Report following my recent post–operative overnight stay 27th Feb. 2023. All of the procedures upon entering the hospital were smooth and transitional and this followed all the way through to the next morning on discharge. The staff were great as was the single/private room (5D bed 15) except for the lack of air conditioning, I was very grateful that one of the nurses persisted and found a fan. The room was receiving little to no A/C, had it not been for the fan it would have been an unpleasant night of rest/sleep. Special mention to post theatre recovery nurse Cassandra for ordering me a hot meal at my request, also 5D ward nurse Pauline for ordering me a hot breakfast at the beginning of her night shift (approx. 2300hrs) at my request. Food – you and I both know there is a food problem at this hospital and I have now witnessed little to no change, what so ever, from my last visit. I am also aware that there are general complaints about the food from other sources. Dinner - The night meal was fine even though I don’t know what I ate, it was accompanied by soup, bread roll & a jelly/custard dessert. I also requested some additional sandwiches, these were eaten a short time later with great difficulty; only because post-operative my mouth was extremely dry with a persisted cough and coarse voice. This made eating the sandwiches very difficult but also very dangerous, luckily I was able to reach the water otherwise there might have been a choking incident. Fortunately, I had the dinner, but if it was like the previous occasion where there was no dinner and the nurses managed to find me some sandwiches from the day before, it could have been a problem. Breakfast – I asked the night nurse Pauline regarding breakfast, she ordered breakfast on my behalf (scrambled eggs & bacon, cereal, toast, coffee & orange juice), this order may have got misinterpreted being relayed to the kitchen (see attached breakfast statement). The eggs were barely warm, the toast was as cold as a mortuary trolley and I don’t eat baked beans. I had a discussion with the young lady that came to pick-up the breakfast tray, and I asked her “do they have bacon?”, she replied no, but we have sausages & hash browns, neither of which I received. There is a fundamental flaw in your ordering system, that is, the patient does not get a choice or an opportunity to order a hot meal outside of the normal routine. There is no excuse for not offering a belated menu to a patient once they are in their room. This is now the second time that I have corresponded with this hospital over exactly the same issues as last time, some two years ago. I was advised that there had been changes/improvements since my first operation some two years ago. Interestingly, considering the conversations I have had since my first operation and now prior to my second operation with the St. Andrews Risk and Quality Department, no one has actually followed up with me to enquire whether I found that there were any improvements made. Additional Comment This needs addressing. The limited number of foot stools in the pre-op waiting room are in an appalling condition, does anybody actually check these items that receive daily use by volumes of pre-operative patients. There is no padding left in the foot stools, I suspect this failed some years earlier. There was a similar comment/review regarding the condition of the pre-operative patients’ area made by Edi Mian some three years ago. “Is it possible to get more comfortable lounges in your pre op waiting room, when you are waiting over 2 hrs before your operation sitting on the most uncomfortable same chairs that have been in this room for many years is not acceptable! Spend some money make our wait more comfortable.” “Who We Are” We are a living memorial providing cutting-edge technology and care for all people who value exceptional quality of care and a sense of community in a leading private hospital. The above statement contains a lot of words here, some action would be nice. Thanking you and awaiting your response.
NO STARS for car parking - absolutely dreadful My family have just told me about their experiences in the car park - they and two other people trying to get machine to work to pay $30 for under 1 hour - and in comparison Wesley car park is $12 for an hour. The audio help button wouldn’t work, only the woman with the Optus phone could get service to dial 1300 support number - she generously lent her phone to my family and the other man having difficulties The other man has to use car park often because of his work in the hospital and he said there are frequent issues with the car parking systems. The operator wouldn’t let the woman out until she paid more at the boom gate after finally being able to pay at payment station - by the time the operator got the boom gate to work it was into her 2nd hour / the operator was responsible for the systems failure but they wouldn’t open the gate until she paid for another 1/2 hour - that is soooo terrible. My family were calling it extortion while held hostage and were very forthright in telling the operator don’t you dare do that to us or we will take it further. I am only here overnight and they decided not to visit because they didn’t want to use the car park again. The staff on the other hand were absolutely exceptional- the care was ‘the best’ from the minute I walked into hospital from the admission desk, the woman checking temperatures, the wonderful volunteers escorting you to pre admission, the pre admission nurses and support staff and the theatre team with their great welcome - all the staff getting your ready for your surgery so expertly with kindness, laughter everyone working to put your fears at rest - post op staff made ‘recovery’ a breeze and the team on the ward again and again go out of their way to give you top class nursing care - nothing is too much trouble. The food was great the home made soups were really delicious . Of course my surgeon did an excellent job - he has been so great to deal with, explains everything well answers all your questions, allays all your concerns with timely appropriate advice and information - I am sure the final outcome after healing will go as planned. The anaesthetist again - top class - explained everything so well I felt safe and secure that he would ensure I had the best outcome from my anaesthetic. That sums up my health care experience at St Andrews Hospital safe, caring, with great outcomes. Just a shame about the car parking.
