Yeah, CoVid has affected us all. Sadly, REI seems to be one of the strictest businesses and this REI is no exception. The state of NM is a weird one and this location seems almost overstaffed for a change. I would give them 5 stars except for the fact that I don't like such germaphobic behavior and that while I'm there with my kids, they seem to be breathing over my shoulder, which makes me uneasy. On the other hand, I've been there when kids are unmasked and coughing profusely with a very wet, sick, sounding cough, and they've done nothing. Why the double-standard, REI? Is it all for show? But, this is a positive review, so let me get to it. I had had some very poor customer service experiences locally on this day, but this one, at REI, actually proved to be quite good. I had a convoluted return, most items were unworn, but one was, I had used my 20% off coupon on one of the items and usually, when I bring it back and reorder something else from the register, they will give me the discount again. The employee, Eric, at first, was reluctant to give it to me, but eventually realized my request was legit and I got the new item ordered. He was very pleasant, kept thanking me for my patience and it turned out to be one of the better experiences I've had with customer service here in Albuquerque, as of late. Thanks Eric! Keep offering the stellar return policy, REI, and I'll keep shopping from you!
Update 10/5/22: I have continued to shop here and service has been exceptional except for that one experience listed below. Updated from 2 to 4 stars to account for the mostly consistent customer service. Staff is very nice and helpful, but one of the managers is rude and doesn't follow policy. Went in to get a price adjustment per REI's policy for an in-store purchase and was told they could not do it since the item was now clearance. I was within the 14 day window, bought at full price, and with the item being 30% off now. I asked why I couldn't get the price adjustment if I could just return and re-purchase the item within those same polices and he guilt tripped me into not doing so saying "it is not in the spirit of our return policy" and what not -- he was very uppity and disingenuous -- I didn't want to use that method anyways if I could help it. I called customer service and they did the price adjustment with no problem within a couple minutes. The only problem? They only offer gift cards online instead of the original payment method. The manager (7/20/2022 @ 6:00pm MST) has placed a very sour taste in my mouth for REI.
I was browsing REI for some trinkets and gadgets when I came upon the used shoe section. I had no idea that REI sold used shoes, but apparently they do. I was absolutely horrified to see the condition of some of the shoes that they were selling. Many of them were totally worn out and dirty. I thought to myself that they must be super cheap to compensate for the despicable condition, but alas I was wrong. The shoes were severely overpriced. For example, see photo showing a raggedy, filthy, stinky pair of black shoes. There was literally a DEAD MOTH in the laces!! And they cost $72!! REI.... You couldn't PAY ME $72 to wear these pieces of garbage on my feet. (Maybe for $1000 I'd wear them) I was extremely disappointed that REI would consider this fair and just. These black shoes were just one of countless examples of degraded, worn out filthy, overpriced used shoes. I considered going to speak to a manager on the spot as I was outraged. I can no longer support REI due to their despicable used shoe collection.
Sales associate Bella and another female sales associate (didn’t catch her name) were so unprofessional and rude to my husband when he walked into the store simply because he was in his police uniform (11/29/2021). We have shopped at this location before and have had amazing customer service but the day he happens to go in in his uniform they refuse to acknowledge him while everyone else received normal treatment. I myself work in customer service and I treat all of my customers with the same care and respect whether I “like”/agree with them or not, all personal feelings set aside. If I’m able to treat my customers like humans, I feel like they should be able to do the same. If they don’t welcome law enforcement they should state it at the front door. I’m disappointed in the company and will no longer be shopping here.
I needed a pair of nonslip spikes to put on my boots. This store didn't have the size I needed so I attempted to have the store order a pair. I was told they wouldn't arrive until April 11. Today is March 23. Too late as I am RVing and will be moving April 5. It was an hours drive to get to this store. I was told I could pay for expedited shipping. I think the item was already overpriced without adding expedited shipping. I also had called about purchasing a sled. I was told they had one that was 6 ft tall for $69. It was a cheap piece of plastic and I doubt that it was even 5 ft. I called the REI in Santa Fe and they had the non-slip spikes I needed. It seems anymore REI is just a store with geewiz gadgets, and the clothing for women is not practical for outdoor adventure. REI used to be great.
