I went in looking around at bikes at the Paseo location like any normal bike lover does on weekends after a ride. Was greeted by a weird dude with a shaved head. He asked if I needed any help and I said no I'm just looking around and seeing if they have any deals yet. He pointed me to a 400 dollar hardtail. I bought a bike 160 travel full suspension a few months prior and race enduros on it. I explained I am looking for Specialized Enduros on discount and just killing time. He told me I don't need more than 120MM of travel on the camber and pointed me to a bottom of the line Camber. I told him I was ok and walked away but yet he still followed me... I told him I'm just looking and he said "we are between seasons and riding styles are changing". I asked about how riding styles are changing because at this point it was comical. He said everything is going road/mountain hybrid. I laughed and called him an idiot. I walked out and won't return. Prior to this I took my bike in for a quick derailleur adjustment and paid for the service, yet the bike didn't shift. Horrible service. The only reason I bought my bike was Derek is an amazing salesman and person as well as a rider. They fired Derek. Makes sense, trash place can only have trash employees.
Another great experience with High Desert Bikes on the west side. Such a professional shop but still very attentive to unique needs of their customers. My 6 year old was quite distraught after the crank shaft on his NEW bike fell apart. Despite being really busy and being close to closing time on a Friday evening and even more relevant, we had not purchased this bike from them, the bike shop manager still went out of his way to fix it and was very timely about it as well and was genuinely more concerned about helping out a kiddo and customer than making money (although both go hand in hand in running a business) so big shout-out and thanks to High Desert for hiring the right kind of employee that focuses on creating and maintaining the long-term beneficial culture of rendering genuine customer service. And thanks a ton to the bike shop manager for going above and beyond the call of duty. I am definitely a loyal customer for life now.
I took an old bike that needed some love over to these guys. There was confusion over contact details and parts took about a week longer to order than anticipated. After I brought it home, I noticed that the bike was still dusty, none of the gears had been oiled, and it still looked a little ragged. Now, I understand that these guys didn’t *need* to do anything more than what they were being paid to do. We agreed on work to be done, and they did it. And I hope I’m not sounding entitled by saying this, but I was a little disappointed that no extra effort was put in to my bike. It would’ve gone a long way in terms of keeping a customer, and I don’t even think it would’ve taken an extra 5-10 minutes to spray some degreaser or Lysol to clean it up. I’m pleased with the work they did, but if you do use this place, keep in mind that you’ll get nothing but what you pay for, for better or worse.
My son's bike needed a flat repaired, his buddies were going on a bike ride that evening. I called at 4:00 on a Saturday afternoon, to see if they could help us out. They said, Sure, bring it in we should be able to take care of it. I get there and I can see that it's super busy...we walk in the shop and they greet me right away. I fill them in on what I needed and the associate takes the bike back right then and starts working on it. We browse the store and it's fixed within 15 mins.! I can't express enough how impressed I was with the outstanding service of this shop! Excellent customer service is hard to come by and these guys were awesome! I left there with a fixed bike and a happy kid, made our day! Oh, they also gave me a discount on the tube, I would've paid double for the service I got! Thanks guys, you are amazing!
We needed ("High Desert Bicycles") expertise on a much needed bike repair, for my brother. We were given the assistance, we needed to repair our bike. Since, I am handicapped, their in-house service was affordable, and we fully understood every step we were taking. The service and management are 100% in-tune with their product, their customers, and the customer services, was hands down one of the beat in the industry. We were well taken care of. This will be our place to go, for all of our bike repairs, or to even to purchase our next e-bikes. Provided my severe disability provides me to ever ride again. Their selection of (e-bikes) are hands down, the best we have seen. I will never spend a dollar at a Walmart, when we have small home town businesses, with outstanding services, as High Desert Bicycles is providing.
We recently got very into mountain biking and decided after a ride in the afternoon that the kids needed something a bit better than their boxstore bikes. So we stopped to see what they had. All of the staff was VERY friendly, very very very knowledgable, and very honest with what sizing, style, and what to get our kids into. It was very helpful to have that advise because we ended up getting a slightly bigger bike than I thought we needed for both of our kiddos, but they will now last longer than 6 months like the previous bikes we bought, and the best part is the kiddos LOVE them. Very quality bikes we got, the kids absolutely love them, they cannot wait to hit the hills, very thankful for the staff there and all of the help they provided us!