Having just had surgery yesterday for a severe infection I needed to get dressings changed as per surgeons directions - all gps don't have nurses on Sundays so I figured an emergency room. I have walked all the way from Kangaroo Point to this charming young blonde lady at St Andrews emergency counter Sunday afternoon where she not only eye balled my physical appearance but also gave me attitutude telling me at was a private hospital and the minimum fee is $200 I said I can't even afford to get myself to the RBWH where I had the surgery done, which I had just explain to her...but she had to put forward her $200 fee and then she looked my arms up and down and saw previous scars judging me even further, feeling her bad vibes I said thanks very much for your time walked outside to then be looked up an down by a groundsman/security or whoever he was, who was supposedly coming to "check the locks" of an outside door next to a set of steps on which I siting to rest after a long walk and write this review. I may not looka million dollars. The least she could of offered me was a cup of water and a seat and I sincerely didn't appreciate security showing their might towards me as if to say remove yourself. I'm not some junkie feral I was their genuinely asking for help I dont expect anyone to treat me or anyone else regardless of their social status with such deplorable disrespect as this young troll did. She ought to be ashamed!
I was advised that it was better to stay for observation for an issue I presented with at the ER dept. was told I would monitored and would be released first thing in the morning. Night care was good but obviously not much was required beyond a tablet. morning came, couple of tests done and obsv. between 6-8am from that point on, saw no one, treated like an inconvenience.except for obliging 2 ladies who did pressure point checks. told them I had a dreadful night and felt like I was sleeping on bars. They checked mattress and confirmed yes I was as the mattress was failed and it must have been missed during regular inspections. said it would be replaced shortly. It never was. kept getting brushed off when requested when would specialist be able to come (3 requests between 10am-3pm) as had kids coming home at 3pm.Was told specialist was on the floor and would be with me shortly. no one showed. took the machine off that was monitoring me at about 3 o clock, this was supposedly being monitored consistently at the desk, no one noticed. By 4 pm I just walked out. my report to doctor says i was discharged. Dreadful experience. Sent an email to the hospital 5 days ago. cannot even be bothered to respond. though all costs for both ER and private health claimed. what a disgrace.
Update: The nurses are the only functional element of this hospital, actually they were great. The admin (other than trying to charge me twice) and website parts of this organisation are just woeful. They had no idea I had already paid and had to provide them emails from other parts of their own organisation. And nobody cares that it is broken - they just say sorry all the time (see lame response below). I suggest the CEO fill out the admittance form every morning or try to get a customer service issue resolved every day - that might spark some real leadership to fix what is clearly broken. Yet to have the surgery but the admissions process is so woeful that I have no confidence in the rest of it. Their SMS link to admissions doesn't work. The admissions web form is broken in a number of places and does not have a single working automated field and does not take data from their existing records. It takes about 30 min to reach the point you can not submit. The form crashed twice. The whole online experience is unprofessional and a waste of time. Disgraceful
DO NOT send elderly relative there! They will be ignored, neglected, and left to die. I was shocked when non-medical staff member approached me to inform me that they had witnessed my loved one being neglected and that they had to tell me because if it was their loved one they would want to know. I suspected it, because every morning I would have to ask staff to change my family member as the stench on the room was obvious. I had not realised the extent to which my family member had been neglected. I was appalled. I was advised to enact RYAN’S RULE but surprise surprise, they don’t have that. Instead they have their own version, where they say a senior clinician will be with you within 15mins, and you be be informed of the outcome. Both are lies. You will have to ph several times, and you will not receive any feedback. Doctors didn’t communicate between themselves and I was told several conflicting things between the two of them. Avoid this place! Go public - you will be better cared for, I promise you. Uniting Care should be ashamed of themselves!
I am so blessed to have had the top medical care from awesome nursing staff and the infectious diseases specialist Dr Hugh Write also specialist surgeon Dr Daniel Petersen for their expert care during my stay at St Andrews hospital, these guys really Rock!! I have a major pain problem, I want to call out Dr Thomas Brucklacher who is the most amazing pain specialist. He is the best one I have ever experienced in my 22 years of having pain issues. I have had many major surgeries inclusive of multiple spinal fusions as well as a full hip replacement following a series of horrific accidents in my life. Apart from his incredible knowledge and practice as a pain specialist, he is genuinely the most awesome human being. I am forever grateful he came in to my life when I needed him. I am totally in awe of this mans empathic genuineness and dedicated specialist skills to help people when they need an angel like him in their lives. My gratitude forever to the Doctors and nurses at St Andrews hospital I thank you with all my heart
My wife had a surgery last week, from the beginning there were no updates about the surgery timings and they insist us to check with surgeon’s room and they don’t have a clue and they said around 3pm but didn’t tell when we need to be there and from when we need to be in fast and for all those above information we had to call them and get these and hospital and surgeons (hopeless receptionists) only worry about the private health claim and payment for the surgery. When we reached at 1 pm for 3pm surgery they were saying we were waiting for you and why are you late! (Really?!) We have mentioned that allergy to pork/beef but she received ham soup and pork sandwich though it was mentioned in the menu too which is provided as part of your meal! They didn’t even apologise for this mistake and when I asked nurse said you got the one got replaced right! I think we strongly suggest they should work with surgeon and communicate the patient up to date rather than patient chasing everyone to get these info. Not first time though
An extremely unsettling experience. I had a procedure last week that required an overnight stay. After paying for a private room I admittedly was surprised to be sharing with someone else, but assumed they must just be struggling with beds and accepted it. However, the other person had a visitor there from the time of her operation ( around 5) until 9.30pm ( visiting hours are meant to end at 8). To make things worse, I was struggling with vomiting and difficulty breathing, but oftentimes when I buzzed a nurse, the boyfriend of my roommate would get her attention so she would forget me. Eventually I asked for my asthma puffer but was told by the nurse that I could not have this as the doctor had not included it as a medication!! Quite frankly, if it wasn’t for the boy doing his prac from QUT ( who unfortunately had to clean me after vomiting) I would have given no star at all! Whilst the Night Shift nurse did the best she could, I basically felt ignored by what seemed to be very amateur circumstances. Not happy.
