After going there for a couple of years and being treated poorly a few times I won't be going back. It's the closest bikeshop to my house but I've now been going to High Desert which is farther away but well worth it because the people there treat me a lot better. Examples of mistreatment include: being completely ignored every time by the woman that works there, being berated by the owner (her brother) because I picked up my bike a few days after it was fixed (I had to practically beg him to not charge me a $100 storage fee), and being talked down to and corrected by the teenager that works there when he told me one day my bike would be fixed and it wasn't. In short, at Bikesmith, the customer is usually wrong and I did not feel valued. Petty and uptight don't make the best vibe.
We stopped in Albuquerque during our trip from Pennsylvania and wanted to ride at White Mesa Canyon about 45 minutes from ABQ. We found The Bikesmith online and reserved 3 mountain bikes for rental. The morning of our ride, we found the people there to be the most friendly and easy to work with of any other bike shop I have been to. The bikes worked very well and everything was just as we were told it would be in renting from them. Along with the rental The Bike Smith also included a bike rack so we could haul the bikes and helmets, we provided our own shoes :) The only shame is they are out there and not near me where I live. I highly recommend The Bike Smith to anyone, local or visiting, it was nice feeling like I was a long term customer while being in there for the first time.
Found the shop again, they used to be on Rio Grande in a small plaza. They closed the retail shop and moved here and I stumbled upon them again. I'm so incredibly glad I did. If you're looking for maintenance on your bike, advice on what to buy or parts , This is the place to go. The owner is very knowledgeable, very nice, and generally very accommodating just make sure to make an appointment. I had missed that part on the website and showed up on a Sunday on regular business hours and he's still quickly replaced my tube and fixed my tire. I'm very happy with their service and I'm so glad that I found them again. Pro tip, if you put their address into Google or Waze it's in the back of a collection of businesses.
I was turned off by my first experience with the bikesmith. I walked in today to see about locally buying a road bike rather than going the Amazon route and when I stepped thru the door the guy behind the counter never once looked up from his cell phone to greet me or acknowledge me. The other guy who was putting a bike back into the indoor racks gave me the same treatment even though we made eye contact when i walked in. After standing in the store for a full min, a few feet from the front desk, without being spoken to I left. I was the only customer in the store when i arrived so its not like they were busy helping other customers. What a disappointment after all the glowing reviews I read. Won't be going back!
My bike had been in storage so long that I didn't remember what it looked like, and wasn't sure it was worth getting into shape to ride. I was very pleasantly surprised with Gator's evaluation of the situation - the Bikesmith got it into top shape for a lot less than I had feared it would cost. They took their time explaining things to me and something I really appreciated was that they didn't use my ignorance against me at all: Gator made it very clear what I did not need, clearly avoiding the chance to upsell when he had the chance. That was so great. What else can I do but give them the highest possible recommendation?
These guys were amazing!! We were there for the Balloon Fiesta and they found a bike for me in spite of calling late. The day we picked it up, we found out about the Sonoma, CA fires where we live, which had us completely preoccupied so that I was unable to use the bike - I was too concerned with whether my house was still standing or not. On returning the bike, they comped the rental - in spite of my willingness to pay. Just amazing people..... Such integrity. Please give them your business!! These are the type of people that restore your faith in the human condition...... (BTW, house was OK - Phew....)
My husband and I were visiting our 3 year old grandson in Albuquerque and wanted to try the Bosque Trail. The folks at The Bike Smith set us up with a bike for my very tall husband, a comfy bike for me, and a carrier for our grandson. They took the time to insure the bikes and helmets were fitted well for all. They gave us maps and some tips and off we went. We rode to the Alameda crossing and had a picnic at the nice park on the river. This was a great experience in large part due to the great service and equipment provided by the folks at The BikeSmith. We will definitely rent from them again!
The bikesmith is a wonderful locally owned bike shop where gator estimates needs to be done for your bike I will send you a customized invoice and give you options as to what kind of services he thinks you need and what he recommend. They are pretty busy or at least when I took my bike there we are and it took about 5 days from a bike to come back it was a little more expensive than a commercial bike shop but I really appreciated the small bike shop feel and the fact that I could tell who worked on my bike and if I had a problem I felt confident that he would make things right.