I am writing a review specifically because a staff member named Steel really helped me out today by volunteering to inspect a Big Agnes 1-person backpacking tent I picked out at the garage sale section. I was walking around the store with it and they asked me what I'd found and offered to open it up and check it out before I bought it. They took everything out and inspected all the zippers, lining and stakes and gave me advice on how to clean it since it looked pretty dusty. I truly appreciate it because all sales are final on garage sale stuff. I have been searching for a 1-person UL tent in the garage sale for months!! 10/10 for customer service.
This location is awesome. Due to the COVID-19 jazz going on, they are a bit low of stock on certain items in the store, but online orders arrive for pickup very quickly. Within the last four months, I've shopped in store twice, and I've also had items shipped to this location for pick up twice. Every associate I interacted with was extremely polite, knowledgeable, and very social. They truly are doing the best they can to provide a great customer experience, and follow all of the protocols for our current situation. The store is clean and well organized, and there are still enough goodies to stop in and dream shop for future expeditions.
I had an issue with a promo that wasn't working. I told a team member, they grabbed a manager and I explained. The manager heard me out and fixed it on the spot. The customer service speaks to a great leadership team in this store. Edit:. Dropped in again looking for a watch. They're out of stock, but the older gentleman who helped us was very friendly. Edit:. Dropped in looking for a specific travel back pack. They didn't have what I wanted, but people helped me check out similar options. Great as always.
For a place that says that they’re an outdoor store, they don’t have much in the way of extreme cold gear. I went in looking for a parka because I work in really cold weather (sometimes -15°) and the only thing they had was a light Patagonia puffer. I ended up going online and getting a North Face McMurdo from another vendor. Yet another sale that they lost because they don’t carry the right gear. Such a disappointment. I will not be going back.
The door greeter was unhelpful and very shocking to see so close to the door, the employees seemed to be aimlessly stocking and the selection wasn’t very good. A lot of the bags and clothing was really expensive and hard to try on because of the placement of the security devices on them. The area near the front was kind of cluttered. Some employee kept trying to give me their mixtape about victorian child diseases. Mixtape was alright 7/10.
Every time I go into this REI with questions I come out with answers to my questions and to questions I didn’t know I had. The employees here are friendly, knowledgeable and go above and beyond to help make you feel comfortable in your adventures. I feel confident going into my first backpacking trip because of my visits to this store! CJ in particular was extremely helpful and made my planning for my trip a lot less scary!
REI is always great. The employees at this store are super helpful and friendly. Went here to help my girlfriend buy a backpack and they really made sure that she got one that fit perfectly and that she would be happy with. I also love that I can get to this location on my bike by taking the North Diversion Channel Trail. Super easy and chill bike ride. Thanks to REI for putting it in such an accessible location.
I bought a Thule basket for my roof rack. While I was able to put the basket together, I have to admit installing it on the roof rack was beyond me. I asked for help at the service desk and met Cody. He is my hero - he installed it right then and was so nice and professional. I can't say enough about his helpfulness, other than "give him a raise, REI!" : ) This is one reason why I love REI - great team members.
The store is great but what really stood out to me, was the amazing customer service. Dang, the employees there are beyond helpful, they are knowledgeable and very polite! They were also very nice about my service dog, no trouble and they didn't distract her and that means a lot to me because she was on duty and I hate to have her bothered while in public. They made my shopping experience wonderful.
I bought snowboard boots from an online shop and was having issues with the heel grip giving me blisters. I brought them into REI and they gave me wedge inserts and made sure they felt comfortable before I left the store. I needed a quick fix since I was leaving the next day for Purgatory, and because of the help from the employees I had an amazing experience on the mountain! Thank you!
never order online from this store. they use Lonestar Overnight which is a notorious scam shipping company, taking weeks to get you your product if they don't steal it. Actually crazy REI uses them as big as REI is. Don't support these practices, look up lonestar overnight on trustpilot. hopefully it won't take another week and a half to get a refund for the shoes REI's shipping stole.