Terrible!! After Spending 2 frightening nights in this hospital I can safely say that next time I would choose public over this "churn and burn" poor excuse for a private hospital. The staff were disinterested at best, it's poorly equipped and it seems that everything Is done to a minimum standard to increase proffits. I was actually scared for my life being cared for at this facility. No one ever answered the buzzer in a timely mannor, the first night they ran out of ice packs for the swelling and he Iv machine battery was broken so it beeped all night low battery, my pain relief ran out on several occasions but they were too busy to attend to it. I had to beg for pain relief and for water. The food was bad even for hospital food. The nurses seemed to be hardened to the conditions and struggled to give 100% which is a real shame. If you have a choice I would suggest you choose ANYWHERE else but here. Why pay for private health when the level of care is so dramatically sub standard from admission onwards.
My mother recently had an operation at St Andrew's. We were very disappointed with the unprofessional, disinterested and at times totally negligent attitude of the staff. We were lied to by staff with regards to the outcome of the procedure, where we found out two months after the event that there was a serious complication. This was not disclosed or discussed with us at the time. We also has an instance of someone else's medication being dispensed to my mother. She was also about to be discharged and with the drip hanging out of her arm. This place is not fit to be servicing the public. Avoid it at all cost if you value your health and life. If this is the best that private health care can provide, then it is truly is a sad reflection of the state of our hospital and broader health system.
I recently had surgery with Dr David Mitchell at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital. Dr Mitchell was amazing and gave me all the support and knowledge I needed. Dr Chong was my anaesthetist and again he made me feel comfortable and answered any questions I needed. I also need to highly express my gratitude to the nurses, and staff that looked after me during my stay. Everyone was so happy, always smiling and generous. They didn’t make me feel like a burden, they were the best hospital staff I have been around, and lately that has been a lot. Thank you all so much again. Just to name a few but both “nurses” Emily and nurse Michael you couldn’t have made felt more comfortable. If you are going to go to any hospital I recommend St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital.
Worst. Hospital. Ever. The one star is for the 1 - 2 nurses who were amazing during my imprisonment in this hospital. Was there for 2 days not seen once by a doctor, only a specialist who once I was discharged was revealed he wanted money for consultations during my stay. This was not mentioned at all while I was in hospital and if it was I would have questioned it. He spent less than 20 minutes over 2 visits and wanted $300. DO NOT GO NEAR THIS MONEY GRUBBING INSTITUTION!!! I also had several medical issues which were ignored and they were more interested in discharging me after taking money rather than my care. I will be following up and filing an official complaint and possible ombudsman and media as am truely disgusted and humiliated by my experience
I would never recommend this hospital to my worst enemy. Instead of my mother dying with dignity - she was treated without any respect and made to feel on numerous occasions that she was a nuisance. 3 months have passed and I feel guilty every day that I didn't have her transferred to another facility before she became too ill to move. She was in the Royal Women's hospital before being admitted to St. Andrews - and she had such superior treatment at RWH compared to St. Andrews. The lack of empathy that was shown to my mother was deplorable. I wrote to the hospital to complain about her treatment and received a phone call from the Nurse Unit Manager - who assured me she would look into my 'concerns'! Things did improve slightly but it was all too late.
Wouldn't go any where else, As far as I am concerned, St Andrews has the cream of the medical world in Australia and a forerunner in Nuclear Medicine. It is one of the most medically advanced hospitals in the world, with world class care and staff. To all the Doctors and Staff (Permanent, Casual and especially the volunteers) thank you for your dedication and attention you have given to my my mother who is currently in your care. A place with a great sense of family and warmth. I am also proud to be one of the privileged few to have been born there. You serve Brisbane well and the historical contribution of the ANZACs - 61st Battalion AIF in providing the hospital's foundation and the Scottish connection should never be forgotten.
Top hospital St Andrews. Excellent nursing care, rooms clean n meals best ever. Tea ladies lovely n go that little extra serving cakes etc. Physios all brilliant n caring n helpful in working 2 get u going again. Drs r amazing n as my husband has had Parkinsons disease for 28yrs Dr Coyne n Professor Silburn have given him a quality life with DBS. N our neurologist Associate Professor John O'Sullivan is the most caring man. Not just for Peter but 4 me as well being my husbands fulltime carer. He never gives up n he is not only our dr but a dear friend also. My only gripe is how expensive the parking has got. The carpark is truly a obstacle course but after 8yrs i think i have it worked out. Last of all. Top ward. 5F
I stayed overnight in Ward 5D (Orthopedic ) in July 2023. The nurses and other staff were excellent. The only problem I had was the constant ringing of the bell. It was so loud . No one seem to be concerned about it . I did not get a minute of sleep even though the nurse gave me earplugs which didn’t block the noise at all. One staff told me the noise is always ongoing. Can they not turn the volume down a bit ? Unfortunately the specialist who treated me operated at this hospital. I have to change to another Dr and go to another private hospital if I need orthopedic treatment in future. I have mentioned this noise problem in the survey I completed post discharge. I have not received any explanation .