I rented a road bike for the day. It was an aluminum frame with carbon forks, Fuji. I sent my bike fitting measurements ahead of time and requested certain pedals. They had it all set up for me when I got there. Very friendly people, loved the bike. They hooked me up with a local guy who was road testing a bike, he took me out on an awesome route. They said I could use the bike again the next morning at no extra cost. Unfortunately my schedule did not work out, but it is a great bonus to have that option. Great people, good bikes, awesome location for the Bosque Trail.
We are a senior snowbird couple who enjoy a nice ride for the exercise and to sightsee. We rented (4 hours) not only once from the BikeSmith, but again the following week. These folks were super great! They fitted us with great bikes for the Bosque Trail nearby, gave us a map, (we brought our own helmets, locks, and water), and even grabbed a third bike the first rental and took us down the road to the trailhead to be sure we got off to a good start. We would definitely, definitely rent from them again if we ever get back to ABQ. They know the meaning of Service!
Came from Florida and rented 2 mountain bikes for the first weekend in October 2013. Went to Jemez Springs (great place to ride!). The guys at the shop made it super easy by having everything we needed (we brought nothing with us) like a helmet, lock, kit bag with tubes, pump, etc. We rented a bike rack too that they put on and took off for us. The bikes we rented were the best I have ever rode. Shifting felt like a transmission. We did huge climbs and definitely got our moneys worth for all the hours we put on! We will be back to the Bike Smith again!
The customer service and work done here are EXCELLENT!!! After years of taking my bicycle to another shop, and never being happy with the treatment or work, my bike is finally working as it should always have been. I will not go to another bike shop from now on. Lots of attention and they will always take the time to explain the most minor details, even though I am not a totally experienced cyclist. They are courteous, knowledgeable and the work on my bike was beyond satisfactory. Thanks to Jesse, Richard and Ian for making my bike better than new.
The crew at Bikesmith is FIRST RATE! Rented a road bike from them for four days and when I found the size was wrong (bit small) after the first day they immediately built up a brand new bike, out of the box, to accommodate the rest of my Albuquerque Adventures. Equipment was reliable (took me from Rio Rancho to the Sandia summit and back in a day); and, again, the service second to none. You'll be stoked if you buy or rent from Bikesmith! Huge thanks to them for facilitating uber-fun!
Super happy for with my bike service from The BikeSmith. Took my bike in for a tune up, as well as just general check-up after buying it used a couple years ago and riding it regularly. Gator performed a thorough diagnostic, communicated clearly, and conducted honest business. I got some solid work done (tune up, drive chain replaced, spokes replaced, valves replaced, etc.). I took my bike on a ride and it was like riding a new bike! Smoothest ride I have had since owning it.
5-Star Service, plain and simple! Best experience I've had, bar none. I'm a visitor to ABQ and wanted to ride for a couple of afternoons while being on a Road Scholar trip. They provided good equipment, fit us professionally, gave us great trail ride options and directions. And, when we wanted to get a different saddle, they stayed open late to make the change. Then, they picked up our bikes at our hotel so we didn't have to bring them back. What more could you ask?
First came across The Bikesmith when we were looking to rent. After seeing how well the took care of their rental bikes, I decided to come back and have them do a tuneup on my bike once I bought one. I figured I would have to shell out $80 for a complete tuneup, but they examined it and were able to do all the necessary work for $72. $8 isn't a large amount of money, but I appreciated them taking the time to look things over and save me money where they could.
My newish e-bike developed a creak. It took more work than expected to get the job done, but Gator stuck with it and my bike is running as smooth and quiet as ever. I was very impressed with the work, the level of communication, and the final cost. A mechanic that you can trust is worth their weight in gold and I'll be using The BikeSmith, llc for as long as they'll have me as a customer. I am also looking forward to learning how to ride trails!
I've had some trouble getting my European two wheel wheelchair fixed in this town. Not so with Bikesmith! They took one look, determined they could fix it and gave me exactly what it needed; two fixed tires with sealant and puncture resistant inners. Jesse and Ross are courteous, the bikeshop is professional and has a great vibe. Bikesmith also delivers for a fee, which is a great service. The repair estimate was spot on. Thank you Bikesmith!!!
