid him but will never go back or recommend him to anyone.

Was actually a lil disappointed.. the girl told me all guppies were by one get one free. What she didn't tell me was u had to buy two of the same even tho they were all the same price (almost all of them) and didn't have anything else I needed. So when I left I paid for 6 fish and two algea eaters 39$ should have been $15 for the guppies and 10 for the algea eaters.. but she charged me for each guppy with no BOGO.. and the one girl was very agressive with catching them, one died before I got home I like the place but they need to be more knowledgeable able their products and about their animals/fish

Ok pet shop not alot of selections for hamsters for my daughter though they only had one available out of all the ones we seen, when we got to see one of the hamsters I had asked if it was a Male or female and the lady didn't know how to tell if it was a girl or boy she told me it was a Male but once I went home and double checked it was actually female. We got the hamster anyways even though it wasn't the kind she wanted unfortunately I will have to make the trip up the mountain to get her a new one that she really wants and keep little iris for my youngest daughter.

What a wonderful team they have there!! Lana does the grooming for my dog, and she is absolutely PERFECT! The way she treats my dog , and her expert grooming skills- assure me my dog is in excellent hands. I have never been disappointed. As for the team in the store front - EXCELLENT! Alannah is absolutely wonderful. Her knowledge with products, personal customer service and skills are well deserved of a review here! All the staff, really, have continuously impressed me. As I've shared in my media, I brought my lil guy Goliath ( my 3 year old ball python) , even before bringing him on my person , I phoned ahead to ask if such a thing was possible.. to my surprise ( and quite humerously) I found out that all walks of critter life have come in as they are.. this , and in the past few times I've come in, I was welcomed by such a fun, and compassionate team.. ! They're knowledge was top notch! I 100% encourage everyone to come by and meet such amazing people! -- 5 stars, that's not enough! 20 stars!

This store used to be so well run! They have recently changed most of their staff and it was a mistake. They are always talking to each other and ignoring customers. I haven’t been able to buy my regular dog OR cat food here in weeks. It’s not an obscure food, it’s ACANA. Ordering issues happen, I understand... but not every week. The young man that I’ve spoken to multiple times now about the food not being there is unapologetic. I spend a good deal of money here or rather, I used to. You’ve lost a customer... Get it together.

Great place, friendly and helpful staff. I came in looking for dog food that advoided certain ingredients and stayed within a calorie range. One of the staff started to pull out bags and begin checking information with me and since the store was not very busy at that time the other staff member helped by looking up any brand I had questions about. Everyone is always friendly, very helpful and honest with answering your questions. This is my regular go to pet store, and my dog loves coming here.

Went to the store a few weeks ago and wanted to buy a snail. Since none of Liz's employees arrived yet, she didn't want to stick her hand in the tank and prep for sale so she told me I should come back days later, to buy a snail. that I could see sitting in the tank with my own eyes. not to mention the severely poor care of the fish here in general with dead ones visible everytime I go. she's a bad fish keeper and should not be selling live fish.

My dog and I had a blast here, picking out treats and toys together was so much fun! The ladies who were working at the time, gave my dog, Bandit some samples of treats as I told them that he’s super picky. Overall a great experience and the girls went above and beyond to make sure me and my fur baby left feeling exceedingly satisfied and happy with our purchases! ⭐️⭐️P.S. Skunked x two. Both my dogs got sprayed yesterday morning. Unfortunately I was working and couldn't looked after the smell until the afternoon. I did some research on my own and it said SOS was one of the more effective ones. I called Ruffins and they sales representative answered all my questions and said she totally recommends SOS products. This morning not a smell in the house or on the dogs. SOS I am a believer! Thanks Ladies at Ruffins!!

Great customer service with a welcoming staff and they go above and beyond to make sure the food you're buying meets your pets' dietary restrictions! I usually buy from Oven Baked Tradition and I wasn't sure if the particular bag I was looking at was going to accomodate my cats so the employee spent a good few minutes searching to make sure for me. They also had lower prices than I've seen the brand go for anywhere else so that's a big plus!

This place is fantastic! Everyone that works at the store is super helpful and so kind. During these crazy covid times it's nice to know you can count on this store. I called with a bit of a random request because we're moving and they were able to help out with everything and over the phone no less. Everything was ready when we showed up. It was very easy. Highly recommend you call them first for anything you need.

I've taken my dog here a few times since we just moved into the area a few months ago, each time the staff always adknowledges my dog and I and assist us with any questions I have. There selection isn't that great and the prices on some stuff are not reasonable but if your just going in there for treats and food then that's the go to place, the staff are wonderful and that's what keeps me coming back!