I've been in St Andrews for a surgical procedure and over night stay during the last couple of days and I couldn't be more impressed with the service and care I've been given at this hospital. The stand out moments: The friendly and caring surgical admissions nurse that made sure I was warm and relaxed. My anaesthesiologist who had a great chat with me and a joke as he put me under. The recovery nurse that provided me with outstanding care and reassurance. All of the nurses I had look after me in 3D ward. Your kindness and taking a bit of time to have a chat with me was just so appreciated. If you're trying to pick somewhere to have surgery I can not recommend St Andrews enough!
My experience at St. Andrews was, from go to whoa, brilliant. I had a full knee replacement procedure and the surgeon was just awesome. His specialty, thank heavens, is knees and ankles. The after care was just tremendous. My operations was on a Wednesday and I was discharged the following Monday. I cannot thank the nurses, students, physios, caterers and porters from ward 5F enough for their outstanding efforts to ensure that I received only the best of care. I have no hesitation in recommending this establishment to anyone who requires stellar care and attention. Again my thanks to all of those people who were responsible for my well-being from admission to discharge.
My son was recently admitted to St. Andrews for surgery on his foot which involved struts and braces being screwed into his foot, which was performed by an amazing caring and committed Doctor (Dr Donald) to add to this Dr Waterhouse was so nice to my son as well. We were in room 11 ward 5D, I must praise all the nursing staff that looked after him they were brilliant, a big shoutout to Jo who was his nurse on the first night when we were very stressed waiting for him to come out of surgery she was wonderful, caring and so helpful, when we discharged Joseph discharge us and helped us get out he was wonderful too. Please thank these wonderful staff of yours on my behalf.
My 3 yr old son had day surgery at St Andrews today. This was a repeat surgery. We had the exact same staff last year (in admissions, surgery & recovery : that's saying something!!!) and they were as amazing today, as they were last time. They couldn't have been more supportive, kind, friendly, knowledgeable, AVAILABLE, willing or able. Worthy of a particular mention is Nurse Helen : you rock!!! Thankyou to all the team at St Andrews : your professionalism and warm hearts helped this anxious Mum (& her son) more than you can ever know. The equipment appeared to be in excellent condition, everything was working, explained and at our fingertips. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Very old outdated hospital needs renovation looks and feels like a public hospital. Staff are lovely however communication between staff is lacking bigtime and no one seems to know whats going on things get missed and forgotten about meds not given on time wounds left undressed the whole day then when I mentioned something they had no idea what dressings to put on then when they finally worked out what they were going to use they had no stock seems a very unorganized place with to much miscommunication . Food is typical yucky hospital food with limited choices coffee tea and good is almost always cold by the time it gets to you . Not a pleasant stay
I’ve been living in Australia for the past 15 years, and unfortunately have had to stay in 5 different hospitals now and then. Saint Andrews Memorial Hospital is by far, the best health care I have ever received! From the Doctors,Nurses, Reception Staff, Food Service, Cleaners.. Every single employee was friendly, polite, and professional! Food was great, everything was clean. I had a stay in a Tawoomba Hospital three years ago, after being discharged I told my wife I would rather die then ever go into hospital again. Saint Andrew’s has completely changed my opinion, there are professional organisations out there, and St. Andrew’s is one of them.
My mother had an operation at St Andrews and the stories are horrific. She's early 70s and they didn't treat her well at all. She had to walk to the operating table, where she waited for a while without a blanket or anything. The nurse after the operation left her alone in the bathroom where she couldn't stand up, and after a while appeared where she was left only in her gown in the cold. The nurse was extremely unfriendly. For breakfast she got some cereal and chopped tomato and onion. And the list goes on... Not exactly what I would expect from a private hospital. Why bother St Andrews! Wondering why we pay a fortune for private health??
Shocking follow up with the nurses. Heard the all night talking loudly outside the ward. Nurses in the recovery room rude, questioned my level of pain and very pushy to have me out of there hair so they didn't have to deal with me. Had to ask every time for water which most times the nurse on call forgot to bring back to me. No point even having a call bell, I tried to get an alarm turned off after buzzing for 30 mins, no one came So I ended up having to sort of silencing the machine myself. Understand hospitals are busy, but if the staff had a good attitude this would assist with the wait.
I went to st Andrews ED last week and the service was spectacular. They are very professional in the ED, I had influenza really bad, they did a PCR test on me and took my bloods. Ran me on a drip with drugs to make me feel better. Dr Craig Herron who I saw was very polite, relaxed, did a full check up on me. Also the nurses were polite, offered me tea, coffee and food while I was there. Could almost class it like a hotel lol. Thanks guys for the great service, won’t hesitate to come back again! Once I was discharged they explained everything to do and told me to go home and rest.