I had the brakes on my bike go from phenomenal to almost nonexistent in a matter of a few months. Being extremely new to cycling I figured I did some serious damage and took the bike to High Desert Bicycles simply because it was the closest shop near me. The employee who greeted me immediately knew it needed basic adjustments and reassured me they’ll do a full check up on it. They said they’ll have a (free)estimate sent to me later that evening which was impressive. Before I could even make it back home I received an email saying it only needed basic adjustments after all and the bike was ready for pick up. Extremely fast service, friendly employees, and an honest price has earned this place 5 stars and all my future business!
Prices are slightly higher than other shops in Albuquerque. But the services more than compensate. You walk in a nobody and leave as a friend. I just needed my freewheel loosened so I could service my rear hub. I went to a shop uptown and the guy said, $5 to loosen it for you. (The tool was on shelf for $8) I unfortunately was broke like joke. soo i went to high desert and immediately the guy just offered to help me break it loose with the shops tools. Took him 3 seconds to help me, and convince me to be a customer. I ended up purchasing, freewheel hub remover tool. An crank puller. Brake pads. Bearings all kinds of goodies. And left fully knowledgeable in how to use the items I purchased. I had fun and will return!
Bought a new bike from here and was pleasantly surprised that it came in a little under what I expected to pay. However, after getting it home, and before riding it, the front tire kept going flat. Took the front wheel in, explained the situation, and they replaced the tube free of charge. No more leaks. I really appreciate companies that listen to and respect their customers, and do their best to make things right. With a relatively simple and cheap fix, they resolved the situation and kept me as a happy customer. Definitely recommend if you're looking for high quality equipment, from a company with integrity and solid customer service.
Was in the market for a new mid level mountain bike and I had some in mind that I had been looking at online, from a different vendor. The staff member still answered all my questions, showed me comparable bikes in his shop, and went over the specs of the bikes I was looking at. I ended up choosing to purchase a bike online, because I had a special discount, and the staff member was still extremely helpful and even recommended that I have my bike assembled at the shop to ensure everything was done right. I had my bike assembled there and it took half the time that they quoted me and everything was in tip top shape!! Love this shop!!!
Hello, My family and I have been going to high desert bikes since they opened and have bought multiple bikes from them. Vince has always been so friendly and helpful and we wouldn’t go anywhere else for our cycling needs. However, today my boyfriend and I went in to purchase a new bike for him and the man who helped us was very unfriendly and rude. As a long time customer of HDB I was embarrassed that I recommended he go here. We left right away due to his unfriendly, unhelpful service. Because of him (whose name I can’t remember) he will not be purchasing a bike from them today and I will reconsider my future cycling purchases.
DO NOT GO HERE. Terrible service. I went in to get my bike serviced the guy behind the counter was extremely rude. Didn’t even touch my bike and quoted me $45 for new tubes and service. Also saying he could get it done in “about 4 hours” when the shop was completely empty. He clearly just didn’t want to work, I went else where to The Bike Smiths LLC. (on rio grande great shop) and got GREAT service paying only $12 for needing only air and sealant and receiving a 20 minute service. Do not take your business here, I recommend the the shop I mentioned for better service and prices.
After initially getting off on the wrong foot, I've revised this review to give a 5 star ranking because the owner (Johnny) reached out to us personally to remedy the problem. He also prioritized a repair on a busy Friday at no extra charge. In addition, he took time to explain tubeless pros and cons to an ABQ newbie. No business is perfect, but when an owner wholeheartedly stands behind the work we know we have arrived at a place where we will ultimately be satisfied. Thanks very much for fixing our bicycles so that we can better enjoy Albuquerque.
I bought a Specialized Crosstrail here in 2013. They helped size/set up the bike for me, which was great. Unfortunately they also sold me a mountain bike hand pump to go with my bike, which uses tires rated for 75-100 psi (so I basically can't use it to inflate my tires to the recommended pressures). Edit: Based on the owner's feedback, I realize the issue is not as clear-cut as I had thought, and I was in fact sold an appropriate pump for my bike. Thanks to the owner for their response.