I always bought my dog food here and got great service, but I have since added two guinea pigs to my home both from Ruffins. They not only just sell them to you they are so knowledgeable about their care and feeding. You can even tell how much they love and care about the pets in the store. I would for sure highly recommend them to anyone who wants to shop in a place when they know their stuff

I was coming here for three years and I love it here, the service is phenomenal, they have everything your pet wants, are needs, the prices are great, my dog Duke just love going in there just to great the staff Alannah, Jewels , and Liz are always there to serve your needs, I buy all my food, and treats there every time. It's great for buying toys, food, litter and pet supplies. The staff is okay, some employees are nicer than others. Buying fish here is spotty though, its usually a 50/50 chance they survive or die. Most of the fish I've bought here lived for a week or so before dying. Grooming part does a great job. Its still a good pet store but doesn't compare to others.

Amazing customer service! I moved into the area almost half a year ago, and decided to try out Ruffins since it it so close to my home. After my first time there I knew I’d be shopping there long term! Everyone is so friendly and helpful, they really make you feel welcomed to their store! Always has everything I need at far prices. They also have a member ship rewards system which isn't to bad could be better but it is what it is. Also deals on food and shavings buy so many bags and you get 1 free. They also have a discount shelf that has good products on it. Love this store I've been shopping there for 10 years. Ruffins is a great place for all pets I needed dog food barely had any dog food for a rescue dog mastiff I took in and ruffins took great care of my bodene mastiff they helped me when we needed it they are great freindly and they look out for all dogs and neighbour hood. They have quarantined off the front of the store so you have a warm place to wait with your dog while picking up orders. When I arrived I also asked if they had another product which needed to be fitted and they were super helpful. They have very good products. Way better than Amazon, which are dollar store by comparison.

This place has changed quite substantially over the years and I was amazed at how nice it is now. The owner was super friendly, she introduced me to her beautiful birds this morning. The Love and Care that goes into this place shows. Its Very clean and Bright. The New fish tanks look amazing. I am impressed.

With all due respect to the customer representatives, whom I'm sure are doing their best and mean no malice, you have to be honest & candid if you aren't sure about something (like a particular species in their aquatic tank). Feigning confidence could put an animal's life in danger. Buyer beware.

Booked an appointment with Lana the groomer to trim our dogs nails. She is wonderful! so kind and patient and our dogs really seemed to love her as well. It was such a positive experience we look forward to future visits and I'd recommend anyone to go see her she's so great with the fur babies :)

Visited Ruffin's for the first time today and not only did they have the cat food I've been hunting down, but they also provided great customer service with sanitation and social distancing in mind. Will be returning with my cat for grooming services once everything opens up and back to shop!

Great store, great staff. Been coming there for the past three years and love every moment. The people at Ruffin’s genuinely care about your pet. They cried with me when I had to put my miniature schnauzer down. They welcomed my Chihuahua with open arms. I can’t recommend the store enough.

There has been a dead fish in the plastic viewing containers for three weeks. Went to buy a betta, spotted it and decided there obviously isn't care put into the fish. Went back a few weeks later for other pets and the dead fish was still there. Disgusting.

Lana is by far the best groomer I've ever had. She always takes great care and time when it comes to dropping of my Aussie...there is no need to worry or ever look into going anywhere else....I'd recommend to anybody to trust in her wth your fur babies

Friendly and helpful staff. However, years ago I bought a kitten and he passed away the next day. I asked for a refund or a new kitten and I was refused. I am not sure if they still have this policy because I don't buy pets from there anymore.

My favourite pet store in town. Very good selection, they carry high-quality stuff, and the staff are knowledgeable, helpful and polite. I think things might be a bit more limited if you're not into cats or dogs, but I am so it's a non-issue

Friendly and helpful staff. It is easy to book grooming for pets. Has primarily basic pet supplies. There are some small animals for sale and a few kittens and one or two puppies as well as fish and reptiles.

Love this place. Been getting supplies for my home zoo for years here. Prices are competitive, stock is good, staff are great and their car litter is affordable and the best quality for clay/clumping litter.

Amazing store . Found all the chew toys for my tiny dog that I couldn't find at the other pet stores. The staff were very helpful and kind.will definitely shop here again and refer others with smaller dogs

Best place to take your pets for a grooming. They are one of the few that can actually handle rabbits. The staff is amazing and incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. It’s my go-to.