Poor service. Noted that this is an emergency department however it appeared to be understaffed and poor time management. It was unacceptable the amount of wait time and poor communication for a emergency department (especially a private hospital). 20 minutes to be seen by a nurse 60 minutes to get an x-ray (with confirmed break) 60 minutes for the doctor to confirm said break and 'make plans' for referrals / splint etc. 20 minutes to put on the splint 90 minutes waiting for discharge. Recommendations: Increase your staffing for safety and efficiency
I have been going each day for 6 days and have paid $25 for parking. yesterday I paid $30 and am told I shouldnt have pressed day pass. I have done the same each day and charged $25. Nowhere is there a sign which gives you any information on parking and prices. I didnt know till day 3 that I could have used the 7 day pass and it would have been cheaper. Is this a trick to make you pay daily? I really think there should be a sign on the pay station...I was worried that if I pushed 7 day passed I may have to pay a huge amount as there is no info.
I had open heart surgery 8 weeks ago at St Andrews, ended up staying just shy of two weeks (2 days in ICU). The staff were fantastic, the care they provided A+ and the costs seemed very reasonable. I was getting tired of the food, but I'm a very fussy eater, and I wasn't in there for the food :-) I really want to thank the nurses in the cardio ward, even the trainee, they were all so kind and nice, while being very attentive to my medical needs. I especially wish to thank the ICU nurses, they have a difficult job and they do it so very well.
If I tried to tell you how well I was treated at this hospital, my praise would never be enough. I am an American traveling on business with a medical issue that kept me from flying home. The Dr's and Nurses and everyone were super nice, treated me like family or better. Helped we with everything they could even when I had to have a procedure at another hospital they made sure everything was 100% in order. I would trust my life or my families lives to these people any time. I just wish they were closer back home as I would ALWAYS go there.
I attended St Andrew’s Memorial Hospital for day surgery today. From the moment I checked in to the Admissions desk, to the moment my husband picked me up after my surgery six hours later, the care and attention I received was nothing short of amazing. I’d like to make special mention of Nurses Jordan, Byron, Mandy, Jane, Louise and Dania, and my apologies to anyone I’ve missed. You were all fantastic, so thank you for the wonderful care and attention to the awesome and professional team at St Andrew’s. You are all very special indeed!
I was recently admitted to St. Andrews for a Neuro-stimulation trial which involved four leads being implanted in my neck to interrupt pain signals to my brain. The trial was a success and I will be returning soon to have them permanently implanted. I was in room 18 ward 5D, I must praise the nursing staff that looked after me. What a wonderful, caring group of people, I was treated as a VIP. When I return soon I could only wish for the same people to be taking care of me again. Please thank these wonderful staff of yours on my behalf.
Id like to give my surgeon 5 stars and also my nurses Paige and Alyssia. My anethasist and surgical team were excellent. Ward afterwards was a different story. I had major surgery here last wk and the communication between staff was poor. I was made feel very uncomfortable by a male nurse and requested a change of nurse only to be dismissed and ignored before having my brother ask a head nurse who assured me I wouldn't be seen by him again only to have him in multiple more times. Really not acceptable. Very distressing experience.
After reading some previous comments I was a tad nervous about my stay at St Andrews... However this stay has proven how much this hospital is dedicated to patient care... From Everyone from Admin, Triage Nurses, Theatre Nurses, ICU Nurses & Doctors are simply the best in the business, always felt looked after, respected & cared for... as much as people don’t like hospitals this has been a pleasure to be cared for by some of the industries finest medical staff... couldn’t have asked for anything more.. Thank You To Everyone
I’m trying to have my mother pin down the exact night she had to stay there. But whoever the night nurse was not only wouldn’t give my mother her medicine, she yelled directly in her face about how she needed to tell her what she wanted or she wouldn’t get it. My mom barely speak, they couldn’t see what she was in there for? My mother said everyone else was very nice and professional, but I can not believe a nurse would yell in her face like that because she needed her medicine and the nurse didn’t want to do her job.
I recently had day surgery - laser lithotripsy to remove several large kidney stones. Big thank you to the expertise and skill of Dr Matthew Roberts utilising the modern technology available at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital which allowed the seamless removal of my pesky kidney stones. I would also like to pay tribute to the outstanding staff at the hospital, from the receptionist at the front counter to all the nurses I encountered. Very friendly and caring. Well done to all. And thank you again.
I had spinal surgery here May 15, 2023 and spent two nights in a private hospital room. Everything and everyone at St. Vincent’s Chermside was top notch including the admission process, the nurses, the imaging department, and even the food service. Staff were all very professional, caring and competent. Not only did they treat the patients with respect and professionalism, I noticed that they treated each other that way as well. Thank you to everyone for helping me through a difficult procedure.
Volunteers very kind & helpful in directing to right lifts, toilets, cafe etc. Good to sit outside the front looking at contrast of older & modern building. Also wonderful tree as pictured. Going down towards cafe many interesting historical memories of the hospital & also artwork on the right with special windows as in photos. Hospitals can mean a lot of time waiting for appointment times etc so take the time to look both sides. Also to right of Cafe at end is machine for your parking.