I took my jogging stroller to this shop, and it was excellent! There was even a sweet dog that greeted us, and gave us some loves. I recommend this shop to anyone that owns a jogging stroller with regular bike style tires. They replaced my flat inner tube with a thick tube for the trails around here, and I haven't had any issues with that tire since. The cost was well worth the trip, and I am actually planning on going back to have my other tires fixed.
I’d give these guys a 5-star review just based on how John replies to all the cranky 1-star reviews. We bought a mt. bike here a few months ago and love it. I’m headed over tomorrow to look for another. We were offered a nice discount on a helmet with the purchase (Val-pack coupon) and received excellent service. I do wish people would act more grown-up when writing these reviews. The replies are certainly well-written and appropriate.
Today we shopped small because we were trying to figure out size and other questions. We are now TOTAL CUSTOMERS! We had a 100 million questions and the Peter guided us to the right solution. Not the most expensive, but perfect. It was ready the same day. After all this time purchasing online, it was AMAZING to work with a person and have it come out wonderful. Christmas will be magical thank you to high Desert Bicycles. THANK YOU!
Poor service very rude unwilling to help every question we asked they answered with i can't are bmx bike had a broken crank they said you cant replace those also asked them if there was a way to make it faster they said no u cant they said your better off buying a new bike from us we took it to another shop they replaced the crank and put a bigger sproket needless to say the bike is faster thanks for nothing high desert bicycles.
I came in with a goat-head caused flat tire while on a group ride which is exhausting trying to keep my tire inflated with a hand-pump. They were kind, showed my the goat-head, and in 15 minutes I had a new thicker-skinned tube with sealant and well-aligned wheel for very reasonable price. And he reminded me to fill my 2 water bottles with cold water from their drinking fountain, so nice for my 45 minute ride back in 11am heat.
Very friendly. They were able to help with a tricky bike repair in a timely fashion. I will likely buy my next bike there because of the positive service. Follow Up: Been going to this store for nearly a year now. I cannot recommend a better place to buy, rent, or have your bike repaired. I have bought two more bikes from them since my original post... and I may get one more in the near future ;) Also, grade A bike fitting.
They are helpful and patient. Bought a Specialized Tarmac in May and my tube and tire exploded on a ride early this month, July. I brought it in and they replaced the tube and tire at no cost and then noticed damage to the wheel. They then, without my having to ask, offered to contact Specialized and do a warranty replacement on the wheel. Awesome service. I will definitely be going back for all of my bicycle needs.
Just picked up a Turbo Levo SL for my daughter. Upon walking into the shop we were met by Aaron who blew us away with his outstanding service. He not only helped us throughout the process with orienting my daughter with the features on her new bike but then fully set it up for her. Very pleased with our experience! Aaron is outstanding! Bought a second bike a few days later and Aiden was outstanding!
Always great to walk into a locally owned operation with knowledgeable staff present. I came in and found what I was looking for, but the supply chain has really knocked bicycle shops for a loop. Lots of bikes on the floor waiting for service, and not so many for sale unfortunately. The pandemic has really affected the recreation and fitness industries in more ways than one!
Brennen was "Exceptional"...quickly had to come in and pick-up a chain for my Trek. John Kibodeaux, is the owner...if you ever need the excellence of experienced professionals..., "You'll find it at High Desert Bicycles" 5~++Stars for your Review! Thank you for assisting me. Much Love and I hope for the "Best" 4 Your Business. Exceptional!!
These guys are good. They consistently do great work with the bike and take the time to discuss options and alternatives. If you're looking for new components or one-and-done bike repair, these are the guys. I've been disappointed with some of the other shops in town, but very satisfied with the repairs and service from High Desert.
Great bike shop staffed with friendly and knowledgeable bike experts. I visit a friend in Albuquerque a few times each year, and we always take the bikes here for tuneups and miscellaneous supplies. Stellar service! This location is bike-path accessible, so it's good to know about if you get a flat or your chain breaks.
Great service. I went in and told them I was thinking about buying a new bike because my current one (a Trek cruiser) wasn't working out. I spoke with two employees who actually suggested I bring mine in for a tune up before spending a fortune. They were right - they fixed a bunch of stuff on it and it's perfect now!