Everyone here is so helpful and kind! I was buying a gift for a rock climber and I had *no idea* what I was even looking for. I had three different employees help me with everything from chalk bags to lotion/balm to clips! On a different trip, I had an employee help me find proper hiking boots and was so patient with me while I tried a bunch of different boots and shoes on!
Stopped by here to shop for a sleeping bag, while traveling from out of town. The rep was very knowledgeable even though he was new hire. Went above and beyond to meet my needs and patiently answered my questions. He also sized me for a backpack. Overall didn’t feel pushed, except by the senior rep who was also assisting us. The clothing section rep was also very helpful.
Wide selection of high quality outdoor gear. Items tend to be pricy, but frequently go on sale. Even at full price, you get your money's worth - I'd rather pay once for a sturdy peice if gear than buy something cheap and have it break in the field. Staff is extremely helpful and offer good recommendations regarding pros and cons of different items.
This is a fantastic place for most if not all your outdoor needs. Went in today for running shoes and spent way too much time looking at lots of things I don't need. Bought a pair of Hoka One's. Very nice shoes. Their membership is a sweet deal with lots of perks. If you're the outdoorsy type then definitely stop in and check it out.
Love to stop at REI when we are traveling as we don’t have one near where we live. This store had the BEST clearance/return section. The biggest selection of return merchandise I’ve ever seen to be honest. We purchased with 4 pairs of clearance/return shoes. Staff were all friendly and helpful as usual. Keep up the good work REI!
This REI is AWESOME. What really makes this REI so special to me is the staff. Everyone is extremely helpful and kind. But I could not be more thankful for Carly, the LOVELY person who helped me with everything I could possibly think of. She went above and beyond to help me find exactly what I needed. She’s the best!!!
Wayne in shoes quite literally changed my wife’s life. Turned out she had been wearing the wrong shoe size for decades and it wasn’t until Wayne measured her feet and told her to size up (two sizes!) that she understood her real shoe size. Absolute legend. Can’t recommend enough, she is now hiking without any pain.
REI is always a great experience, especially now during Covid. The people are always helpful and friendly. I went in to pick up an item I ordered online but decided to look around a bit. all the employees and customers are practicing safe covid procedures so it makes me comfortable to walk around in the store
Although there was a problems with my skis that I was unaware of, they told me about what had happened in the past and corrected it. Edgar was extraordinarily helpful, and took very good care of the situation. Pleasant, honest, terrific service. We have always had great experiences at REI. Thank you.
I presented to Crystal at the register with a unique situation. She was patient and able to meet all my needs! I’ll definitely be back to shop! Thank you Crystal and REI. *Update: Monty and Matt in the bike section were very helpful with providing info on my wife’s electric bike. Thanks again team!!!
My favorite outdoor gear store. Their associates are always helpful. It may be a little more expensive than other places but you get what you pay for when it involves outdoor recreation gear. Did I mention you can bring your doggies in with you? Everybody loves dogs here.
I like REI. I almost don't feel safe going there though. They are near the freeway and get a lot of exposure to "bums" who go there to shoplift. At any given time there will be an altercation that staff is consistantly at a loss as to how to manage. Best is to shop online.
REI is helpful for quality sporting goods. It is expensive so if you're looking for affordable this isn't the place. I do always appreciate their knowledge and wide range of quality items along with the ability to try on items to ensure they will work for my needs.
Outdoor gear geek paradise! REI can be pricey, but everything is top quality-- extremely important if you're relying on something while camping, hiking, skiing, biking, etc. Be sure to join the co-op. The annual dividend can be a nice amount of store credit.
Rex Engles International is one of my favorite law firms! They helped me emancipate myself from gravity. Now that I am free of this quantum mechanically dubious reality I am hoping they can help me with my inspirational oxygen affliction. Highly recommend!
I love REI and have been a member for a few years, but every time I shop here, I am followed around and made to feel very unwelcome. Staff greet me at every corner, but before I can respond, they are scanning my hands and pockets with their
I have only good things to say about this store. Their return/exchange policy is hands down THE BEST. I have never had any problems returning anything and have always been greatly satisfied with the quality of their products. The yearly
Used to love coming to REI, now when you show up everything is completely locked up to where you can't even look at the back of boxes without pulling the shelves apart, people are walking around the store monitoring everybody's mask
Staff was super helpful but not overbearing. Greeted with a smile as soon as I walked through the door. The store was clean and had plenty of stock and choices of merchandise. I will return to this location for all my outdoor needs.