I was seen in the ED when Wesley and Greenslopes wouldn't take me because they were too busy which was fair enough. The triage Nurse agreed to let the paramedics take me there. They were pretty busy but the attending was fantastic and the nurses lovely. They even organised a follow up with my specialist which was great and they called the next day to book it. This was a few months back but I hope they read this so they know that the work they do is appreciated and noticed.
Wow what a fantastic hospital. Came in for surgery last night under Dr Andy Stamatiao. An amazing caring specialist who wasted no time getting my surgery organised. Thankyou Andy. The staff from theatre staff, ward staff, admissions staff, and all ancillary staff are so friendly, caring and helpful. I have received exceptional care. Thankyou everyone at St Andrews. This is the best hospital I have ever been in and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
My husband has been a regular patient at Greenslopes since 1999; however recently he found himself at St Andrews Emergency Centre with excruciating back pain. He was quickly triaged and stabilised, then admitted; where he is currently receiving excellent care. Of particular mention is Dr Neil McCormack, who expertly diagnosed his rare (1:100,000) condition and set him on the correct treatment path. I expect he will switch his allegiance to St Andrews from now on.
The hospital is great most times .staff great especially if you have a medical emergency in the ward.A bit scarey on Saturday post surgery. If you need help staff stretched to maximum. One nurse for 6 post OP cases.but staff lovely care was great .Dr Fredrikson is an amazing surgeon caring very kind and caring.post surgery and follow up appointments exceeded my expectations. Exray people lovely..the wardsman was excellent. As were the night shift staff .
Wouldn’t recommend as a private patient, during fasting the staff ate in front of you and it was loud and chaotic. It’s outdated and worn down. Worst experience of a hospital I have had. Was offered a sandwich at the end that had condensation on the plastic. Communication was terrible. Sat for 2.5 hours with no updates. The clothes given to wear for surgery was scratchy and uncomfortable. Bed sheets had stains. Understaffed and overbooked.
My mother Joyce is receiving palative care currently at St. Andrews 4F Room 416. I would like to thank all the staff on ward 4F for their compassionate loving care. Just unbelievable. A special mention must go to one of nurses caring for my mother. I don't know her name she was from Nepal. Thank you so much. Another special mention should also go to Sharron on the 4F ward desk. Thank you to all the staff you are just so amazing. Peter
The staff were lovely from the start when I spoke with the wonderful Annabelle on the phone who talked me through the costs, to Dr Juni and Dr Malik who were some of the most caring, informative doctors I’ve ever dealt with, to the wonderful nurses Lyn and Antoinette who made me feel comfortable and at ease. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the easiest emergency visit and for making me feel heard and comfortable. Thank you!!!
Admitted for a cholesteatoma surgery, petrified about the whole experience as I've never had to have surgery before, let alone surgery on my head. However, the whole pre-op and post-op experience from the moment I walked in was fantastic. Everyone was polite and explained everything in detail if I had any questions. Thank you to all the nurses, doctors and staff who made the experience a positive memorable one.
I had my sinuses operation here through a private surgeon. One of the worst experiences of my life. The ward was very noisy couldn’t sleep a wink after my overnight surgery. My private health insurance has settled my claim but their pharmacy Epic pharmacy keep harassing me for a claim ($90)that the hospital won’t settle amongst them. Very unprofessional place, stay away, it’s a choice I would make.
Peaceful and not a lot of staff running about. But a full on party was allowed in the medical ward I was in in one room nearby and not even the nurse would tell them to shut up - I had a morphine drip. I got out of bed and went and got security myself. A 20 something nurse was simply a smart mouth. They topped up medication when they remembered. Food was very good. Cleaning was not done regularly.
Owing to severe back pain I went to St Andrews emergency I rate the treatment and care absolutely 5 star. Everyone from the doctors to the nursing staff were first class and caring. It took about four hours to check in from emergence ( in my case there was no life threating issues) owing to getting a bed suited for me. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hospital to everyone.
I was admitted at St Andrew's hospital for 2 nights for my thyroid surgery. The nurses doctors were very nice and friendly. The hospital was very clean and comfortable to stay. Nurses and doctor has done their job well in keeping me calm during my surgery. Also thanks to the friendly nurse name Emily who's very nice and kind who look after me pretty well when i stayed at the ward.
This hospital and all there team members and doctors are treated and truly caring, from the moment you arrive until you leave again thay all work together and make you feel very blessed and apart of a very caring family, thank you everyone for all your support and and caring and looking after myself with the up most professional care and love ❤️ God Bless you all xx
I had surgery last week at St Andrew's, and everything and everyone was PERFECT! The process was smooth and all the nursing staff were so caring and kind. This will be our go-to hospital for any future needs. Thank you to everyone there, I'm home, alive and well with no complications and certainly no complaints., lots of love to all at St Andrew's, from Julie xxxxxx
A hospital car park should have enough car spaces for patients seeing clinicians within this facility. These spaces are shrinking fast. We travelled a long way for a medical appointment by car because we have no public transport where we live only to look desparately for a park in the building opposite. Took up most of the appointment time. Totally unsatisfactory.
