Went to go buy three Schwalbe 20x1.5s for a 350 mile ride on the east coast and two Serfas 500 and some other small things for our two ICE trikes. Spent about 20 minutes asking questions (including about a softer seat—and he pulled out a standard bicycle seat—when we were talking about trikes!!) and when everything was on the counter I asked how much the tires were each. $59.95. I decided that I would look for a less expensive place. The guy stepped back and insulted me. I then said perhaps he should work on his bad breath. He then hurled insults, vulgarities and curse words at me after I took pictures of the items. I felt threatened and pointed the camera at him though I didn’t take a picture. He followed me out to my Jeep parked on the curb on Central continuing to hurl hate words at me I guess for wasting his time when there were absolutely no other customers in the shop. No words can express my feelings of what happened. I have never been called those things in my 62 years. One other guy from the shop watched from the doorway. Maybe he is the owner. Far cry from Charlie’s years ago when we lived here then. (Got the tire for $31 each through another venue.)

Website says this shop has used bikes, as well as a picture with captions saying they got a fresh shipment of Kona bikes. None of this is true, as I drive 11 miles to see bikes. The store has a pseudo gate keeper at the front door who won't allow you to see any of the bikes they list on the website, nor does he allow you to even enter without what I am assuming is the secret code. I visited four bike shops, all local before I came here, all allowed me entrance to at least see what I may want to spend my money on. Previous visits to this shop have always proved to be stressful, having to deal with bike snobs or total disregard by the employees, even after I purchase a 1400. 00 road bike. I hoped the pandemic and subsequent shutdown would instill some sense of humility, but obviously not. Too bad this shop was not one of the ones that went under..........

When I moved to ABQ I tried nearly every bike shop before I found two wheel drive! They are the best. - I've never had to make a appointment to drop off my bike. This shop is tiny but they always take your bike. - Quick repairs, every time. Usually less than a week. - Flexible and knowledgeable. If you can't afford to fix everything right away they have a solution to get you out the door until you can afford the repair. -They have never told me they don't make a part anymore or can't fix it. -We have brought about 6 different bikes here now! The last two are old ones I am giving to a friend so him and his kids can get into biking. Brian has been great communicating all the repairs needed and ones that can wait. Brian has been a huge help to me and my wife. Good dude, good mechanic. I would say the nearly 5.0 rating here is pretty accurate.

Dropped my bike off over a week ago saying part would take 2-3 days to come in then have it ready in a week. Got a call from a rude associate saying my frame was cracked which was just paint flakes after I sanded it off and showed them. In response the associate says in an unprofessional lack of integrity tone “ well man it needs a lot of work” and pointed to other paint chips. My response was yes it needs work, hence me dropping it off at a bike shop for repairs! Seems like they pick and choose what they want to work on. Five employees and almost two weeks later it was two big of a project. All I ask for was to put a de-railer and adjust the break and balance the wheels! Seems like I wasn’t hipster enough! Thank you two wheel drive for your enthusiasm and wasting my time!!!

I love how helpful they are here, even when they were confronted by my 30 year old crank that turned out to have a bolt pattern that just doesn't exist. Seriously, even though this bolt pattern isn't on their chart, or on Sheldon Brown's comprehensive chart of bolt patterns, they still spent quite some time trying to hunt down a chainring they could sell me that would fit it. Their boneyard is also second to none. I rarely buy brand new expensive parts any more, as I can likely find new old stock versions of what I need to keep my classic bike in perfect working order. I also recently picked up some sweet all metal pedals for my gas bike here in the boneyard for an incredible $5. I LOVE two wheel drive, and it doesn't hurt that they're only about two blocks from my house.

I went there on 6-3-23 with a flat tire in hand. I don't have names but a dark-haired guy took it and claimed they were REAL busy in the back that it would take half an hour and he would call me. (I didn't see anyone busy) I came back in a half hour (no call) and seeing at least 3 employees walking around, not working I inquired about my tire, turns out it was still sitting in the corner, FLAT. When learning of it a blonde guy took it and in no time at all had it fixed. The dark-haired guy was just walking around, NOT busy at all, doing nothing and just ignoring my tire. So, no stars to Dark-haired guy- 5 stars to the blonde guy- and 2 stars to the shop for having someone so uncaring working there. AND if he's management it's even worse

I'm not usually one to write reviews, but I had such a nice experience here that I thought I should. I haven't been on a bike in about 8 years, barely even remembered how to ride one, but these guys helped me find a bike that fit me (out of a great selection of new and used bikes), helmet, lock, etc. Even taught me how to shift! I saw a review here saying Two Wheel Drive was snobby, but that seriously isn't the case at all. They were incredibly nice and helpful, even to someone that knows absolutely nothing about bikes. It was a great experience, and I love my bike, and I even get a free tuneup in a month! James helped me out, and he was great. Highly recommend!