Great customer service but selection was not big it's like someone went and bought everything lots off empty shelves. Looking for back packing bags and bikes. Low selection. Not impressed. Needs to do a better job inventory wise.
Knowledgeable staff! Equipment stocked is great both in function and quality. Staff members actively engage you in answering your questions and yet give you space to discuss with significant other, children or companions.
REI fulfills that desire to be in a clean, organized, two-to-three dollar sign place that whispers to me about my totally realistic future as a kickass outdoorswoman. I love this place and will absolutely be coming back.
Customer service took a huge nose dive lately, it's like people run away from you instead of offering help. Not the REI I'm used to. You spend $700 and no one can bother to help or offer advice? Disappointed.
Really large selection in Albuquerque with the friendliest staff that you could ask for. If you have any questions about camping that the Internet can't help you with, then this place is a good second
Web site is terribly inaccurate. Says items in stock - they are not. Tried to buy a spare tire for a bike purchased from them - advised "they cannot order?"??? Customer service is not what I expected.
Love this place! Employees are always helpful, and I like the gear guarantees; if I'm spending the money on a major recreational purchase, it's good to know that the store backs my purchase.
One of the best places ever. They saved my bacon...I forgot my charging cable for my Garmin watch and they let me borrow one from the back to get a charge. Super helpful and friendly staff.
REI is a fantastic outdoors store! They have everything. The staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and eager to help you find what you're looking for. Co-op members get great benefits.
Love the store, it's membership and it's policies, but hate the new zig-zag layout, makes it really hard to find things as half the aisle you are looking at is hidden from any one side.
Thank you Wayne for helping me pick out the perfect hiking boots and teaching me how to tie them properly! I didn't even know that my left foot is a whole size smaller than my right!
REI has a fare amount to choose from however their prices are much higher than other local stores. They may have items in stock but if its available in your size that's a hit n miss.
Staff is helpful and prompt without being smothering, seem genuinely interested in hiking, camping, etc. Co-op company structure (whether it be worker or consumer) is always a plus.
Went to browse for shoes for my trip to Europe. Wayne was AMAZING and has so much knowledge about the type of shoe to wear. By far the best shoe shopping experience ever.
At or over retail on nearly every product. Scammed buyers that previously bought items with a “lifetime warranty” then reneged on their promise. Inexcusable behavior.
Doesn't allow dogs. Not a fan. Road was horrible just getting to the parking lot. If my dog ain't allowed, I might as well save money buy what I need off Amazon.
Monty (I hope I'm spelling it right) was the most helpful human I could ask for. He went above and beyond to help me out! Love this store overall too :)
This location sells everything you are looking for no matter the level of outdoor activity. From beginner level hiking to the month long camping trip.
Second time coming to the store first time buying anything workers were super super nice!! A really nice lady, Polly was amazing and very helpful.
Needed a pair of shoes. Plenty of selection in stock and got exactly what I wanted. Thank you Abel for your help. You were great!
I love REI, very high quality products. I the recent years the REI made products quality and designs had I proved significantly.
Best selection of premium outdoor sports gear. Member prices during sales is reasonable. Quality and service is outstanding.
This is one of my favorite locations in the country. Very friendly and helpful staff. The location is an oasis here in NM.
Still holds its core values of customer service and quality assurance that is lacking in today’s shopping environment.
Large store with kind staff, biggest collection for garage section I’ve seen in all of US, great deals.
Great customer service here. They helped me so much preparing for my next hiking adventure.
Incredibly diverse outdoor equipment. Infinitely patient boot salesperson.
I quickly was made to feel like I shouldn’t be there so I left.
Excellent products, return policy and rewards members program.
They have lots of stuff, but didn't have the size we needed
I love this store! The staff is friendly and helpful!
Best REI I’ve been to!! The people are so nice!
Great selection. High prices but quality gear