Words cannot describe the care and attention I received over the past couple of days at Saint Andrews. ALL the staff including nurses, doctors, clerical ,volunteers, cleaners and those delivering meals. What a team of wonderful people, all worked off their feet but still professional, polite, very caring and human. Congratulations and thank you all. Frank Cooper
My fiancé had both key hole and open heart surgery at St Andrews late last year. We were completely blown away at how friendly, professional, open, and down to earth everyone was. From the people at reception through to the ICU nurses and surgical team (specifically ward 2F). We cannot thank you enough for looking after us so well during such a stressful time.
I had a colonoscopy here and had a really good experience. Nurses were friendly and competent. Gloria the volunteer was very lovely and so was another British male nurse I didn't catch the name of. Everyone made sure I was okay and offered me all sorts of things to make me comfortable. Everything was clean and comfortable. Couldn't complain about anything.
The best service in Australia i have ever seen, Dr Paul in the emergency and the nurses Ropert and Kristane( i think so ) are the best. I recommend this hospital as you do not want to wait for hours to see angry doctor. In this hospital everyone want do better service then the other one. For the manger, you are lucky to have a lovely emergency team.
Went in there for a day procedure and couldn't fault them. Everyone involved was extremely professional and took the time to answer all of my questions - I was quite nervous as I hadn't been to hospital since I was a child. All nurses were proactive, kind and very courteous. Procedure and recovery rooms were both well equipped. Highly recommended.
Attended here for a workplace accident, and wish I had been taken to a public hospital. It was so quite there, yet was kept waiting ages, and the staff and in particular the doctors were rude and uncaring. Would never go there voluntarily again, and would hate to think how much that wasted visit actually cost, fortunately for me I wasn't paying.
My girlfriend had hip replacement surgery & she received the best care! Smokers have to go right out front on the street level! So there is no privacy in that regard! A great kiosk! Unfortunately the on time Ambulance transportation service provided a very bumpy ride & caused Sue further injury to her hip on the way to the Gold Coast Hospital!
A wonderful group of people, doctors, nurses, support personnel all do an amazing job. During my recent stay, I was most pleased to meet such professional friendly people who loved their job and were only too happy to answer my questions and help me in any way. Thank you for making my operation and hospital stay a lot less stressful.
10/10. I luckily caught the emergency department on a quiet night but nonetheless the nurses & doctor were amazing and had me straight through and looked after. Very comfortable and accommodating after being turned away from another private hospital for not having a neg PCR result. St Andrew’s will be my first choice from now on.
Just called the reception for some details about a procedure that I will be having soon. Receptionist sounded like she does not care much about my question, could not be bothered to give any further information nor to transfer my call to someone else who knows better about it. They require more training. Not professional at all.
I recently had day surgery here. Reception staff and volunteers were amazing and helpful. The nursing staff, in particular, have an amazing bedside manner and were so caring. I love the patient tracking so my husband could go off and know the appropriate time to come pick me up. I've never been in a better hospital!
I would like to pass on my thanks to the wonderful staff at St Andrew's Emergency Department. Having arrived by ambulance on Tuesday I was admitted immediately and looked after by wonderful, caring, empathetic nurses, radiation staff, and doctor. I can't thank you enough for the care and attention! Thank you all!!!!
My partner once went to St Andrews ED having attempted to kill themselves by slitting their wrists. Rather than call an ambulance the staff gave them a PRINTED MAP to get to the ED of the Royal Brisbane - a REAL hospital. You should be ashamed for your criminal negligence. gets 2 stars bc at least they had a map..
I have been here twice for surgery and I could not fault it. Dr Frederiksen was an amazing surgeon who made me feel at ease with great professionalism. His team were amazing and were great with explaining everything. The lovely nurse Cassie on the ward was amazing and I was lucky enough to get her both times.
My wife had surgery performed on the 30 January 2020. The service and attention given her by everyone at the hospital was brilliant. The nurse Christie attending ward 3D room 67?? was absolutely amazing as were all the staff attending to this ward. Thanks St Andrews and in particular Christie. Robin and Wanda
I recently had a stint in the hospital and cant speak highly enough about the caring and compassionate staff and the care i received. From quickly being seen in Emergency though to fast testing and treatment everyone i encountered was kind, empathetic and genuinely invested in providing top quality care
Outstanding level of care and concern by staff members. Very well organised in terms of admission and procedures. There was also the facility of online tracking so family embers know what stage you were up to. Extremely well maintained. All in all, they made a challenging time much more tolerable.
What an amazing place, the staff were more than helpful, friendly and very efficient. A super big thank you to all of those in and around the theatre. My daughter was very anxious before surgery and she is still talking about you all days later, with a huge smile. From us both I Thank you
These people are horrible to work for. They will exploit you at any turn. Working for this company severely impacted my mental and physical health. They could not care less that you’re understaffed and working 50 hour weeks, they just want to make money. They are such an evil organisation.
I had a lovely nurse in Recovery and a nurse Paul on the ward 5F bed 508. The physio told me one thing then I relay it to another nurse Louise she was so rude. U feel bad enough being in hospital and having all this pain. Then u get rude nurses. No communication from one nurse to another.
I just had surgery here and stayed overnight. My dr was super nice and friendly and the nurses are literally angels on earth (I was even able to get a later discharge- although this is obviously not always possible. Would definitely recommend! And for a hospital the food is pretty good!!