Will NEVER go into this so called bicycle repair shop unless I want to be belittled again. If you own a Huffy (old school) " Department Store" bicycle that is in need of minor repair or replacement parts, you came to the right place to be belittled! One Star is the lowest available score ...would have given ZERO!
I bought my first road bike from them and they were very helpful without being pushy. I picked it up today and Marco was very thorough and patient, making sure I had what I needed and was comfortable with my bike and my choices before leaving. He even rode with me to make sure I was confident enough and safe.
I’ve lost most of the function in my left arm, the team at High Desert converted my 12-speed bike over to a right handed shift lever AND brakes, not only that, it works flawlessly as my daily commuter. I can’t say enough good things about their ingenuity and quality of work. Thanks High Desert!
I don't even know why I gave u guys one star. I brought my bike to do service on it, but they kept my bike for two weeks. After I paid 80$ my bike was in the same condition. The gear was not shifting right, my disc brakes still make some noise. I will never go back to this store ever again.
Quite rude when I went there looking for a bike lock core. They kept me on hold for 15 min and hung up on me then when I drove there the guy said he will sell me a lock but if it doesn't work then it's on me and there are no returns. Non existent customer service. Won't return.
I asked if they had any protective wear for children and the gentlemen responded in a very condescending tone " no this store is for adults." Not one bit helpful or concerned about helping me and my child. The funny thing is my father in law bought my child's bike there.
I walked in and was told no shoppers allowed today, when there were literally other people inside looking around. I'm like "then why you guys open?" And he said he didn't have time to explain. I felt discriminated against and I will tell everyone I know not to come here.
My last visit to this store I was Ignored by the person behind the computer at the service counter, and treated like a child by the 'technician'. I am looking forward to Fat Tire opening the westside store. Their service people are always friendly and helpful.
Ben was very helpful when I went to pick up my bike. I had my back tire fixed. He helped adjust my seat, helped me set up a water holder and answered all my questions. In the future if I need bike accessories I will most definitely shop there and ask for Ben!
Great service they helped me pick out exactly what I needed at an affordable price will definitely come back for parts. I would recommend double checking your parts to make sure they were put on properly tough cause on my way home my front tire came off
Great place. The employees make this business outstanding. They were all super helpful and nice. Kelly and Asher were a huge help as well as the other guys we worked with. Can’t recommend this place enough! Thanks for all the help with our bikes! …
Always a wonderful experience here! Josh always makes me feel like family: ) These guys are always very helpful & informative: ) Thank you Kelly for cleaning up my Daughter's bike! It looks much better & rides smooth:) Always leave here happy:)
HDB is where I go for most of my MTB accessories and supplies. Helmets, shoes, jerseys they got it all. Vince and Ben treated me like a pro. They never tried to push the high end stuff. Support your local shops! Best shop in town in my opinion!
Went in with a loose disk brake rotor that I couldn't tighten myself, and the awesome mechanics there fixed it up for me in less than 5 minutes, free of charge. They definitely earned my future dollar for any bike repairs beyond what I can do!
What a great bike shop! The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. I had my bike serviced there (routine maintenance) and they did a great job. I was really happy with the whole experience. I will definitely be a repeat customer!!!
I have used this shop for several years and have bought 2 bikes from them. I scheduled a maintenance that was over a month out. I was told to bring the bike in a day before my appointment so it could be assessed and work be completed. I
Walked in for a brake repair, they said it would take a week. I said that wouldn't work for my schedule, and asked if they had the replacement part, so I could do it myself. They looked around for front brake lever, but only had a rear.
Outstanding facility with excellent service, the staff very helpful. My 30+ year Cannonadale H200 has over 4,000 miles and final replace the freewheel cassette and crankset etc. and now rides so smooth thru its gears. Very happy rider!
Their customer service is fantastic! Silas was very helpful and friendly and not only took care of the issue with our bike but also made some suggestions for future purchases. THIS SHOULD BE THE ONLY PLACE YOU GO FOR YOUR BIKE NEEDS.
Every time I go to this store for parts or gear, every single one of these guys are super helpful. Super knowledgeable, friendly and always go out of thier way to help. This is the only place I shop for my mountain bike needs.