with a lot of competition in albuquerque, this shop has a surprising snob service attitude that prompted me to buy my bike elsewhere. i was not greeted when looking through the store and when i finally asked for some help the "help" was just too busy to assist me. unfortunately this was the 2nd time this happened to me at this particular store and was hoping this time would have been different, especially since i was ready to buy my dream high end bianchi road bike. these guys were just too cool to sell a bike to me. the cliche bike snob attitude is a gamble these days when shops are closing down left and right, so just be careful, 2 wheeldrive.

HATS OFF TO TWO WHEEL DRIVE!! They listen to each person's needs and work to provide a solution tailored to that person. When I began shopping for a commuter bike, after 40 years (!) away from cycling, I visited most of the shops in Albuquerque. After my 2nd visit to Two Wheel Drive, they were greeting me by name. It is that level of personalization that helped me decide to make my purchase from them. And they haven't let me down since. The knowledge and attention to detail of all the staff at Two Wheel Drive is second to none. The relaxed atmosphere adds to the feeling that the primary goal is to please customers rather than make a quick sale.

Interesting selection, had more for bike touring/utility than any shop I've been to(had yet to even see a touring bike in a shop till today they had one hanging from the ceiling). I really liked their display with all the cut tires that show's how they are fabricated with the different protection layers. Had free maps of Albuquerque bike routes. Which was definitely useful since I'm visiting. It's a good tool since google maps doesn't show all the bike friendly routes. I used the map to get myself up to a mountain today as well, so I can say I've officially mountain biked now :)

Came in for some new tubes and other things. Asked them to tighten up my loose kickstand. When I came to pick up my bike, they handed me my kickstand and said it was the wrong size, so they removed it. Why didn't they just call me and ask if I wanted a correct kickstand? why did they remove the somewhat working kickstand? very strange. Everything else seems to work great though, quick turnaround time and reasonable prices. Edit: The owner contacted me, explained, and apologized for the lack of communication. Clearly a business that cares about their customers.

I’ve been here twice first time was at the beginning of Covid and when I walk in the store I was told I wasn’t even allowed to be in there and I needed to get Out of the store immediately. I left and didn’t come back. Second time I came with my son to buy a bike. The attendant brought out a bike for me that I really liked and I wanted to buy. Then went inside with my card and came back said they couldn’t sell me that one. Brought out a cheaper bike and tried to sell me that one instead. I just took my card and left I’ve had enough with this place.

Great local shop! I am very new to the higher end bike scene. I reached out and they actually returned my emails with timely responses! This lead to me coming in to the store that day and purchasing a new KONA mountain bike. I never felt like they were taking advantage of my lack of knowedge and they answered all of my questions, never made me feel like I didnt belong. They also put slime in the tire for me, which saved my bacon out on the trail the other day. I appreciate the service and look forward to doing more business with them.

I would like to share the outstanding customer service I recently received from William. William helped me with a seat post for an older vintage bike frame. Other bike shops were somewhat dismissive of my pursuit of the unique seat post, while William did not hesitate to search their used parts collection and offered several alternative suggestions. William combines an extensive bike background and knowledge, along with a real passion for bicycles. I plan to bring all of my future business to Two wheel Drive. Thanks again.

  • Nina !

I went in looking for recumbent information and to see if they had some 2 wheel remcumbents. They checked the back and had one used 2 wheel recumbent for sale. It was nice (I'd never rode a recumbent before) and they let me test it. They also told me of some other brands to check out and research. I found another one that needed some work. While they were a little sad that I didn't get the one there, they were happy to help me with the issues I showed them. The tune up price is reasonable! (Photo is not their shop)

I knew I was taking a risk riding my thinnish-tired bike on the Bosque dirt trails...but it was so so so fun for the 2.6 miles it lasted before I got a flat. ((insert sad trombone noise here)). Kelly and the folks at Two Wheel Drive had me equipped with a new tube, tire sealant, and I ready to go in under 20 minutes! I picked up other supplies to help ward off those tire-maiming demonic goat's heads in the future. Thanks TWD!

  • Teresa Portone

Simply a great bike shop. Very friendly and helpful. I went to them for all my bicycle needs while I was in ABQ for a few months. My bike was my main form of transportation, and they always took that into account. When I moved away, they packed my bike for me and helped me out with having it shipped out of the store. IMO their prices are fair. If I move back to Albuquerque they will definitely be my LBS of choice.