Is it possible to get more comfortable lounges in your pre op waiting room, when you are waiting over 2 hrs before your operation sitting on the most uncomfortable same chairs that have been in this room for many years is not acceptable! Spend some money make our wait more comfortable.
Grandfather is currently a patient, I can only say that I am so so so impressed with his level of care, the knowledge and attentiveness of staff and the level of specialists that are at his disposal. The rooms are nice, hospital is clean, and the staff to patient ratio is incredible.
Had the occasion to spend time at St Andrew's Day Surgery today . The care was absolutely amazing from the minute I waked in the the front door to when I left via the front door. Thank you for being a group of wonderful people. My Dr's were fabulous, thank you for your care.
Had surgery here a few years back and literally, everything (including the operation) was a success!! My surgeon, Dr Donald, was just awesome, seriously, this Dr goes above and beyond the call of duty. Nurses, lovely, X-ray staff, lovely, physio staff, lovely. Food GREAT!!
Such a wonderful hospital buzzing with amazing energy and full of such wonderful doctors and nurses. I have never seen a medical facility like it. The care l received whilst there was second to none. I highly recommend this hospital for all your medical and surgery needs.
Had neck surgery at St Andrews with a 2 night stay. Very happy with nurses and staff. Can highly recommend my ENT surgeon Dr Ryan Sommerville very professional and caring. After surgery checkups / communication were excellent from Dr Sommerville and his ENT clinic.
Wonderful staff, easy paperwork. The whole experience inside the hospital was great but the hospital parking is a nightmare. How do you expect a 4 wheel drive or a big family car to turn in those narrow ramps. If only I would have known I would have caught a Uber.
Excellent staff attitudes. Helpful and caring. Will to go out their way to help settle people down and provide reassurance. Active in rehab and getting you out if bed. Very supportive. 5D staff were perfect. Cassie, Brianna and Talia provided significant support.
I attended the emergency department with my Son My son was very distressed and they sorted him out quickly. We were seen within 10 minutes, beats waiting hours in a public hospital. The nursing and medical staff were excellent could not have been more attentive.
Absolute horrible finance and admin team. Not only did they double charge, they have been rude and a nightmare to work with to find a solution. I have never been spoken to the way I have been spoken to by the admin team at the hospital. Absolutely horrendous.
Would be really nice if the nursing staff knew how to use their inside voices around the wards and sick patients instead of yelling at each other from one end of the corridor to the other. The noise is horrendous and disturbing to patients trying to sleep.
Except for its Emergency department, this has got to be the worst hospital experience ever. And a very expensive one, which is compounding. Absolutely shambolic, rude, non-communicative, unaccountable staff. Infuriatingly frustrating & deeply distressing.
Had a Radio Frequency Ablation on both legs on 6/6/23 as a Day Patient. The nursing staff were wonderful - with 5 star performance in and out of the Operating Theatre. Very efficient, friendly and helpful in meeting patients needs. Well done St.Andrews!!
I would like to thank Dr Paul McEniery and his team for the work they performed last week on my hand , I would call it nothing short of perfection . The communication from beginning to end from reception through to discharge are in my words , excellent .
I am absolutely pleased how good was my experience in the emergency centre of this hospital. Dr. Paul Everett and the whole emergency team were simply the perfect in every way. Also the staff from the X-ray were so friendly and kind. Thank you so much.
I recently had a few days in this hospital and have nothing but praise for the care right from the emergency department to the ward. Everyone was so kind and happy and I couldn't believe the quality of the meals and the lovely room I had thank you all
Shout out to Nikki, Talia and the other nurse who looked after me overnight (name escapes me) in ward 5D. All had a lovely bedside manner which was seconded by both the physio and pharmacist. Keep up the great work everyone, it is much appreciated!
Had to go in overnight for some tests. Parking is really good and significantly cheaper than St Andrews Place across the road. Staff are friendly and helpful. Individual rooms are very nice and as comfortable as you can get in a hospital setting.
Recently had shoulder surgery and spent 2 nights in their care. I can not thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff enough. They were extremely helpful, professional and caring. Which made me feel at ease before my surgery and during my recovery. ❤️
If you need an MRI dont be admitted here as their MRI department isnt approved by Medicare and you cant claim by private health or medicare. Go to Mater private instead. Shame your not informed in advance so you can make informed decision.
My experience at St. Andrew's War Memorial Hospital was excellent, thanks in large part to the outstanding care provided by night nurses Andy and Chelsea (& the three other nurses that took over in the morning). They all displayed
Have just had a 5 day stay after surgery and the nursing staff have been amazing. They are stretched so thin and yet still gave a the care the I needed. Hospital is clean and I would opt to come back here in the future is needed.
Had a long stay in July, back in next Monday. All staff were great from the cleaners to the nurses, nothing was too much trouble. Treat people well and with respect and that is what you will receive in return, it's called karma!
I have been in to use their ER services about 4 times at night when I was having problems with ear infections and dental pain. They saw me quickly each time, and I am very happy with their services. Thank You staff!
Absolutely outstanding, professional caring staff, from admission to post operative care. Special shout out to the nurses caring for our son, they are such wonderful humans. Would highly recommend St Andrew's.
As far as hospitals go, this has to be the best experience I've had in Australia. The staff were professional and friendly and the rooms well equipped and clean. It would be my choice if I had to stay again.