Rented mountial bikes from BikeSmith during a recent trip to Albuquerque and was pleasantly surprised they had Joe Breezer hardtails. The guys were awesome & professional. They were really concerned that we would have a great experience. Single track less than 1 mile from the shop. I would highly recommend them for bike repair & rentals. A great experience. My wife was in conferences for two days, and I rented a well-maintained hybrid for touring the area. The bike was in great shape, with a reliable lock and a brand new helmet. They let me pick up the day before since I was heading out very early, and they allowed me to leave the bike with the hotel when I had to catch an early cab to the airport. No games, no hassles. I would use them again without any hesitation.
We were in town for a meeting at ASRRT and the Ballon Fiesta. I took the opportunity to ride for a day. Ross was very helpful fitting the bike, instructing me on local bike paths and getting me on my way. Toured around Albuquerque for the day with ease although the altitude was evident to this individual from sea level Florida! We plan a return trip in June and will definitely do one of his organized rides. Thanks again Ross!
Had a great experience with the Bikesmith a few weeks ago. My wife and I rented 2 bikes for a couple days. Albuquerque is a very bike-friendly city with lots of options. We rented mountain bikes and enjoyed both the paved trails around town and the dirt trails east of the city. Used the local buses to get to our biking locations. If you go to ABQ, rent bikes at the Bikesmith and check out what the city has to offer.
This place is top shelf. They're pleasant, professional, knowledgeable, and honest. I brought in my long-neglected mountain bike for a tune-up and told Rick what I'd like done. He looked it over, told me it didn't need that much work, and then explained what did need to be done. The work was thorough and done sooner than the estimate. And, he saved me a lot of money by not selling me something I didn't need.
A very friendly and knowledgeable bike shop. I travel several times a year to cycle. I often bring my saddle and rent a bike. Gator ( the owner), was very attentive he had my bike ready. Put the peddles on adjusted my seat and helped me get ready to ride. They had good maps and were very well informed of cycling options in the area. I will use them again if I am back in Albuquerque. Ride on!
My road bike had been in storage for 2 years so I took it in to BikeSmith for a tuneup. My bike was looked at right away so I could receive a recommendation before I left. Turns out I just needed a few things, not a complete tune-up, and I appreciated that honesty. When I picked it up I was refitted at the suggestion of their staff and now my ride is even better. Awesome service!!
These guys provide an ideal bike rental experience. They give you a bike with everything you need including spare intertubes, and a helmet to get you where you technically want or need to go. On top of that, they're just really nice and will describe a route for you that gives you whatever you could want in a ride. I highly recommend the Bikesmith to anyone visiting Albuquerque.
This is a great shop: friendly and knowledgeable staff. They can do small things like tune ups and break bleeds, as well as more complicated jobs like wheel building and major fork service. They adjusted my suspension perfectly. Everything I've gotten done there has been great. Good fair prices and good mtb supplies, demo saddles and women's and men's clothing.
I've been going to The Bike Smith for about a year. Gator, Rose, and Ross are always friendly. I am particularly impressed with the quality of Gator's workmanship and the speed by which he returns my bicycles. I have also been impressed with their rental service the two times I rented a bike. I wholeheartedly recommend the Bike Smith for all your repairs.
Surprised my wife with the trip to visit our son during Day of the Tread bike ride. I contacted BikeSmith to rent her a bike and they could not have been more helpful and caring about her experience. Thank you so much for making a surprise trip a great trip with wonderful memories for her. Will always recommend and use when we visit. Thank you
This has become my go to place for anything bike related. Their prices are comparable with much larger retailers yet they have the customer service of a family run business that actually cares. I recently made the transition into riding mountain from only road and they have been a huge help with advice for both riding technique and equipment.
The Bikesmith provides excellent customer service and timely bike repairs. They have high quality rentals as well as great new bikes and accessories. I have been using this place for the last six months and they knew me by name after my first visit. Tucked away behind a bistro, it is worth making it your shop if you live in the area.
Love 'em and don't go anywhere else. They're knowledgeable, friendly and helpful-including the time I had a shifting cable go out while I was riding-limped along from the trail to the shop-and 30 minutes later was out and riding. (Although as I've said elsewhere-I still think they undercharged me for that) I highly recommend them!
By appointment only. We are visiting for the AIBF and apparently my valve stem was bad. The owner Gator was so helpful we were able to call and make an appointment right away. Courteous, professional, and reasonably priced. Just make sure you use Google Maps to get there and not Apple. we highly recommend this bike shop. …
This was one of the best bike shop experiences I've ever had. These guys treat you like you belong in the shop and are real ambassadors of ABQ riding. I was in town visiting for the weekend and they were incredibly welcoming. They took the time to get me set up on the right bike and show me the trails. I'll definitely be back!