Had a chain put. On here,,broke second time riding the bike, also bought tires and tubes, tube had at least 10 holes in it...i wouldn't take a little red wagon to get fixed here...one star rating is too good for this place
I am glad to see Randy working here. Randy is an honest bike mechanic. I gave them my MTB for a tuneup and they did a good job. Plan to take them my road bike for a major upgrade and anticipate the continued good service.
Walked in, ready to buy two bikes, and possibly four, not a single person said hello. I was not certain of what I was looking for, but I was certain about making a purchase. Not impressed. Certainly lost my business.
Wonderful customer service. I came in to get my bike tuned up and asked for quick turnaround time. They accommodated me and answered all my questions! Would definitely go back and recommend to friends!
I was greeted and quickly given attention. Friendly, informative and thorough. Even though they were jammed, they took all the time I needed to get my problem resolved. I am glad I went there.
I absolutely love this place I've been to several bike shops in Albuquerque and this is definitely my go to spot . Awesome guys and have always had what I was looking for. Highly recommend.
Always going the extra mile to make every experience the best possible one. Would recommend High Desert to everywhere. Always honest giving you the most honest advice for your needs. Super!
Came in from out of town with a flat. They took my bike in immediately and fixed it in about ten minutes. Knew what they were doing and everyone was kind and friendly. Highly recommend
Super helpful, diagnosed and fixed a brake bleed issue and replaced a broken spoke at the last minute to keep our vacation on track... one of the best shops we’ve ever visited!
These guys will help you find the right bike, and won't just sell you anything to make a sale. They are knowledgeable and friendly. This is my preferred High Desert location!
Customer service was great. Asher was the one that helped me through the process and helped me make a sound decision on what bike to get after three or four annoying visits.
Every bike i had bought parts they just keep breaking buying new parts everyweek epsecial being the wtp its supose to be the one of the best bikes but it just keep breaking
I went in a couple weeks ago for bike shorts and didn't find a huge selection, but did find great customer service. I plan on taking the bikes to them for fall tune-ups.
These guys rock! I brought in my daughter's bike which had a brake issue. Vince fixed it on the spot so I didn't have to come back for it. Outstanding guys, thank you!
I was so impressed with the young men working here. Theirlevel of customer service was superb. The prices so reasonable. I will be going back for all my bike needs!
Haven't been in this store for quite some time. Went today and it really has changed inside. Great service, large selection, and friendly personnel. I will be back.
Just to let the cycling community know that I bought a nice Specialized Allez road bike March 27, 2019...great sevice, great price, excellent advice! I'll be back!
Always a good experience, never push you into a more expensive product you can't afford. They always answer questions regardless of the amount. Great local shop
This is a great shop. Ben was a really helpful dude and really knowledgeable. They just make sure you’re taken care of. Will be a returning customer. …
No veteran discount. No law enforcement discount. My wife takes her bike there regularly took it back for something minor they asked for 5.00 more. Never again
Nice staff, always responsive and knowledgeable. I had a repair done in 10 minutes and the price was maybe too low. They give lots of great advice and tips.
Been going there for awhile. Never an issue. Always reasonable and solid work. I always recommend them to other cyclists. Best place in town!
We have purchased four bikes from High Desert. Both locations are great, staff is friendly and helpful, quality bikes and repair services.
These guys are so helpful and friendly. We have had a good experience every time. I wish we had a good bike shop in Rio Rancho.
Great service! These guys know what they are doing! They always have a positive and friendly attitude! These guys are awesome!
My experience with High Desert Bicycles was excellent! Great customer service and price! My go to bike shop from now on!
Staff was very helpful, polite and courteous even though I didn't make a purchase.but I will definitely be returning.
Just bought a bike from High Desert. The service was awesome. Spent some time talking with sales rep. Super nice guy.
These guys are not perfect but awesome! There was a mistake made and they totally owned up to it and made it right!
They've serviced our B.O.B. stroller. Great service here from the shop and staff. Friendly and attentive.
Very knowledgeable and helpful with our first "adult" bike purchase. Thank you so much we love them!
Amazing service! Ben answered all of my questions and even answered questions I didn't know I had!
Staff is super helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. Go there for all my bike needs, also far prices.