  • Anne Minard

Whoever's stocking the bikes at this shop is doing a phenomenal job! Great range and high quality. I stopped in today to test-ride some bikes, and I've fallen in love with a Salsa touring bike. I wanted to sleep on the purchase, which meant getting online to check the bike's specs and the shop's reviews. Glad to see my positive experience today is shared by others. Now I won't hesitate to commit!

  • Chris's Flicks

Terrible people with sky high prices. They charged me 400 dollars for rims and a bike seat , I pick up my bike it's got scratches all over , they left it in the sun and it's all faded. Then I ask them for my original Tires and Bike Seat back , they don't have it anymore for some reason and refuse to give me my original parts back . Very shady business practices buyer beware.

  • R S

I visited the shop to get some information on a craigslist find and was blown away by the service and knowledge that these guys provided. The shop seemed to be busy everytime I came by, but I was always promptly greeted and helped. They also encouraged me to learn by suggesting that I do the work myself, which I thought was pretty unique.

  • Joseph McCamish (Banjo Joe)

We stopped in looking for two gravel bikes as we were on our way west. The guy with the beard was very helpful and knowledgeable about bikes. He turned us on to the Kona brand and while they didn’t have our size in stock we did end up buying two Kona Roves in Flag the next day. Thanks man! We will be shopping here when we are near ABQ!

  • E.M.H.

I have been going to Two Wheel Drive for all of my biking needs for many moons now. I have always loved the wonderful service and affordable maintenance prices for my bicycles. They also carry a varied selection of different bicycles for sale as well. I trust my bicycle repairs and maintenance with the good folks at Two Wheel Drive.

  • Phillip Branscum

Drove here from Texas to check it out. Friendly staff and they had what I was looking for. The shops near me don't have much of a selection right now so have to drive 3 to 5 hours or order online. I prefer to go to a shop and this place will get more of my business even if it does take all day to make the trip there and back.

  • David McIver

I have been going to this bike shop for over 10 years. They are the best. They just worked on my new high racer recumbent. By the way: talk to Charlie at the store about recumbents and trikes the next time your hands go numb, your neck hurts or the seat on your regular bike takes revenge. Try one and you will be convinced.

  • Edgar Lopez

I went into Two Wheel Drive Bike Shop on 4001 Central Ave. NE at about 1:30pm on Saturday 11-28-23 and they fixed a problem with my Handle Bars Immediately. I thought I was going to leave the bike with them for a day or two, but No; they fixed the problem immediately and didn’t even charge me for fixing the Problem.

  • t steg

This shop is great. Really good service and very helpful. They don’t just carry one big brand and try and push it on everyone like most bike stores. This shop has a wide variety of different style bikes including e-bikes, touring bikes, and mountain. They offer lots of bike gear most shops do not.

  • Sonja Aliesch

Came here after a more nearby but far snottier bike shop said they had no locks for sale (??), and how glad I am for that — top spot in every way: fantastic cycles and peripherals, and extremely helpful, knowledgeable, friendly staff. You will be getting all my bikey money, Two Wheel Drive!

  • Stuart Wilkins

I had exceptional service here. I needed some basic bike repairs done, and they got it done in about 24 hours. I know I wasn’t first in line for maintenance, but since I had an easy fix they turned it around quickly. It was kind of them, and it won my business moving forward.

  • Timothy Martinez

Tried to charge almost 100 dollars for a seat and seat pole. Went to a different local shop, was only charged 53 for both and they cut the pole to correct size and installed seat. This place will way over charge you just because it's on central. Will never be back

  • Theodore Richgels

These people are snobs. They will turn you away if you bring in a “retail” bike. The two hipster employees I dealt with were very condescending, and seemed pretty happy to refuse me service. I guess 2-Wheel Drive doesn’t need business from regular people.

  • Jo Ann Habing

The best shop in town. They do so much for the community. They help Children and adults with disabilities get into the right bike for them. TWO WHEEL DRIVE you guys are amazing. So dedicated to what they do!!! Thank You!!!

  • urge x

I encountered some fairly incompetent staff here. Did not assemble the bike I bought correctly and were unable to tune it correctly either. I have not trusted this shop since buying my bike and getting one tune up.

  • Charles Henry

Just bought a Tug-a-bug trailer from this store. The service was fantastic, they installed the trailer very quickly, and clearly knew their stuff. I highly recommend this store for any of you bike related needs.

  • G MICHAEL

Today, 10-24-23 I took my New Belgium Brewing Bicycle in for new inner tube (29 x2.30 Tire). Front tire would not hold air. Since I carried the bike in, I had them install tube & fix.

  • Sunny Day