Gator has been extremely helpful in both diagnosing issues, maintaining my bike, and general knowledge and tips to keep my bike rolling smooth. He can work on any bike and has a deep knowledge to help you fix even the most vintage of bikes. There's a ton of knowledge at this shop and it shows in their excellent work.
I highly recommend this bike shop. The staff (William) was beyond helpful in setting me up with a mountain bike rental. Helmet and tools included. The bike was awesome and albuquerque is a great place to ride. If you are there on vaca, you should make biking one of your activities and rent the bike here
Bikesmith was great. I renting a mountain bike for the White sands full moon ride. Gator and Rose put me on a 2015 bike that was awesome! The bike was high end and perfect for what i needed. Easy process to rent it and had all the equipment needed. I highly recommend the bikesmith for rentals !!!!!
This is a great bike shop. My wife and I rented two bikes for a week and we were completely satisfied with the condition and service. The bikes fit us perfectly and they were ready when we arrived. Also, ABQ and Santa Fe are great places to cycle. We are planning a return trip.
My wife and I took two visitors to Bikesmith and rented 4 bikes. The bikes were in excellent condition and the staff made sure that the helmets fit and the bike was adjusted correctly. We rode on a bike path near the store that goes long canal. All had a great time.
Rented a fantastic steel 29'er twice. Legit shop with legit rentals. No megalomart bikes here. The equipment is newer, the price was very good, and the staff bent-over backwards to make sure I knew the must-ride spots. I'll be back next time I'm in town.
The folks at Bikesmith are incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient! This place is what makes shopping at local businesses worthwhile! I won't shop anywhere else! Thanks to Gator & Co. for getting my jalopy road ready!
We rented the Breezer 29 hardtails and had 5 magical days biking the Sandias, the foothills and the trails around Santa Fe. These were perfect bikes for those trails and the reservations/rental procedures were quick and easy.
I've rented bikes from coast to coast. This shop knows how to get it done. Call ahead and they will prep your rental (rented a downhill bike full suspension) it's also next to a bistro winery and Starbucks. FTW!!!!
The people there are great, they help me get home, when my cable broke and the know-how oh what i needed to get hom thank you so much for all you do and take care of the customer's needs , a 10 rating. …
Picked up a Giant road ♀️ for the week! The bike was well maintained and the entire team was stellar! I am hopeful to see everyone at BikeSmith on my next trip to Albuquerque. Aloha …
Really fun experience. Staff goes above and beyone to make sure the bike is perfect for you. The bike path right outside of the shop is like nothing I've ever experienced. Awesome afternoon
OMGoodness! This is THE BEST bike shop!! These folks go above and beyond to help, give great tips, keep your bike top-shape, and tell awesome bike stories! A GREAT PLACE in Abq! GO!
The customer service and professional atmosphere is excellent. I would recommend tgis shop to anyone even if they had to travel a little ways to get there, it would be worth it.
This place is great... As soon as I called they were very friendly and Gator was very helpful! I always look for a place I can come back to. So far they have gained my business.
Not from here but learned quickly that thorns here are wicked. I humbly dragged by two bikes over for new tubes. Back on the ride very quickly, thank you Bikesmiths!!
I'm so thankful I found this place. I don't normally leave reviews but the 5 stars are well earned. Gator was kind, informative, and fast working. Highly recommend!
Just bought a great bike for my teenager she can use through hs and college. Our 4th from them. Always great to deal with Gator and his family and crew.
Customer service is impeccable. Those guys are real professional and super friendly. I can't imagine going anywhere else. 10/10 would ride again.
On my way through ALB and needed some tubes. Found The Bike Smith and they open earlier than other bike stores. Super-friendly and helpful!
Highly recommended. They had my bike ready, fully equipped and functional when I arrived. Great service and good bikes.

Great experience renting a Giant Trance from these guys when I was in town. Would definitely rent from them again.
Great bike maintenance class with Gator! Highly recommend bikesmith’s attention to detail and customer service!
The BikeSmith LLC totally saved friend Fred’s Bike MS ride today but fixing his damaged chain!! Thanks!!!
Great service. Help bring an older mountain bike back to life with a tune-up and a few new components.
Great people experienced staff took care of my bike like if it were their own!!!!
